Check the current NFL or team injury report, read the player’s practice participation and game designation as separate fields, then refresh close to kickoff for the official inactive list. The report tells you what has been filed; it does not guarantee a player’s fantasy availability until the game-day inactive check.
Where to find the current injury report

Open the NFL injury report for the current season and week, or visit the relevant team’s official report.

Confirm the player’s name, team, matchup and reporting week. Reports group players by team or matchup and show injury, practice participation and game status. The NFL’s Week 4 report for 2026 illustrates those fields; use the current week’s report rather than carrying a past listing forward.

Use the latest official update available. A fantasy app’s player tile or an earlier news alert can be convenient, but verify consequential updates against NFL or team information.

Prioritize sources by authority, recency, specificity and timing: an official filing for the correct player and week, updated close to your league’s lineup deadline, is more useful than a reposted summary or a general tracker.
How to read practice participation
The report lists practice participation separately from game status. Its practice categories are Did Not Participate, Limited Participation and Full Participation. They describe what happened in practice; they are not game-day rulings or direct predictions of availability.

A practice entry alone does not establish a diagnosis, recovery timeline, probability of playing or likely fantasy production. Look for the separate game-status field and keep checking as the week progresses.
What the game-status designations mean
| Designation | NFL meaning | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Questionable | “Questionable means it is uncertain as to whether the player will play in the game.” — NFL Injury Report Policy. | Availability is uncertain. The term does not provide a guaranteed coin-flip probability. |
| Doubtful | “Doubtful means it is unlikely the player will participate.” — NFL Injury Report Policy. | Plan for meaningful risk that the player will not participate; continue checking for updates. |
| Out | “Out means the player will not play.” — NFL Injury Report Policy. | Do not plan to use the player in that game. |
The policy definitions above come from the NFL’s 2017 document; the reporting schedule should be checked against the current season calendar. If an early-week report has no game-status entry, do not treat the blank as clearance. Wait for the applicable game-status report.

When reports are due—and when to check again
The applicable filing schedule depends on the game day. The NFL’s 2026-27 calendar sets a 4:00 p.m. New York time deadline, or as soon as possible after practice, for applicable practice and game-status reports. For a Sunday game, it lists Wednesday through Friday practice reports and a Friday game-status deadline. Other game days follow different schedules, so consult the calendar for the specific matchup.
A first game-status report may not be the last update: the calendar requires a change in a player’s condition after that report to be reported. Refresh the official team or league information near your lineup deadline, then check the game-day inactive list close to kickoff. NFL game-day procedures include each club’s inactive list in the pregame Game Day Administration Report; a player listed inactive is not available to play in that game.

Make the lineup decision around your league’s lock
If a player remains uncertain as your lineup deadline approaches, weigh the risk of a late inactive against the opportunity cost of your available bench or waiver alternatives. Account for your league’s lock time and position flexibility: a flexible position or a later-starting substitute may preserve more options than a player whose game begins before you can react.

Before the deadline, identify a realistic substitute and note when that player’s game starts.

If official information remains uncertain at lock, decide whether the potential value of keeping the player outweighs the risk of receiving no lineup points if he is inactive.

Do not turn a designation into a numerical playing probability, and do not assume a fantasy platform updates at the same moment as official team news.
This is a lineup-risk decision, not a medical assessment or a player-specific forecast.
