To show your Galaxy phone or tablet’s entire display on a compatible TV, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, open Smart View in Quick Settings, select the TV, and approve the connection. To send only a video or other supported content, use the Cast button inside that app instead. The methods are different, and the right one depends on your device, TV, and what you want to display.
Choose the right way to connect
Samsung describes screen mirroring as viewing content from a mobile device on a TV screen. With Smart View, the TV displays the Galaxy device’s screen. An app’s Cast control sends supported content from that app to a TV; it does not simply mirror everything on the phone. Samsung notes that app casting requires the app to support casting on both devices, and recommends signing into the same account on each.

- Connect the Galaxy device and TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Swipe down from the top of the device screen to open Quick Settings. Tap Smart View. If it is not shown, edit Quick Settings and add it; the editing controls can differ by device. Samsung Gulf’s Smart View guide describes this setup.
- Choose your TV from the available-device list.
- Accept the connection on the TV if prompted. Depending on the setup, you may need to enter a PIN or confirm the connection on your phone.
- To end mirroring, disconnect in Smart View on the phone or exit mirroring with the TV remote.
Smart View is not available on every Samsung device, and the TV must support the connection method. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance refers to Miracast-capable equipment; confirm support for your specific models in their documentation.

Cast a video or other content from an app
- Connect the phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network, then open a cast-enabled app.
- Open the content you want to play and tap the app’s Cast icon. Its location varies by app and screen orientation.
- Select the TV from the device list and follow any prompts shown by the app or TV.
If the TV does not appear, check that the app supports casting on both the phone and TV. Samsung also advises signing into the same account on both devices. This method sends supported app content; use Smart View when you need the TV to show the Galaxy device’s display.
Connect through SmartThings
SmartThings offers another way to set up and control a Samsung TV. Samsung UK says the app can automatically detect and connect to most Samsung TVs manufactured from 2016 onwards. After adding and pairing the TV in SmartThings, look for Mirror screen (Smart View) to begin mirroring. SmartThings can also act as a second remote.

If the TV is missing from the app, check that it is powered on. Samsung recommends restarting the app or devices; if the TV still cannot be found, restart the router. The model-year coverage is not a guarantee for every TV, so check your model’s SmartThings compatibility.
Share from an iPhone or iPad with AirPlay
For Apple-device sharing, Samsung UK says AirPlay is available on supported Samsung TVs manufactured after 2019. Connect the Apple device and TV to the same Wi-Fi network, then use AirPlay on the Apple device to share photos, video, or audio. A code may appear on the TV for confirmation.

Before troubleshooting, verify that the exact TV model supports AirPlay and that AirPlay is enabled in its settings. The feature is for Apple devices; a Galaxy phone should use Smart View or an app’s Cast button instead.
Use an HDMI cable for a wired connection
Samsung documents a separately sold HDMI adapter as a fallback when a wireless connection is difficult. A USB-C port alone does not establish that a phone can send video to a TV: check video-output support for the exact phone and adapter before buying or connecting anything.

- Connect an HDMI cable to a compatible USB-C-to-HDMI adapter.
- Connect the HDMI cable to an open port on the TV.
- Connect the adapter to the phone.
- On the TV, select the HDMI input that matches the port you used.
For older devices without USB-C, Samsung says a third-party adapter may be needed, but its performance is not guaranteed. For a non-smart TV, Samsung also names Chromecast as an option; the appropriate setup depends on whether you need to cast an app or mirror the full screen.
Fix Smart View when it cannot find or connect to the TV
Work through these checks in order. Menu labels and update paths vary by model and software version.

- Check the network. Confirm that the phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network and that the connection is stable. If the network is unreliable, restore the connection and try again.
- Check the TV prompt. Make sure the TV is on and accept any connection or permission request on the TV or phone.
- Verify compatibility. Smart View is not available on every phone or tablet, and the TV must support the connection. Check both model’s documentation.
- Install available updates. Check for software updates on the phone and TV, then try connecting again.
- Disconnect from a VPN if an error points to it. Samsung US advises disconnecting from the VPN when a VPN setting error occurs.
- Restart both devices. Restart the phone and TV, then retry. Restart steps differ among TV models; follow the instructions for yours.
- Adjust the image if it looks too small. Samsung’s US guidance recommends changing the aspect ratio in Smart View.
- Account for protected video. Samsung says DRM-protected content cannot be mirrored. A black screen or unavailable video may therefore reflect content protection rather than a failed connection.
- Keep factory reset as a last resort. Samsung warns that a reset erases data and requires a backup. It is not a routine casting fix.
