Most iPhone Calendar options in this guide are under Settings > Apps > Calendar. Open Default Alert Times to change default reminders or Time to Leave; use the separate Week Numbers switch to display numbered weeks. [Apple Support]
Change the default iPhone Calendar alert time
Default alert times apply by event category, so birthdays, regular events, and all-day events can have different defaults.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Calendar.
- Tap Default Alert Times.
- Tap Birthdays, Events, or All-Day Events, then choose the alert timing you want.
To set a reminder for just one event, open it in Calendar, tap Edit, tap Alert, choose a time, and save the event. Apple’s event guide covers individual event alerts.

For leave-time advice, add a location to the event. Apple says Calendar uses Apple Maps information about the location, traffic conditions, and transit options to advise when it is time to leave; its documentation does not promise a precise arrival or departure calculation. [Apple Support]

Show week numbers in Calendar
To answer “How do I turn on week numbers on iPhone Calendar?” open Settings > Apps > Calendar and turn on Week Numbers. Apple describes the setting as displaying the week number next to every week of the year. [Apple Support]
Do not confuse this with Start Week On, which chooses the weekday that begins the week, or Week View Starts On Today, which affects Calendar’s week view. Those are separate display settings.

Why iPhone Calendar alerts may not appear
Default alert timing and notification presentation are separate controls. If an event has an alert but you are not seeing or hearing it as expected, check Settings > Notifications > Calendar. There you can allow notifications and choose where and how they appear, including on the Lock Screen, in Notification Center, as banners, and with sounds. [Apple Support]
If the wording differs on your iPhone, look for Calendar in Settings; Apple’s cited guide documents these paths but does not specify a universal iOS-version range for identical labels.
