Fastest answer: open the page in Firefox, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, and save or copy the result. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS. An extension is optional for the basic job, but useful when you need a toolbar workflow, annotations, PDF export, or other specialized controls.
Use Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot first
Firefox Screenshots can capture the entire document, not just the portion currently visible. It normally requires no installation or account.
- Open the page you want to capture in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page.
- Choose where to save the image, or use the copy option when you need it on the clipboard.
The same interface can capture the visible area, a region you drag around, or an automatically highlighted page element. For repeated use, add a toolbar button through Firefox menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar…, then place the Screenshot button where you want it.

When an extension is the better choice
Install an extension when the native tool does not match your workflow. Common reasons include a dedicated shortcut, one-click toolbar access, annotations, cropping, PDF output, multiple image formats, or splitting a very large capture into several files. Extensions generally assemble a page by scrolling through it, so their behavior can differ from Firefox’s native implementation on long pages, nested scroll containers, animated content, and pages that load data while you scroll.
Extension listings, permissions, compatibility, and privacy disclosures can change. Treat the following as examples from Mozilla Add-ons listings, not as independent product tests.
GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture
The listing describes clicking the extension icon or pressing Alt+Shift+P. It scrolls through visible sections, combines them into a result tab, and lists PNG, JPEG, and PDF export, optional editing, and splitting unusually large captures into separate images. The listing reported version 8.8 and a last update of September 3, 2026 when checked. Its description says no extra permissions are requested, while the permissions section separately lists access for named sites and optional download and browser-activity permissions. Inspect the actual Firefox install prompt rather than relying only on the description.

This listing describes full-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture, editing, and PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF export. It says capture and editing happen locally without an account, identifies clipboard and download permissions, and specifies desktop Firefox 140 or later. It also says browser-protected pages cannot be captured. These are listing and developer claims, not an external security audit. The listing reported version 2.1.4 and a last update of September 22, 2026 when checked.

How to install and use an extension safely
- Open Firefox Add-ons and search for the exact extension name. Check the developer name, update date, supported Firefox version, reviews, permissions, and data-use disclosures.
- Select Add to Firefox, read the permission prompt, and install only if the requested access fits the feature you need.
- Pin the extension from the Extensions (puzzle-piece) menu so its button is visible in the toolbar.
- Open the target page, wait for its content to finish loading, and click the extension button or use its documented shortcut.
- Follow the extension’s capture or export screen. Verify the bottom of the image, sticky elements, fonts, and lazy-loaded images before distributing it.
Do not assume a listing’s “local processing” or “no data collection” wording is a security guarantee. Mozilla’s WebExtensions documentation explains that the manifest permissions key requests special capabilities and that browsers can inform users about those requests. Compare every permission with the extension’s stated purpose and read the current privacy policy.
Firefox Developer Tools alternative
Developer Tools provides a built-in full-page option without an add-on:
- Open Developer Tools (for example, with F12 or the relevant Firefox menu command).
- Open Developer Tools Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Close settings. A screenshot icon appears in the toolbox; click it to save the image to Firefox’s Downloads directory.
The same Developer Tools documentation describes command-line screenshot options, including a full-page option. This route is useful for repeatable development workflows, while the normal Screenshot command is simpler for occasional captures.

Nested scroll areas and dynamic pages deserve special care. A scrolling extension may capture the main document while missing content inside an independently scrolling panel. A page that changes as it loads can produce seams, duplicated elements, or an image that does not represent one consistent moment. Freeze the page where possible, wait for network activity to settle, and inspect the result.

Permissions, privacy, and protected pages
Readers often ask why a screenshot extension requests access to data on websites. Full-page tools need to read or manipulate the tab, scroll it, or create a download; those capabilities can require broad host permissions. The permission name alone does not prove misuse, but it is a reason to compare the request with the extension’s documented features.
- Read the permission prompt at installation time, not just the store summary.
- Check whether the extension offers optional site access or can be limited to selected sites.
- Review the developer’s current data disclosure and privacy policy.
- Avoid capturing confidential pages unless the tool’s handling is appropriate for that information.
- Remember that browser-protected pages, such as some internal or restricted surfaces, may be unavailable to extensions.
Firefox’s tabs.captureVisibleTab() WebExtension API captures the visible tab; it is not a one-call full-page API. Full-page products use browser tooling, scrolling and assembly, or both.
Troubleshooting a blank, cropped, or broken capture
The “Take Screenshot” command is missing
Right-click an empty page area rather than a link, image, or form control. If the menu still lacks it, use the keyboard shortcut or add the Screenshot button through More Tools > Customize Toolbar….
The output stops before the bottom
Reload the page, wait for lazy-loaded content, and try again. For an extension, confirm that you selected its full-page mode rather than visible-area mode. Very long pages may exceed an extension’s practical memory or output limits; an extension that supports splitting large captures can help.

Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the page once before capturing so lazy images load. Disable aggressive content blocking only when you trust the page and understand the privacy trade-off. Check for nested scroll containers; their content may need a separate capture.
The image contains duplicated headers or seams
This is common when a scrolling extension encounters sticky navigation, animation, or a layout that changes between scroll positions. Pause animation where possible, close overlays, and compare the native Firefox tool with the extension.
The extension refuses to capture the page
Check the extension’s supported Firefox version and whether the page is browser-protected. Revisit the permission prompt and site-access settings. If the page requires authentication, capture only after confirming that the extension is acceptable for sensitive content.

The export button does nothing
Allow downloads for the extension if Firefox asks, check the Downloads directory, and try a smaller capture or a different format. A browser restart can clear a stuck extension tab, but reinstall only after checking that you can preserve any settings you need.

- Check the top, bottom, sticky navigation, cookie notices, and lazy-loaded images.
- Remove personal data or credentials visible in the page.
