Cancel the subscriptions that block a country or region change, then wait until each current billing period ends. Cancelling does not normally remove the blocker immediately. Apple’s current name is Apple Account (the account formerly called Apple ID), so the same process applies even if your device still shows “Apple ID” in some places.
On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, select a subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. After the subscription expires, clear the other country-change requirements—such as account balance, pending rentals, refunds, or Family Sharing—before selecting the new country.
Why you must cancel and wait
Apple ties subscriptions to the country or region in which they were purchased. A subscription can therefore prevent a country change while it remains active, even if you have already decided not to renew it. Apple’s country-change guidance says to cancel subscriptions that block the change and then wait until the end of the subscription period. The end date, not the moment you tap Cancel, is what matters.

When you cancel, you normally keep access until the date already paid for. For example, cancelling a monthly service halfway through its cycle usually leaves it usable until the displayed expiration date. Only after that date has passed should you try the region-change process again. If you started a trial, Apple Support says to cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends if you do not want it to renew. That 24-hour instruction is specifically for avoiding a trial renewal; it does not eliminate the separate requirement to wait for a subscription period to finish before changing regions.

Make a list of every active subscription before you begin. A single overlooked service can keep the country setting locked, and some services—such as Apple One or iCloud+—also affect stored data and shared benefits when they end.
Cancel on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
The Settings route is the quickest way to cancel subscriptions billed through Apple. The same basic path is documented for Apple Vision Pro.
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions. Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode if prompted.
- Under Active, select the subscription that could block the move.
- Tap Cancel Subscription (or Cancel Free Trial for a trial), then confirm. Scroll down if the button is not immediately visible.
Open the subscription again after confirming. A red expiration message or the absence of a Cancel button means Apple considers it already cancelled. Note the exact expiration date shown there; that is the earliest date on which the subscription-related blocker can clear.

- Cancel Subscription is visible: the plan is still set to renew. Tap it and confirm.
- A red “Expires” date appears: renewal has been turned off. You retain access until that date.
- No subscription appears: the charge may belong to another Apple Account, a family member, or a company that bills outside Apple. Use the checks in the troubleshooting section rather than subscribing again or repeatedly signing out.
Cancel on a Mac
For an Apple-billed subscription on macOS, use the App Store account associated with the purchase.
- Open the App Store.
- Click your name in the lower-left corner. If you are not signed in, sign in with the Apple Account that receives the charge.
- Click Account Settings or View Information, depending on the macOS version.
- Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage.
- Select the subscription, click Edit, choose Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Verify that the listing now shows an expiration date rather than a next billing date. If the subscription is missing, the App Store account is probably not the account that purchased it.
Cancel on Windows
Apple directs Windows users to manage Apple-billed subscriptions in the Apple Music or Apple TV app. The labels can vary slightly by app release, but the account path is the same.
- Open Apple Music or Apple TV for Windows.
- Open your account menu and choose Account Settings (or the equivalent account view).
- Find Subscriptions and click Manage next to it.
- Choose the subscription, click Edit, select Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Return to the subscription-management screen to make sure renewal is off. Keep the displayed end date with your moving checklist.

Cancel when billing runs through Android, the web, or another provider
Apple Music or Apple TV billed through Google Play
If you subscribed to Apple Music or Apple TV in an Android app and selected Google Play billing, Apple does not control the renewal. Open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, choose Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, select the service, and tap Cancel subscription. The Google Play expiration date is the date to track.
Apple-billed subscriptions managed on the web
For subscriptions billed by Apple, sign in at account.apple.com with the purchasing Apple Account and open the account’s subscription-management area. Follow the cancellation prompts and confirm that an expiration date is shown. This option is useful when you no longer have the original device.
Carrier, app-developer, or other company billing
Some services use Apple software but charge through a mobile carrier, a cable provider, a developer’s website, or another payment company. Those subscriptions will not necessarily appear in Apple’s Subscriptions list. Cancel them with the company shown on your receipt or statement, and obtain that provider’s end date before attempting a region change.
If the subscription is not listed
Do not assume that a missing listing means there is no active renewal. Identify the billing account in this order:
- Search every email inbox for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”. Open the most recent receipt and note the Apple Account shown on it.
- Sign in to Subscriptions with that exact account. An email address used for iCloud, purchases, or Family Sharing may differ from the address you first tried.
- If the receipt belongs to a family member, ask that person to cancel from their own account. Apple says you cannot cancel another family member’s subscription yourself.
- If there is no Apple receipt, inspect the bank or card statement for the merchant name. Contact that billing company or your carrier and request cancellation.
Keep the cancellation confirmation or a screenshot of the expiration date. It gives you a reference if the country-change screen still reports an active subscription after the stated period.
Country-change checklist: clear every other blocker
Subscriptions are only one possible reason Apple may refuse a country or region change. Complete each applicable item before you retry.
| Requirement | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Active blocking subscriptions | Cancel them and wait for every current period to end. | Cancellation alone does not immediately satisfy Apple’s region requirement. |
| Apple Account balance | Spend the remaining balance. If it is less than the price of one item, contact Apple Support to clear it. | Apple may require a zero balance before the account can move. |
| Memberships and pre-orders | Wait for memberships, pre-orders, movie rentals, and Season Passes to complete or expire. | Pending entitlements are tied to the current storefront. |
| Pending refunds | Wait until an Apple refund has finished processing. | A refund in progress can prevent the change. |
| Family Sharing | Leave the Family Sharing group, or resolve the family arrangement before changing regions. | Participation can block a country or region change. |
| Destination payment method | Prepare a valid payment method and billing address for the new country if Apple requests them. | The new storefront may require local payment details. |
| Content you need later | Redownload apps, music, films, shows, and books that you may want available offline or in the future. | Store availability and licensing differ by country. |
Spend or clear a small remaining balance
Use the balance for an eligible purchase before changing regions. Apple’s guidance specifically says to contact Apple Support when the remaining amount is below the price of a single item; do not buy an unwanted item merely to force the balance to zero.

