To capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or choose Settings and more (…) > Screenshot, select Capture full page, then copy or save the result. Select Capture area when you need only part of the page.
Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool
Microsoft Edge used to label this feature Web Capture. Current Edge builds call it Screenshot; older instructions may still use the former name. Microsoft’s policy documentation, updated May 21, 2026, says the name was rebranded, while availability can vary by device, market and browser version.
Capture a full webpage
- Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the page you want to save. Wait for important images, menus and other content to finish loading.
- Open Settings and more (…) > Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also right-click the webpage and choose the Screenshot/Web Capture command when it is present. Microsoft documents these paths in its Edge screenshot guide.
- Choose Capture full page. Edge scrolls beyond the visible viewport and creates one image containing the page below the fold.
- Review the result. Use the pen or touch controls to draw highlights, notes or callouts, then choose the control to copy or save the image.
A full-page capture is useful for documentation, bug reports, design review and archiving a long article. It may include content that was loaded only after scrolling, so let lazy-loaded images and embedded sections appear before capturing.

Capture only part of a page
- Open Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S or the three-dot menu.
- Select Capture area.
- Drag around the section you need. Adjust the selection before confirming.
- Annotate, copy or save the image.
Area capture is preferable when a page contains private information, irrelevant navigation or a single chart you need to paste into another document.

Copy, annotate and save the result
After Edge creates the capture, its toolbar lets you mark it up with a pen or touch input. Add arrows, underlines or short notes before sharing. Choose Copy to place the image on the clipboard, then paste it into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, an email or an issue tracker. Choose Save to keep an image file locally. The available controls and exact file dialog can differ by Edge version and device.
What to do when Screenshot is missing
- Use the shortcut: Press Ctrl+Shift+S while the webpage has focus.
- Check the menu: Open Settings and more (…) and look for Screenshot, not only “Web Capture.”
- Try the page context menu: Right-click an empty area of the webpage and look for Screenshot/Web Capture.
- Update or check the build: Microsoft notes that functionality can vary by browser version, device and market. Managed work or school policies may also hide commands.
- Restart Edge: Close all Edge windows and reopen the browser, then try the command again.
If none of these paths exists, use DevTools as the technical fallback below.
Capture a full page with Edge DevTools
DevTools exposes screenshot commands that are useful when the regular workflow fails or when you need a technical, repeatable path.

- Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (on some keyboards you may need the function-key modifier).
- Open the DevTools command menu or its More options menu.
- Choose Capture screenshot for the current viewport, or Capture full size screenshot to include content outside the visible viewport.
- Save the generated image from the browser’s download prompt.
DevTools is less approachable than the normal Screenshot command and is designed for developers. Its full-size command is especially useful for diagnosing pages where the standard capture does not include the complete document.

Common problems and fixes
The capture stops at the visible screen
Confirm that you selected Capture full page, rather than Capture area. For a technical fallback, use DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot. Pages with unusual scrolling containers may not expose all content as one document; capture the relevant container as an area or use the page’s own print/export feature.
Images or sections are blank
Some sites load images only after scrolling, require interaction, or render content inside embedded frames. Wait for the page to settle, scroll through it once, and retry. If a section is blocked by a sign-in wall, consent dialog or bot check, Edge cannot legitimately capture content you have not been allowed to view.
The shortcut does nothing
Click the webpage first and press Ctrl+Shift+S again. A managed device, another application’s shortcut, or an older Edge build may intercept it. Use the three-dot menu or right-click command instead.

Pause animations, close transient menus and wait for advertisements or live widgets to settle. For an especially dynamic page, capture a selected area or use DevTools after the layout has stabilized. A screenshot records one visual state; it is not a copy of the page’s interactive behavior.

Text is too small in the saved image
Capture the relevant area instead of the entire page, increase Edge zoom before capturing, or use the page’s print/PDF export when the goal is readable text rather than a visual record. Increasing zoom changes the layout, so check that no important content is clipped.
Privacy information appears in the image
Review the result before sharing. Area capture can avoid unrelated account details, and Edge’s pen tools can cover information, but redaction drawn on an image is not a substitute for removing sensitive data before distribution. Do not upload confidential pages to third-party services without authorization.
