To review or delete Alexa voice history, open the Alexa app and go to More > Alexa Privacy > Review Alexa History. To change how long history is kept, go to More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data. You can also use Amazon’s Alexa Privacy Settings page.
Review what Alexa recorded
- Open the Alexa app and select More > Alexa Privacy > Review Alexa History. Alternatively, visit Amazon’s Alexa Privacy Settings.
- Select a history item to inspect the available audio, transcript, typed request, and Alexa response. Amazon describes Review Alexa History as a way to play audio streamed to the cloud and review what Alexa understood and replied.
- If you want to remove an item, choose the delete control shown for that entry and confirm the request.
Related requests may be grouped into a chat. In that case, the history item and its retention timing can be associated with the chat’s most recent request.
Delete individual history items
Deleting an entry starts a cloud deletion process; it may take time to complete. While deletion is processing, Amazon says the data may still be used for personalization. Deleting voice history does not necessarily remove other interaction records, data stored outside Amazon’s cloud, or information a skill developer retains from skill interactions. Amazon says skill developers do not receive voice recordings.
If you have changed your default marketplace, Amazon says you must delete Alexa voice history separately for each marketplace. App navigation and availability can vary by app version, device, and marketplace.

Choose how long Alexa keeps voice history
In the Alexa app, open More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data and review the current voice-history options. Amazon documents these choices:

These are the periods Amazon documents for its Alexa history controls; options may differ depending on marketplace, device, or app version. The setting for not saving recordings is distinct from deleting existing history entries.

Manage other privacy controls separately
To manage whether voice recordings are used to improve services, open More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data and review the available controls there. Skill permissions and advertising preferences are separate: find them under More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Skill Permissions and Ad Preferences. Changing those preferences is not the same as deleting voice history.
Alexa history controls versus the Echo microphone button
Account history settings govern recordings and related history stored in the cloud. The Echo microphone button controls whether that device can hear voice commands: Amazon says pressing it disconnects the microphones, displays a red light, and stops Alexa responding until the microphones are turned back on. It does not replace reviewing or deleting history in the app.
