To cast a Chrome tab from a Mac, open the tab in Chrome, choose More > Cast, save, and share > Cast, then select your Chromecast or another Google Cast receiver. Your Mac and receiver need a strong connection to the same Wi-Fi network. If Chrome cannot find the receiver on macOS 15 or later, allow Chrome to access the local network in System Settings.

Update Chrome and connect your Mac and Chromecast or other receiver to the same Wi-Fi network. Google recommends a strong connection for both devices.

Open the webpage you want to show in Chrome.

Select More > Cast, save, and share > Cast. The exact menu wording can vary slightly by Chrome version or language.

Choose the Chromecast or Google Cast receiver from the list. If it is already playing something, starting your cast replaces the current content.

To finish, select the Cast control beside Chrome’s address bar, then choose Stop casting. You can add the Cast button to Chrome’s toolbar as a shortcut.
Google’s Chrome instructions list Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer (4K), and TVs with Google Cast as compatible receivers. You do not need to buy a new device if you already have one of these. Google’s Cast from Chrome to your TV instructions cover the supported devices and casting steps.

What tab casting shows and where audio plays
Tab casting sends one Chrome tab to the TV; the same video or images remain visible on the Mac. Audio from that tab plays on the TV, while sound from other tabs and apps continues on the Mac. If you want other Mac apps to appear on the TV, cast the entire screen instead. Google notes that audio when casting the entire screen may remain on the computer. Some legacy plugins are not supported when casting.
If your Chromecast does not appear
Work through these checks in order. Avoid disabling firewall protections broadly; check only whether a rule is blocking Chrome or local network communication.

Confirm the Wi-Fi connection. Check that the Mac and receiver are on the same Wi-Fi network and that both have a strong connection.

Allow Local Network access on newer macOS versions. On macOS 15 or later, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and allow Chrome to discover devices on your network.

Check for network interference. Google identifies VPNs or proxy servers, firewall rules that block communication, and connection problems as possible reasons a Cast destination is missing. If appropriate, check whether one of these is preventing Chrome from reaching devices on the local network.

Restart both devices. Restart the streaming device and the Mac, then try opening the Cast menu again.

Verify receiver setup. If Chrome still cannot find it, confirm that the streaming device was set up correctly and follow Google’s No Cast destination found troubleshooting steps.
Mac compatibility for casting video
Google publishes Mac hardware and operating-system thresholds for video casting. A Mac below those requirements may still be able to project webpages, images, and slideshows, but video may not work well. Check Google’s minimum system requirements to cast from Chrome for the stated compatibility guidance.
