First identify whether your processor is Intel or AMD and how you bought it: sealed retail box, tray/OEM stock, or installed in a prebuilt computer. That determines which number to look for and whether the CPU maker, seller, or system builder handles warranty service. An operating system’s CPU model name is not the processor’s serial number.
Start with the processor’s maker and sales channel
Check the original packaging, purchase record, or computer specifications to establish the maker and sales channel before using a warranty lookup.
- Sealed retail-box CPU: Use the relevant Intel or AMD identification and warranty tools below. A lookup result is an indication of coverage, not a substitute for the applicable warranty terms.
- Tray or OEM CPU bought separately: Start with the seller or place of purchase. A retail-box warranty lookup does not establish that the manufacturer handles a tray/OEM unit.
- CPU installed in a prebuilt computer: Contact the computer manufacturer or system builder first. AMD states, “If the processor came pre-installed in the system, warranty will be provided by the system builder.” AMD’s tray and MPK processor warranty guidance explains this route.
Keep the proof of purchase and original packaging if available. Product details and purchase records can matter when requesting service.

For an Intel boxed desktop Core, Pentium, or Celeron processor, record two identifiers: the FPO batch number and the ATPO serial number. Intel’s marking guidance applies to universal and China boxed processors; Xeon products have separate marking guidance. Intel’s processor markings guide shows the relevant locations.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
Find the markings
- On the processor: The FPO is printed on top. A partial ATPO appears on the outer edge, while the 2D matrix contains the full ATPO.
- On the shipping box: Look for “Batch#” and “S/N.” These can provide the identifiers without removing the processor from the computer.
Run Intel’s warranty check
- Open Intel’s Warranty Information tool.
- Select Processors.
- Enter the FPO and the full or partial ATPO, then submit the check.
- Review the estimated warranty expiration and whether Intel identifies the processor as boxed or tray.
If Intel reports that the product could not be located, carefully compare the entered values with the markings: Intel says the FPO and ATPO may be mistyped or mismatched. Re-enter them, and contact Intel support if the result remains inconclusive. If the lookup identifies a tray processor, Intel directs owners to the place of purchase for options.
Where is the serial number on an AMD Ryzen CPU?
For an AMD boxed processor, use the serial number on the retail box’s tamper-evident authentication label. The label also includes the OPN, or ordering part number. The processor lid carries markings too; scanning its QR code can show the serial and a tray part number. AMD’s boxed processor identification and serial lookup provides processor details, OPN, warranty coverage, and service eligibility.
Rank #2
- Can deliver fast 100 plus FPS performance in the world's most popular games, discrete graphics card required
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, bundled with the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
- 4.2 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 19 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
- For the advanced Socket AM4 platform
Use the processor serial for a boxed-processor claim, not the tray part number: AMD says the tray part number is not valid for that claim. If the CPU was installed in a prebuilt system or sold separately as an unsealed/OEM processor, follow the system-builder or point-of-purchase route described in AMD’s warranty guidance for tray and MPK processors.

Read an online result as an estimate or eligibility indication. Intel’s tool reports an estimated expiration date; AMD’s lookup supplies coverage and service-eligibility details. If a result is negative, unclear, or inconsistent with your purchase records, check the entered identifiers and contact the appropriate official support channel or seller. A lookup by itself does not establish that a CPU is counterfeit or settle every warranty or statutory-rights question.

| Manufacturer and product category | Published duration and qualifications |
|---|---|
| Intel boxed processors | Intel’s 2026 review of its Warranty Guide says boxed processors typically have a three-year limited warranty, with some one-year exceptions. The period begins on the original purchase date; registration is not required, and a replacement does not reset the period. The guide says periods generally are not extended, with a stated exception for impacted 13th/14th Gen Vmin Shift Instability SKUs. Check Intel’s warranty policy and the terms for the specific processor. |
| Qualifying AMD Processor-in-a-Box products | AMD’s posted Processor-in-a-Box 3 Year Limited Warranty provides three years after purchase for qualifying products. It applies to the original purchaser while they continue to own the processor. Confirm eligibility under AMD’s Processor-in-a-Box warranty terms. |
