To capture an entire webpage as one tall image, use your browser’s built-in full-page screenshot command. In Firefox, right-click the page, select Take Screenshot, choose Save full page, then download or copy the PNG. In Microsoft Edge, open Screenshot (or press Ctrl+Shift+S), select Capture full page, and save or copy the result.
A full-page image is only one possible result. If you need an editable offline copy, save the webpage with its resource files. If you need a paginated document, print to PDF. The sections below show the correct workflow for each outcome, plus developer-oriented automation options.
Choose the output before you capture
“Capture the whole webpage” can mean three different things. Choosing the wrong one can lose links, images, layout, or print formatting.

Capture an entire webpage in Firefox
Use the normal screenshot interface
- Open the page and wait until the content you need is visible and settled. Expand accordions, load more results, or dismiss overlays before starting.
- Right-click an empty area of the page. On macOS, Control-click. Select Take Screenshot.
- In the capture interface, select Save full page in the upper-right corner. Do not choose Save visible; that option captures only the current viewport.
- Select Download to save a PNG in your normal downloads folder, or select Copy to put the image on the clipboard.
You can also open the same interface with Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Firefox also offers a selected-region capture and a capture of a page part that it highlights automatically.

When the page is longer than expected
Full-page capture can include content that is loaded only after scrolling. If sections are missing, scroll through the page once, wait for lazy-loaded images to appear, and run Save full page again. Freeze moving carousels or video where possible; the captured state is the state Firefox sees during the operation.
Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page. You can start Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or from Edge settings.
- Alternatively press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the Screenshot overlay, choose Capture full page.
- Review the resulting image, then use the overlay’s copy or save command.
Edge’s full-page feature captures content beyond the visible screen. Moving content such as GIFs or carousels can remain active while the capture is made, so pause animation when an exact frame matters. Microsoft notes that Screenshot availability and behavior can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for technical captures
Developer Tools are useful when you need an element capture, a delay, a device-pixel ratio, a chosen filename, or command-line-like repeatability.

Enable the full-page screenshot button
- Open Developer Tools.
- Open Developer Tools settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable the full-page screenshot button.
- Use the new toolbar button to capture the entire document or an individual element.
Use the Web Console helper
Firefox’s Web Console provides a :screenshot helper. Add --fullpage to capture the complete document. The helper also supports a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard output, and a CSS selector, allowing workflows such as “wait for the chart, then capture only this element.” Exact command syntax is shown by Firefox’s console help for the installed version.
This route is particularly useful for debugging responsive layouts: set the viewport and device-pixel ratio in responsive design mode, wait for the application to finish rendering, and then capture the page or selector.

Save a webpage for offline use instead of taking a screenshot
An image is a visual record, not a functioning copy. In Firefox, choose the browser menu’s Save Page As, then select the format that matches your goal.
Web page, complete
This saves an HTML file plus a new directory containing pictures and required supporting files. It is the best choice for offline viewing when images matter. The saved copy may not preserve the original HTML link structure, and scripts that depend on a live server can still fail offline.

This saves one HTML file without pictures. Mozilla documents it as the option that preserves the page’s link structure while omitting resource files.
Text files
This saves readable text without the original links or visual layout. Use it when the content, rather than the design or navigation, is what you need to archive.
Print an entire webpage to PDF
Choose printing when the deliverable should have pages, paper dimensions, headers, margins, or a stable document for distribution.

- In Edge, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose a PDF destination or Save as PDF.
- Set the page range, orientation, paper size, margins, and scaling in the print dialog.
- Enable Background graphics if colors or background images are part of the document’s meaning.
- Inspect print preview before saving. Elements can reflow, split across pages, or be omitted by print CSS.
On supported sites, Edge’s Immersive Reader can provide a less cluttered printing route, but it is not available on every page.
Prepare the page for a reliable full capture
- Wait for dynamic content: let fonts, images, charts, and client-rendered sections finish loading.
- Close obstructing UI: dismiss cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts, chat panels, and sticky notices that cover content you need.
- Expand hidden sections: “Read more,” accordions, tabs, and load-more controls usually must be opened manually.
- Set the correct viewport: resize the browser or use responsive design mode when documenting a mobile layout.
- Check the bottom: confirm that the footer and final lazy-loaded sections appear in the result.
- Respect access controls: do not attempt to bypass authentication, bot checks, or site restrictions. Capture only pages you are authorized to view.
Troubleshooting full-page screenshots
The result contains only the visible screen
You selected a viewport option rather than the full-page command. In Firefox, reopen Take Screenshot and choose Save full page. In Edge, choose Capture full page from Screenshot.
Images or sections are missing
The page probably lazy-loads content as you scroll, or rendering had not finished. Scroll through the document, wait for images and scripts, then capture again. For a page that requires a click, perform that click before starting the capture.
A fixed header appears repeatedly or covers text
Sticky elements are part of the live page. Temporarily collapse or hide the header with the site’s own controls, or use Firefox Developer Tools to capture a specific element. If the header is required for documentation, keep it and note that it is fixed-position content.
Animations show the wrong frame
Pause videos and carousels before capture. Edge specifically notes that moving GIFs and carousels can remain active during full-page capture, so a deterministic frame is not guaranteed.
The saved offline copy does not behave like the original
A complete webpage save is not a server clone. It can include resources while still losing server-side behavior, and Mozilla warns that link structure may change. Use PDF for a stable document or a screenshot for a visual record.

The browser command is unavailable
Update the browser, check that you are using a normal webpage tab rather than a restricted internal page, and try the documented keyboard shortcut. Edge feature availability can vary by device, market, and browser version.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Browser capture is simplest for a one-off page you are already viewing. It inherits the page’s current login state, viewport, extensions, and local rendering, so results can differ between machines. Automation is preferable when you need the same URL captured on a schedule, at several viewport sizes, or as part of a build pipeline.

For any method, define what “complete” means: a visual image, resources for offline browsing, or a paginated PDF. Record the browser and operating-system version when the screenshot is evidence for a bug or compliance task. For automated work, set an explicit wait condition, a timeout, and a failure policy; otherwise a fast response can capture an empty shell before the application renders.

Can a full-page screenshot preserve clickable links?
No. A PNG, JPEG, or WebP is an image. Use Firefox’s Web page, HTML only or Web page, complete format when preserving HTML navigation matters.
Why is my PDF split differently from the webpage?
PDF output follows print CSS and the selected paper size, margins, orientation, and scaling. Check print preview and adjust those settings before saving.
Which browser versions support these commands?
The documented labels and shortcuts apply to current Firefox and Edge interfaces, but menus and availability can change. Edge explicitly notes variation by device type, market, and browser version.
