To change a Fitbit watch face, keep the device nearby, open the current Google Health app, and go to Connections → your device → Watch faces. In Clocks, tap a face and choose Install. The app name may still appear as Fitbit in older instructions or on an older installation, but Google Health is the current label used in the official steps.
After installation, you can switch among saved faces from the same Watch faces screen. Sense and Versa watches can keep up to five saved faces. When that list is full, remove one before adding another if you want the new face retained in the saved list. Supported models also let you switch directly on the watch.
Before you start: identify the current app and the device
Google’s current support instructions use the name Google Health app. Many owners still call it the Fitbit app, and older help pages may use that name. The important part is the menu path: Connections, then your Fitbit device, then Watch faces. If your updated app uses Google Health branding, follow those labels rather than searching for a separate “Fitbit app” menu.

Keep the watch close to the phone while you browse and install a face. The official instructions begin, “To change your clock face, keep your device nearby and then follow these steps.” A nearby device also makes it easier to tell whether you are managing the correct watch when more than one device has been associated with the account.

There are three different actions that are easy to confuse:
- Installing a face puts a clock design on the watch.
- Saving a face keeps it in the watch’s list for later switching.
- Selecting a saved face makes that saved design the one currently displayed.
The app’s Watch faces screen handles all three, but the controls are different. A face can be visible on the watch without being retained in the saved list when the list has reached its limit.
Change the watch face in the Google Health app
Use this procedure when you want to browse the gallery or install a face you have not selected before.
- Open Google Health on the phone that is paired with your Fitbit. If your installation still shows Fitbit branding, open that companion app; the equivalent controls are under the same device-management area.
- Open Connections.
- Tap the Fitbit device whose face you want to change. Selecting the device matters if the account contains more than one watch or tracker.
- Open Watch faces.
- In Clocks, browse the available designs. The gallery shown is tied to the selected model and the availability rules for your account and region.
- Tap the face you want.
- Tap Install and leave the device nearby while the selection is applied.
When installation completes, the chosen design should be the active face on the watch. Return to Connections → device → Watch faces if you want to confirm that it was added to the saved-face list or to choose a different saved face.
If the labels do not match
App screens can differ by device model, app version, and region. Look for Connections first, then select the watch before looking for Watch faces. The face gallery is called Clocks in the current instructions. A menu labelled “Clock faces” or “Watch face” is the same type of control; do not install a second app simply because an older guide uses “Fitbit app.”

How saved faces work on Sense and Versa watches
Fitbit Sense and Versa series watches support up to five saved clock faces. A newly selected face is saved automatically when fewer than five faces are already saved. This means selecting and installing a new design normally adds it to the saved list without a separate “save” button.
Adding a face when the list is not full
- Follow Connections → device → Watch faces.
- Open Clocks and tap a face.
- Tap Install.
- Because the saved list has room, the newly selected face is saved automatically.
The new face becomes available for later selection from the saved-face controls. The currently displayed face and the other saved designs remain available until you remove one.
Adding a face when five are already saved
When five faces are saved, remove one before switching to a new design if you want the new design added to the saved list. If you install a different face without making room first, that face can appear on the watch but not be retained among the saved faces. This explains why a design may be visible immediately yet be absent when you later open the saved-face list.
- Open Connections → device → Watch faces.
- Tap one of the saved faces you no longer need.
- Choose Remove clock face.
- Return to Clocks, select the replacement face, and tap Install.
Removing a saved face does not remove every face from the gallery. It only clears that design from the watch’s saved list, making room for another selection.

The app is the most consistent method because it exposes the saved list for the device you selected.

- Open Google Health (or the older Fitbit-branded companion app).
- Tap Connections.
- Select the watch.
- Open Watch faces.
- Tap the saved face you want to use.
- Choose Select.
Select changes the active face without requiring you to browse the entire gallery. If you want to clear a design from the list instead, open that saved face and choose Remove clock face. Use Remove only when you want to free a saved-face slot or no longer want that design available for quick switching.
Switch on the watch
On supported devices, you can switch among saved faces without opening the phone app. The documented on-watch shortcut applies to Fitbit Sense, Versa 3, and Versa 4: press and hold the current face, then choose another face from the saved options. Other models may expose saved-face switching through their own Clocks app, but on-watch controls vary by device.
If pressing and holding does not open a face chooser on your model, use the app path instead. The absence of that shortcut does not by itself mean the saved faces were deleted; it may simply mean that the model does not provide the same gesture.
App switching versus on-watch switching

