To capture a whole news article, use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature; a regular screen capture records only what is visible or selected. Firefox desktop documents built-in visible-area and full-page captures, and iPhone’s screenshot preview offers a Full Page option for content such as an entire Safari webpage. If you need only a passage, use a region capture instead. Check the saved image before sharing it, and keep the article URL and capture date with the file if you may need to find or contextualize it later.
Choose what you need to capture
First decide whether you need the visible screen, a selected portion, or the entire webpage. These are different outputs: a full-screen image may include browser controls or other desktop content, while a full-page capture is intended to include article content beyond the current viewport. A selected region is usually the simplest choice when you need only a headline and a particular passage.
- Visible screen: Use an ordinary screenshot when the material you need is already on screen.
- Selected region: Use a region-capture tool when only a particular part of the page matters.
- Entire webpage: Use a browser or device feature that explicitly supports full-page capture.
For any method, open the result and confirm that the article text you need is present and legible. A screenshot is a record of what appeared in the capture; by itself, it does not establish that a page is authentic, unchanged, or legally admissible.
How to capture a full news article in Firefox on desktop
Firefox documents two built-in routes: its screenshot interface and Developer Tools. The menu wording can vary with Firefox version and platform; Mozilla’s consumer instructions were published June 1, 2021, so treat the labels below as version-sensitive rather than universal.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Use Firefox’s screenshot interface
- Open the news article in Firefox and allow the part you need to load.
- Right-click the page on Windows, or two-finger tap on Mac, and choose Take Screenshot. If your version presents a different context menu, use the Developer Tools route below.
- Choose Save full page to include content beyond the visible screen, or choose Save visible for just the current view.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard, then inspect the result.
Mozilla’s instructions describe both clipboard copying and downloading as available outcomes. The screenshot interface is the more direct route when you do not need capture controls beyond page scope.
Use Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox’s developer documentation describes enabling a full-page screenshot button in Developer Tools settings, then using that toolbar button. It also documents the Web Console :screenshot helper for more control:
- Open Firefox Developer Tools and enable the Take a screenshot of the entire page button in Developer Tools settings.
- Use the toolbar button to capture the whole page, or open the Web Console and use the screenshot helper.
- For a delayed full-page capture saved under a distinct filename, enter
:screenshot --fullpage --delay 2 --filename news-article.png.
The helper also supports --dpr for device-pixel ratio and --filename for naming the PNG. If you save multiple versions, choose a new filename each time: reusing the same filename overwrites the previous capture. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot developer documentation for the documented options. Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot guide shows the consumer interface route.
How to capture part of a news page in Chrome
Chrome DevTools documents an area screenshot workflow. It captures a selected region, not a full webpage, so use it when you need a particular passage or visible portion rather than the complete article.
Rank #2
- CRISP CLARITY: This 22 inch class (21.5″ viewable) Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- 100HZ FAST REFRESH RATE: 100Hz brings your favorite movies and video games to life. Stream, binge, and play effortlessly
- SMOOTH ACTION WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC: Adaptive-Sync technology ensures fluid action sequences and rapid response time. Every frame will be rendered smoothly with crystal clarity and without stutter
- Open the page in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu.
- Type screenshot and select Capture area screenshot.
- Drag over the page area you want to capture, then inspect the resulting image.
The area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. Dock DevTools and try again if the option fails. Google’s Command Menu page, last updated September 4, 2024, documents this route and links to a separate guide about other DevTools screenshot methods; it does not establish the area workflow as a full-page capture. See Google Chrome for Developers’ Command Menu guide.
How to screenshot an entire news article on iPhone
Apple’s iPhone User Guide describes using the screenshot preview’s Full Page option for content beyond the screen, including an entire Safari webpage. The precise button appearance can depend on iPhone model and iOS version.
- In Safari, open the article and take a screenshot: press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone model with a Home button, press and release the Home and side buttons together.
- If the screenshot thumbnail appears, tap it to open the preview.
- Tap Full Page to capture beyond the visible screen.
- Check the preview and save the screenshot. Apple says screenshots are saved to the photo library.
If you need only the visible screen, you can keep the standard screenshot rather than selecting Full Page. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide.
What Windows screenshot shortcuts capture—and what they do not
Microsoft documents two useful Windows shortcuts, but neither is described as a scrolling or whole-webpage capture. Use them for a screen region or display capture, not as a substitute for a browser’s verified full-page feature.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
| Shortcut | What it captures | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows+Shift+S | A selected screen region | Clipboard |
| Windows+PrtScn | The full screen | PicturesScreenshots |
After Windows+Shift+S, paste the capture into an app if you need to save it as a file. To capture an article that extends beyond the screen, switch to a browser method that explicitly offers full-page capture. See Microsoft’s Windows keyboard-shortcut reference.
Or skip the browser setup
For a developer who needs a screenshot through an API, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one GET request. This cURL example captures a news page as WebP; replace the example URL with the article URL you are authorized to access. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. It accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Check the screenshot before relying on it
- Confirm scope: Make sure the file contains the entire article, selected passage, or visible area you intended to capture.
- Check legibility: Zoom in on headlines, small text, and any details that matter before sharing.
- Keep context: Store the source article URL and capture date alongside the image if you may need to locate or contextualize it later. This is a record-keeping practice, not a guarantee the page will remain available or unchanged.
- Keep the original: If you crop or annotate an image for easier reading, retain the uncropped capture when the full context may matter.
Troubleshooting common capture problems
The screenshot stops at the bottom of the visible screen
You likely used an ordinary screen capture or a selected-region tool. Choose Firefox’s Save full page or Developer Tools full-page capture, or use iPhone’s Full Page option in the screenshot preview. The Chrome area workflow described above is for a selected region, not the whole page.

Firefox does not show Take Screenshot
Context-menu labels can differ across versions and platforms. Try opening Developer Tools and enabling the full-page screenshot toolbar button in its settings, or use the Web Console helper documented by Mozilla.
Firefox saved over an earlier capture
The screenshot helper overwrites an existing image when the same filename is reused. Set a distinct value with --filename for each capture you want to keep.

Check whether DevTools is undocked. The documented area capture does not work in that state; dock DevTools and run the Command Menu workflow again.
The Windows shortcut did not save a full article
Windows+Shift+S selects a region and copies it to the clipboard; Windows+PrtScn saves the full display. Neither shortcut is Microsoft’s documented full-webpage workflow. Use a browser or device feature that explicitly supports full-page capture.

The saved image is missing text or is hard to read
Open the article in the browser again and check the exact region or page scope before recapturing. Inspect the resulting file at a readable zoom level; if a passage is small in a tall full-page image, make a separate capture of that passage for convenient reading while retaining the full-page version if it is needed.
FAQ
Does a screenshot prove that a news article is authentic?
No. A screenshot records an appearance, but it does not by itself verify who published the page or whether its contents were changed. Keep the source URL and capture date when context matters.
Can I assume it is lawful to republish a screenshot of a news story?
No general permission or jurisdiction-specific rule is established here. Capturing a page for personal reference and republishing it are different uses; check the rules that apply to your situation before publication.
Is a full-page screenshot the best format for reading one paragraph?
Usually not. A region capture is easier to read when only a specific passage is needed; use full-page capture when the surrounding article context is important.
