For the Dell Pro Premium Collaboration Keyboard KB900, check battery status in Dell Display and Peripheral Manager (DPPM), or use the keyboard’s LED to identify low battery, charging, and a full charge. Charge it through its USB-C port. These instructions apply to the KB900; check the model printed on your keyboard or packaging if you are unsure whether it is the model called the Dell Pro 7.
Check the keyboard’s battery level
Use Dell Display and Peripheral Manager
Open Dell Display and Peripheral Manager and select the keyboard’s device information to view its battery status. Dell says DPPM displays battery status for wireless devices. If you do not have the app, a first-time connection may prompt you to download it; otherwise, look for it on the KB900 Drivers & Downloads page.
Read the keyboard’s LED
The LED signals battery conditions rather than displaying an exact percentage. Dell’s KB900 guide describes these indicators:
- Breathing amber: battery is at 5% or less.
- Breathing white: keyboard is charging.
- Steady white for 10 seconds: charging is complete; the light then turns off.
The amber indicator is a low-battery warning, not a way to check the remaining percentage precisely. Use DPPM for a software battery-status readout.

Charge the Dell Pro 7 keyboard
- Connect a USB-C charging cable to the keyboard’s USB-C port.
- Connect the other end to an available USB-C port on a desktop, laptop, or compatible mobile device.
- Look for the breathing white LED while it charges. A steady white LED for 10 seconds indicates a full charge, after which it switches off.
The KB900 package includes a USB-C-to-USB-C charging cable, so a new cable is not normally needed. Dell specifies that the cable is for charging only and does not support data transfer. The charging LED may illuminate even when the keyboard’s power switch is off. Dell recommends fully charging the battery before first use.
What Dell says about charging time and battery capacity
Dell’s February 2026 KB900 guide specifies a 3000 mAh rechargeable polymer lithium-ion battery. It claims that a one-minute charge provides more than one day of battery life, and that charging to 80% takes one hour with a 5V/3A USB-C adapter. These are Dell’s manufacturer specifications, not independent test results; charging time varies with the connected port and its rating.

For EU countries only, Dell specifies a charging-power range of 3.25 W minimum to 15 W maximum for maximum charging speed. This EU-specific guidance should not be applied as a universal requirement elsewhere.
If the keyboard is not working
Dell’s first troubleshooting steps are to ensure the battery is fully charged, then switch the keyboard off and back on. To help preserve battery life when you are finished using it, turn off its power switch.

Confirm the keyboard model
Dell’s guide for this device identifies it as the Dell Pro Premium Collaboration Keyboard – KB900, regulatory model KB900/UD2301. Dell’s manuals and documents page lists the guide, updated April 16, 2026. If your keyboard’s model label does not identify it as KB900, these model-specific LED and charging details may not apply.
