To change an Optoma projector bulb, first identify your projector’s exact model and follow its manual: switch the projector off, let it cool for the time specified, unplug it, replace the lamp module without touching the glass, then reset the lamp timer. Optoma calls the replaceable assembly a lamp or lamp module; the cover, fasteners, connector and reset menu can differ by model.
Before you begin: identify the projector and the right lamp
Check the projector’s model label, then use the manual or Optoma support materials for that exact model to confirm the compatible lamp part and replacement steps. The title alone does not identify a part number, and there is no universal Optoma lamp that can safely be assumed to fit.
Optoma says its genuine lamps include a bulb and holder and are designed for specific Optoma projectors. Check that a replacement listing is for your model and whether it supplies a complete lamp module or only a bulb. Optoma warns that counterfeit lamps may affect performance and that damage caused by one may not be covered by warranty; the cited guidance is regional, so check warranty terms applicable in your country and for your projector. How to replace an Optoma projector lamp
Use the procedure in your model’s manual before opening the projector. The steps below reflect an Optoma DLP Projector manual; other models may have different covers, screws or connector arrangements.

- Turn off the projector and let it cool. Switch it off using its power control. The cited manual requires at least 30 minutes of cooling before lamp access; follow your own model’s manual if it specifies a different interval.
- Unplug the power cord. Do not open the lamp compartment while the projector is connected to power.
- Remove the lamp cover. Take out the cover fastener or fasteners and remove the cover as shown in your model’s manual.
- Take out the old lamp module. Loosen its fastener or fasteners, raise the handle and lift the module carefully. Disconnect the lamp connector if your model has one. Do not force the module or connector.
- Fit the replacement module. Use a lamp verified for your exact model and reverse the removal steps. On the cited model, the manual instructs users to align the module and seat the lamp connector flush with its base; improper seating can damage that projector.
- Close the compartment and restart. Refit the lamp cover and fasteners before reconnecting power. The cited manual says the projector will not turn on unless the cover is back in place.
- Reset the lamp timer. After turning on the projector, use the model-specific menu instructions. The cited manual’s sequence is Menu → Setup → Lamp Settings → Lamp Reset → Yes.
How to handle the lamp safely
Avoid touching the lamp glass. Optoma’s cited manual warns: “Do not touch the glass area of the lamp. Hand oil can cause the lamp shatter.” Handle the module by its designated handle and follow the manual’s instructions for removal and installation. If the module or connector resists, stop rather than forcing it.

Why reset the lamp timer?
The lamp reset records the replacement in the projector’s lamp settings. Use the menu path documented for your model rather than assuming every Optoma projector uses the same labels or sequence. In the cited manual, select Menu → Setup → Lamp Settings → Lamp Reset → Yes.

If the projector will not turn on after replacement
- Check that the lamp cover is fully reinstalled and its fasteners are secure; the cited manual requires the cover to be in place for startup.
- With the projector off, unplugged and cooled, check the module’s seating and any connector described in your model’s manual. Do not force a connector; on the cited model it must sit flush with its base.
- Confirm that the replacement is specified for your exact projector model and that the item is the type of assembly your manual calls for.
- Consult the exact model’s manual or Optoma support if the projector still does not start; the cited procedure may not match your unit’s layout.