Resolve pending rentals, passes, and refunds
Check the Apple TV and App Store areas for movie rentals, Season Passes, pre-orders, memberships, or refund requests that have not completed. A rental may remain active until its viewing window ends, while a pre-order remains attached to the current storefront until it is fulfilled or cancelled.

If you participate in Family Sharing, the group relationship may need to change before the account can move. Coordinate with the organizer first, because leaving can affect shared purchases, subscriptions, storage, and access to other family benefits.
Apple One and iCloud+ require a data check
Apple One bundles services, and iCloud+ can increase your storage allowance. Before cancelling either, review how much iCloud storage you use and which family members rely on shared services. Apple provides separate guidance on what happens to stored iCloud information when iCloud+ ends. A lower storage tier can affect syncing and backups if your stored amount exceeds the new limit.
After the country change, Apple says you can resubscribe after updating billing details if the service is available in the new location. Availability, pricing, storage tiers, and included services can differ, so do not assume the same bundle will reappear unchanged.
Wait, then verify that the account is ready
Create a simple timeline using the latest expiration date among the subscriptions you cancelled. On that date, verify all of the following:
- Each former subscription shows an expiration date rather than an upcoming renewal.
- Your Apple Account balance is spent or has been cleared by Apple Support.
- No memberships, pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, or refunds remain pending.
- You are no longer blocked by Family Sharing.
- You have the destination country’s payment method and billing address available if requested.
If a subscription period has ended but the region screen still refuses the change, sign out only when Apple’s troubleshooting instructions require it; signing out repeatedly can make it harder to identify which account owns a purchase. First compare the account shown in the receipt with the account currently signed in to Media & Purchases.

What changes after you move
The App Store and media catalogs are storefront-specific. An app, song, film, show, or book available in one country may not be offered in another. Download items you need before moving, but remember that downloading does not guarantee future re-download rights if licensing changes.
Subscriptions may have different prices, taxes, renewal dates, or included features in the destination. A service that is unavailable there cannot be renewed until it becomes available, and a replacement subscription may need to be purchased under the new storefront. Keep copies of important documents, receipts, and downloaded files outside Apple’s services when you need long-term access.

The Cancel button is missing
Look for a red expiration message. That indicates cancellation is already complete. If neither a Cancel button nor an expiration date appears, check that you opened the subscription under the Apple Account that received the charge, then check the receipt and payment statement for another billing company.
The subscription ended, but Apple still blocks the region change
Confirm that the displayed expiration date has passed in the account’s time zone, then check the balance, pending purchases, refunds, and Family Sharing conditions. A different active subscription may be the actual blocker. Review the complete Subscriptions list rather than only the service you first cancelled.
The charge is from a family member’s account
The family member who made the purchase must cancel it. Ask them to follow the device or web steps while signed in to their own Apple Account. Your account cannot cancel another person’s subscription.
The charge is not from Apple
Use the merchant name on the bank or card statement to identify the provider. Carrier-billed and Google Play-billed subscriptions must be cancelled through those providers, and their systems—not Apple’s subscription screen—supply the final expiration date.

The destination storefront may require a locally valid payment method and billing address. Check the country’s accepted payment types and use details that accurately match the account holder. If you cannot meet that requirement, the country change cannot be completed through the normal process.
A practical order of operations
- List every subscription and identify who bills each one.
- Cancel Apple-billed subscriptions from the appropriate Apple Account; cancel Google Play, carrier, or provider plans with their biller.
- Record each expiration date and wait until the latest blocking period ends.
- Spend or clear the Apple Account balance and resolve pending purchases, rentals, passes, memberships, and refunds.
- Check Family Sharing and prepare destination payment details.
- Redownload content that may not be available in the new storefront.
- Change the country or region from Settings, Apple Music or Apple TV, or account.apple.com.
- Review subscriptions and media availability after the move before purchasing replacements.
This sequence follows Apple Support’s country guidance dated October 5, 2026 and its subscription guidance dated September 29, 2026. It separates the action that stops renewal from the waiting period that actually clears the country-change restriction.
