How to Cancel Xbox Game Pass and Stop the Next Renewal Charge

To stop another Xbox Game Pass renewal charge, sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription at Services & subscriptions, select Manage beside Game Pass, and follow the option to turn off recurring billing or cancel. Then check the subscription details for its status and end date.

How to cancel Xbox Game Pass

1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase Game Pass.
2. Find the Game Pass subscription and select Manage.
3. Follow the option shown to turn off recurring billing or cancel, then complete the on-screen flow. The available choices can vary by account and purchase.

Microsoft says turning off recurring billing prevents future renewal charges while leaving the subscription usable through the remaining prepaid period. Microsoft Helps’ Xbox cancellation video, published November 13, 2020, puts it this way: “With recurring billing turned off, your subscription will expire when you’ve used up all the remaining time you’ve prepaid.”

How to confirm Game Pass will not renew

Return to the subscription details after completing the cancellation flow. Check the displayed status and end date. If the control says Turn on recurring billing, recurring billing is already off; the subscription should expire on the date shown rather than renew. If you do not see an option to turn recurring billing off, use the displayed status to determine whether it is already disabled.

If Game Pass is missing from your Microsoft account

First check that you are signed in to the Microsoft account used for the purchase. If the subscription still does not appear, identify the billing provider shown on your receipt or subscription record and manage it through that provider. Microsoft’s refund guidance says purchases billed through Apple App Store or Google Play must be handled with the relevant store. A retailer or other billing partner may have its own cancellation route as well.

Does canceling Game Pass get a refund?

Turning off recurring billing stops future renewals; it does not by itself guarantee a refund for a charge already made. An immediate end-and-refund option may appear for eligible accounts or purchases, but it is not available in every case. Follow the options and eligibility terms shown in your Microsoft account, or contact Apple, Google, or the other billing provider if that provider handled the purchase.
