For the quickest official league-wide check, open NHL.com’s Projected lineups, starting goalies for today page. Find the game and team, then check the projected lines, goalie, and separate scratched, injured, or suspended labels. Because the page shows projections and can include unresolved decisions, check it again close to face-off if the player’s status matters.

Open NHL.com’s daily projected-lineup and starting-goalie report.

Find the game and the relevant team. Scan the projected forward lines, defense pairs, and goalie listing to see where the player is expected to fit.

Check the separate Scratched, Injured, and, when present, Suspended categories. NHL.com lists these separately; an injury note alone does not establish whether a player will dress.

Read the accompanying status paragraph for developments and any comments attributed to a coach. If it says the player is a “game-time decision” or that no decision has been made, availability remains unresolved in that report.

Revisit the report near face-off and look for a newer update. A projection can change, and the formal lineup-submission deadline does not guarantee that a public page will update at that exact time.

What “projected,” “scratched,” and “injured” mean
Projected lineup
A projected lineup is an expectation of who will play and which units they may join, not confirmation. NHL.com labels its combinations as projected, so describe a player as expected or projected unless the latest update explicitly confirms the lineup.
Scratched
A player listed as scratched is reported as not dressing in that lineup report. This is distinct from an injury designation, so do not treat the two labels as interchangeable.

Injured or status note
An injury or availability note reports information about the player’s health or status; it does not by itself settle whether the player will play. Preserve the report’s uncertainty and attribution, particularly when a coach has not made a decision.
When is the lineup officially submitted?
NHL Rule 5 says the visiting team submits its list of eligible players within five minutes after warm-up ends. The rule describes warm-up as taking place twenty minutes before face-off. It also says only players on the submitted lineup may participate. See the NHL rulebook.

This is a procedural deadline for the team’s eligible-player list, not a promised publication time for NHL.com, an app, or another public source. The rule does not establish that an online lineup or goalie update will appear at a particular minute.

Check the label: “Projected” signals an expectation, not a confirmed lineup.

Check what is actually resolved: a player may be available while the coach has not decided whether to use him. NHL.com’s October 3, 2026 report illustrates this distinction.

Check attribution and timing: give more weight to a newer update that identifies a coach or team source than to an inferred lineup, while still noting whether it is explicitly confirmed.

Check again near face-off: use the latest available report rather than assuming a prior projection or a formal submission deadline means the public listing has already changed.
