For most Samsung Galaxy phones, your mobile carrier controls how long an unanswered call rings before carrier voicemail answers. Ask your carrier whether it can extend that delay and how to request the change. A software exception is available on eligible Galaxy phones running Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher: Samsung Direct voicemail may let you set a ringing duration.
First, identify which voicemail service handles your calls
“Number of rings” usually means the time between an unanswered incoming call and its diversion to voicemail. With standard carrier voicemail, that delay is generally a network setting—not a Galaxy ringtone setting. Samsung’s India support guidance says to contact your network provider to extend the time before voicemail diversion: Change the Ringtone on a Samsung Phone.
Ask your carrier whether it can change the unanswered-call or voicemail-diversion delay, what options it allows, and whether you can make the change in its account app or need customer support. The available procedure and durations depend on the carrier and country; no single carrier delay or set of choices applies to every Galaxy user.
Check for Samsung Direct voicemail on eligible phones
Samsung documents a separate option for eligible Galaxy phones: Direct voicemail can automatically route calls to voicemail after a specified ringing duration. Samsung says the feature requires Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher, and availability varies by model, software version, and carrier. See Samsung’s Direct voicemail instructions for its current requirements.

- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More options, then Settings.
- Tap Direct voicemail.
- If the feature is available and enabled, find Auto send to voicemail and select one of the durations shown.
If Direct voicemail or the duration setting does not appear, your model, software, or carrier may not support it. The steps are not a universal replacement for changing the carrier’s standard voicemail delay.
Why call forwarding may not change the ring time
Samsung’s documented call-forwarding menu is Phone > More options > Settings > Supplementary services > Call forwarding. It can list conditions such as always forward, when busy, when unanswered, and when unreachable, but availability varies by carrier and model. Seeing an “unanswered” forwarding option does not establish that your phone has a universal setting for how long it rings. Samsung describes these features in its Galaxy calling features guide.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Settings that do not control voicemail timing
Changing the ringtone or its volume affects the sound you hear; it does not change when the carrier diverts an unanswered call to voicemail. Samsung’s call-settings guidance also notes that available settings can vary by provider and software.
Likewise, do not rely on a dial code found in a forum as a universal fix. A Samsung Community discussion includes a suggested code, but it does not establish that the code works across carriers, countries, or service configurations. Use a code only if your carrier publishes current instructions for your service and location: Samsung Community voicemail discussion.
