You can change a Nextion display’s page from an Arduino project built in Visuino by creating the pages in Nextion Editor, adding Visuino Activate Page elements, and triggering them with buttons. Use three buttons for direct page selection, or one button with a counter to cycle through three pages.
Choose how you want to select pages
| Control method | Physical buttons | Visuino components | How selection works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct selection | Three | Three Debounce Button components and three Activate Page elements | Each button triggers its assigned page. |
| Sequential selection | One | One Debounce Button, a Counter, a Clock Demux with three outputs, and three Activate Page elements | Each press advances through the counter’s three values and selects the corresponding page. |
The Visuino tutorial’s materials list includes an Arduino UNO or another board, a Nextion display, three buttons, three 1 kΩ resistors, a breadboard, jumper wires, Nextion Editor, and Visuino. For its one-button variant, it says to connect only the first button. The tutorial does not identify a display model or size, so select and configure the actual unit you own rather than assuming a particular model.
Create and load the HMI pages
- In Nextion Editor, create a project and select the exact display model and orientation.
- Add three pages. The tutorial’s example puts a text element on each, but the page content is up to your project.
- Compile the project and export its TFT file.
- Transfer the TFT file using an SD card. Copy the file to the card, insert it in the display, and follow the display’s update process.
- Finish the update safely. The tutorial says to disconnect power and remove the SD card after the update completes.
For the display’s exact update procedure, electrical requirements, and compatibility, consult the official documentation for its series and firmware. The general command reference describes page behavior, but it is not a model-specific hardware manual.
Wire the Arduino, display, and buttons
The Visuino tutorial’s example wiring connects display VCC to Arduino 5V and GND to GND. It crosses the serial lines: Nextion RX to Arduino TX, and Nextion TX to Arduino RX. Its three-button arrangement uses Arduino digital pins 2, 3, and 4; each input line has a 1 kΩ resistor to ground, and each button connects to 5V.
#1 Best Overall
- -Compared with Basic nextion display and nextion enhanced screen, Nextion Intelligent display has more powerful hardware in terms of MCU, Flash storage and SRAM. Audio, video and animation play functions enrich your project HMI interaction.
- -Nextion intelligent 7 capacitive display is a 5V device, but many development boards are 3.3V. It won't make the display power up.
- -To ensure Nextion capacitive 7 intelligent display work as expected, it's recommended to supply power via power adapter, not usb to ttl or boards.
- -If you supply power for NX8048P070-011C-Y via PC, the Nextion intelligent 7 inch display may works not as expected even though your PC is 5V.
- -Uploading TFT file via sd card is faster than the usb to ttl, but pls ensure card: FAT32 format, only one tft file(no folder), and no more than 32GB.
Treat these as the tutorial’s example connections, not universal specifications. Check the supply and logic requirements for your specific Nextion model, and check your board’s serial-pin behavior before wiring. The tutorial advises disconnecting the Arduino RX pin during upload and reconnecting it afterward.
Build the three-button Visuino project
- Select the board. In Visuino, choose the Arduino board type that matches your hardware.
- Add the components. Add a Nextion Display component and three Debounce Button components.
- Create page actions. Open the Nextion Display component’s Elements editor and add three Activate Page elements, named
page0,page1, andpage2. - Connect the buttons. Connect digital pins 2, 3, and 4 to the respective button inputs. Connect each button output to the clock input of its matching Activate Page element.
- Connect serial communication. Connect the Nextion component output to the Arduino serial input, following the project’s wiring and your board’s serial configuration.
Each physical button now has a direct mapping to one of the three named page actions.

- -Compared with Nextion Basic & Nextion Enhanced, Nextion Intelligent display has more powerful hardware in terms of MCU, Flash storage and SRAM. Audio, video and animation play functions enrich your project HMI interaction.
- -Nextion intelligent 7.0 display is a 5V device, but many development boards are 3.3V. It won't make the display power up.
- -To ensure Nextion 7.0 intelligent display work as expected, it's recommended to supply power via power adapter, not usb to ttl or boards.
- -If you supply power for this Nextion 7 intelligent display via PC, the NX8048P070-011C may works not as expected even though your PC is 5V.
- -Uploading TFT file via sd card is faster than the usb to ttl, but pls ensure card: FAT32 format, only one tft file(no folder), and no more than 32GB.
Build the one-button page cycle
- Add the components. Use one Debounce Button, a Counter configured from 0 through 2, a Clock Demux with three outputs, a Nextion Display component, and three Activate Page elements.
- Name the page actions. In the display component’s Elements editor, add actions named
page0,page1, andpage2. - Connect the control path. Connect the button output to the Counter, then the Counter output to the Clock Demux input.
- Connect the page outputs. Connect each Demux output to the clock input of its corresponding Activate Page element.
- Connect the display serial output to the Arduino serial input.
This is sequential selection: the counter’s values route presses to the three page actions. The tutorial does not specify behavior for recovering or synchronizing this counter if something else changes the display’s page.
Build and upload the Visuino project
- Choose the correct Arduino board and port in Visuino.
- Disconnect the Arduino RX pin as advised by the tutorial.
- Use the Build tab’s compile/build and upload action.
- Reconnect Arduino RX after the upload, then power up the Arduino and press the button or buttons.
The tutorial says the buttons should change the displayed page after the Arduino powers up; it does not provide an independently tested compatibility matrix for different boards, display models, and software versions. Visuino’s download and product information is available at Visuino’s download page.

- -As a member of Nextion basic series, NX4832T035 is a powerful 3.5 inch HMI: a 3.5" TFT 480 x 320 resistive touch screen display, 4M Flash, 2KByte RAM, 65k colors.
- -Nextion 3.5 display is a 5V device, but many development boards are 3.3V. It won't make the display power up.
- -To ensure Nextion basic 3.5 inch display work as expected, it's recommended to supply power via power adapter, not usb to ttl or boards.
- -Uploading TFT file via sd card is faster than the usb to ttl, but pls ensure card: FAT32 format, only one tft file(no folder), and no more than 32GB.
- -If your HMI project was developed via 0.53 or prior version Nextion Editor, we recommend you to use the LTS version for project maintenance as the latest version is not fully compatible with your exsisting source code and GUI desgin.
What the Activate Page action does
The Visuino example uses named Activate Page elements to request a page change. In Nextion’s general instruction reference, the page command takes a page index or page name and loads the requested page, replacing the old one. The reference says page 0 loads by default at power-on. It also documents dp as the current page ID, which can be written to change pages.
For projects that need to inspect page state, the reference describes sendme as a way to report the currently loaded page number over serial; it can be used in a page’s initialize event. See the Nextion instruction reference for the general command details, and verify command and hardware behavior against documentation for your specific display.

Adapting the approach to an Arduino sketch
Visuino’s Nextion component is the route used in this tutorial; the ITEAD Arduino Nextion library is a separate, code-based option, not a required Visuino dependency. The ITEAD library repository describes serial-display control and notes that boards need at least one hardware serial. For UNO-like boards with only one hardware serial, its guidance is to disable debug serial and redirect the Nextion connection to Serial.
