In Firefox, open the page screenshot interface, choose Save full page, and download the image. This captures content below the visible browser window as one image. For a repeatable developer workflow, Firefox Developer Tools also provides a full-page screenshot button and the Web Console command screenshot <filename.png> --fullpage.
The instructions below are verified for Firefox. Other browsers use different menus and labels, so do not assume these steps apply to Chrome, Safari, Edge, or mobile browsers.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A viewport screenshot records only the portion currently visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot stitches the page from top to bottom into one image, including content that would normally require scrolling. Mozilla distinguishes entire-page, viewport, and element captures in its Firefox Developer Tools tips.
The result is an image file, not a PDF or a print layout. Page behavior can affect what appears: content that requires interaction, authentication, or a particular loading state may not be represented exactly as you expect. Mozilla’s documented workflows do not establish a universal method for lazy-loaded or dynamically scrolling pages, so inspect the output when those conditions matter.

Method 1: Firefox’s page screenshot interface
This is the simplest method when you want a one-off capture and do not need a custom filename.
- Open the complete webpage in Firefox and wait for the initial content to finish loading.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot interface for the page. Depending on your Firefox version and configuration, you may use the page screenshot control or the documented save flow. If you use a keyboard shortcut, Mozilla lists
Command+Son macOS andCtrl+Son Windows and Linux, but shortcut behavior can vary. - Choose Save full page. Do not choose a viewport-only option if you need content below the fold.
- Download or save the image when Firefox presents the capture.
Firefox names the saved file with a timestamp and the page title, according to Mozilla Support’s Take screenshots in Firefox documentation. The exact dialog and control placement can differ between Firefox releases; use the visible Save full page label as the decisive choice.
When this method is the best fit
- You need one full-page image quickly.
- You prefer visible controls over Developer Tools.
- A date-and-title filename is acceptable.
Method 2: Enable the Developer Tools screenshot button
Firefox Developer Tools includes an entire-page screenshot control, but Mozilla’s documented workflow says it is not enabled by default.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Developer Tools for the page.
- Open Developer Tools settings.
- Find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Return to the Developer Tools toolbar and select the new screenshot button.
- Firefox saves the capture in the browser’s Downloads directory.
These labels and the enablement step come from Mozilla’s Taking screenshots documentation. This route is useful when you already work in Developer Tools or want a control you can reuse during a debugging session.
Why the button may appear to be missing
The button is an optional toolbox control. If you cannot see it, reopen Developer Tools settings and check Available Toolbox Buttons; enabling the item adds it to the toolbar. A browser update can also rearrange controls, so rely on the label rather than a fixed icon position.

Method 3: Run the full-page command in the Web Console
The Web Console is the most explicit Firefox workflow. Mozilla documents this command:
screenshot <filename.png> --fullpage
- Open the target page in Firefox.
- Open Developer Tools and select the Web Console tab.
- Enter
screenshot <filename.png> --fullpage, replacing the filename with the name you want. - Press Enter and check the resulting download.
The --fullpage option instructs Firefox’s screenshot helper to capture the entire webpage instead of only the visible section. The command syntax is documented in Mozilla’s Developer Tools tips. Supplying a filename is useful for scripts or a series of captures because you can choose a stable naming convention.
Choosing among the Firefox workflows
| Workflow | Setup | Filename control | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page screenshot interface | Open the page screenshot UI | Firefox-generated timestamp and title | Fast, occasional captures |
| Developer Tools button | Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page | Not specified by Mozilla’s workflow | Developers who already use DevTools |
| Web Console command | Open Web Console and run a command | Optional filename argument | Repeatable, named captures |
Mozilla does not provide a benchmark showing that one of these methods is faster or produces better image quality. Choose based on discoverability, your comfort with Developer Tools, and whether naming the output matters.
Preparing a page before capture
- Navigate to the exact URL and wait for the page’s visible content to settle.
- Close menus, dialogs, and overlays that you do not want in the image.
- Confirm that you are signed in if the page is private and that the intended account view is displayed.
- Decide whether the browser’s current zoom and window state are appropriate; the documented methods capture the page as rendered in Firefox.
- After saving, open the image and check the top, middle, and bottom so a failed load or unexpected blank section does not go unnoticed.
There is no documented guarantee in the cited Firefox instructions that every script-generated, lazy-loaded, or infinite-scroll section will be loaded before capture. For pages with those behaviors, trigger the content yourself and verify the output rather than assuming the screenshot includes it.
Troubleshooting full-page captures
The image stops at the visible viewport
You likely selected a viewport capture. Reopen the screenshot interface and choose Save full page, or use the Web Console command with the --fullpage option. In Developer Tools, select the button explicitly labeled Take a screenshot of the entire page.

The Developer Tools button is not visible
Open Developer Tools settings and enable it under Available Toolbox Buttons. The documented workflow treats this as an optional control, so it will not appear until enabled.

Check that you are in Firefox’s Web Console, not a page text field or another browser console, and that the command includes a filename followed by --fullpage. Use a simple filename such as page.png while diagnosing syntax issues.
The saved file is difficult to find
The Developer Tools workflow saves to Firefox’s Downloads directory. The page screenshot interface uses a download name based on the timestamp and page title. Check Firefox’s download list and the configured Downloads folder.
Part of the page is blank or incomplete
Reload the page, wait for its content, and capture again. If the page requires scrolling, clicking, or authentication to reveal content, perform those actions first. The official workflows do not promise handling for every dynamic-loading pattern, so inspect the final image and consider capturing after each required state is visible.
The page is extremely tall
A full-page image can be very large and awkward to view or share. Consider whether a sequence of viewport captures, an element capture, or a PDF is more suitable for your purpose. Do not substitute print-to-PDF when the requirement is specifically one raster image.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
For a full-page image, call the API with your target URL. The parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.
cURL (see the ScreenshotNeo documentation):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture actions, selector hiding, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, request and resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable-TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. It also offers an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is on every plan, and yearly billing gives two months free. Sign up for the free plan to make your first captures without adding a card.

Operational and cost considerations
Browser capture
Firefox is convenient for a human at a desktop, but repeatability depends on the same browser profile, page state, viewport, authentication, and timing. Files are downloaded locally, so you must handle naming, storage, and sharing yourself.
API capture
An API is easier to integrate into build jobs, monitoring, documentation, or bulk workflows. Use waits, custom headers, cookies, and user-agent settings when the target requires them, and inspect the verdict and billing headers when a request fails or returns an unexpected page.

Image versus PDF
Use a raster image when a single image file is required. Use PDF output when selectable text, paper size, margins, landscape orientation, or page ranges are more important than an image canvas.
