Change mouse pointer speed in Settings: in Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse and adjust Mouse pointer speed. In Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Devices > Mouse and adjust Cursor speed. The slider changes how quickly the pointer moves; choose a position that feels right for your mouse and setup.
Change pointer speed in Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Move the Mouse pointer speed slider until the pointer moves at a comfortable rate.
Microsoft’s mouse settings instructions identify this slider as the Windows 11 speed control. They do not prescribe an ideal position, so adjust it to suit your preference.
Change pointer speed in Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Devices > Mouse.
- Move the Cursor speed slider to change how quickly the pointer moves.
Windows 10 uses the label Cursor speed, rather than Windows 11’s Mouse pointer speed, for the comparable control on the Mouse settings page.
Choose the right setting for the problem
Pointer speed, precision, visibility, and keyboard control are separate settings. Use the option that matches what you want to change:

Open additional pointer options
Windows 11
Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse, then select Additional mouse settings under Related settings. In the Mouse Properties window, open the Pointer Options tab for legacy behaviors such as pointer trails.
Windows 10
Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse, then select Additional mouse options under Related settings. In Mouse Properties, the Pointer Options tab contains additional pointer controls.

If the setting is missing or the pointer still feels wrong
- The labels differ: Check which Windows version the PC is running. Windows 11 and Windows 10 use different navigation paths and slider labels, and interface text can vary between builds.
- The pointer is still too fast or slow: Return to the Mouse settings page for your Windows version and adjust its speed slider.
- Slow movement feels inaccurate: Try changing Enhance pointer precision separately from the speed slider and keep the setting that works better for you.
- You are moving the pointer with the number pad: Use Mouse Keys rather than the ordinary mouse speed slider. In Windows 11, its speed controls are under Settings > Accessibility > Mouse > Mouse keys speed.
- The pointer is hard to see: Adjust visibility options such as size, color, or trails; changing appearance does not increase pointer speed.
Windows 10 support status
Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. After that date, Microsoft no longer provides free software updates through Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10, although the PC continues to work. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 support information.