The app is also the right place to manage capacity. On-watch switching chooses among faces already saved; it does not replace the app’s remove-and-install workflow when you need to make room.
Why a face may be unavailable
Compatibility is tied to the watch model
Clock faces are model-specific. A face that worked on an older Fitbit may not be compatible after you upgrade to a different model. Select the current device in Connections before browsing, because the gallery is filtered by that device’s support. Installing a face for one watch does not make it transferable to every Fitbit in the account.

A developer may have removed the face
Third-party developers can remove faces from the gallery. If a design no longer appears in Clocks, it may no longer be distributed even if you used it previously. Searching by the old name or checking another phone will not restore a face that is no longer offered for your device.
Availability differs by region and device
Face and app availability is not identical everywhere. The official app-management guidance says that installation of third-party apps and clock faces was removed for users in the European Economic Area in June 2024. That regional change should not be treated as a worldwide removal of every third-party clock. Your device model, account region, and the current catalog all affect what appears.
First-party faces may therefore be visible when a third-party catalog is limited. Conversely, a face can be listed for one model or region and absent for another. Use the gallery shown for the selected device as the authoritative list for that account.

The face is installed but some stats are blank
Some faces need permissions to read and display certain Fitbit statistics. If a design is present but one or more data fields are empty, open that face’s settings or permission prompt in the app and enable the permissions it requests. The exact permissions depend on the face and the data it displays.
To separate a face-specific problem from a device problem, install or test a face categorized By Google Health. If the Google Health face shows the expected information while the third-party face does not, the issue is more likely related to the third-party face’s permissions or implementation than to the watch itself.

The new face does not appear in the saved list
Check whether five faces were already saved. At capacity, a newly installed design can be displayed without being retained for later switching. Remove an unwanted saved face, then install the desired design again so it has a slot.
The face is missing from Clocks
First confirm that the correct watch is selected under Connections. Then consider model compatibility, regional availability, and whether the developer has withdrawn the design. A face used on an older Fitbit is not guaranteed to be offered for a newer model.
The app does not show the expected controls
Use the full path rather than relying on a shortcut: Connections → device → Watch faces → Clocks. If you are viewing a different device, the saved list and gallery can look unrelated to the watch on your wrist. If on-watch switching is unavailable, manage the face from the app; direct switching is supported only on certain models and interfaces.

Keep the Fitbit near the phone and return to the selected device’s Watch faces page. Verify that the installation was started from the current device entry, not from a different watch in the account. If the face still does not appear, check the compatibility and availability causes above before assuming that the saved list has been erased.
A practical workflow for changing faces without losing favorites
- Identify the watch. In Google Health, open Connections and select the exact device you are wearing.
- Review saved faces. Open Watch faces and count the designs currently retained. Sense and Versa watches allow up to five.
- Make room if necessary. Remove a saved design you no longer use before installing a replacement when the list is full.
- Choose from Clocks. Browse faces shown for that model and tap the design you want.
- Install while the watch is nearby. Tap Install and wait for the app to apply the choice.
- Confirm the result. Return to Watch faces to check that the design is saved, or choose Select on an existing saved face to switch without installing another.
- Use the watch shortcut when supported. On Sense, Versa 3, and Versa 4, press and hold the current face to choose among saved designs.
This workflow keeps the two decisions separate: installing a new face changes the gallery selection, while Select and Remove clock face manage the saved collection. That distinction prevents an unwanted face from consuming a saved slot and explains why a face can be active without remaining available for quick switching.
What to expect after changing models or regions
Changing from an older Fitbit to a newer model can alter the available face list. Saved faces belong to the device model’s supported catalog; they are not a universal library that follows every upgrade. Recheck the Clocks gallery after pairing the new watch and reinstall a compatible design if the former one is absent.
Likewise, a catalog change in your region can affect third-party faces independently of your watch’s hardware. The June 2024 European Economic Area restriction concerns third-party app and clock installation for users there; it does not establish that every region has the same restriction or that all first-party faces disappear. When a face is unavailable, use the current gallery for your selected device and account rather than an older screenshot or a guide written for another market.
