Cancel your Modern Warfare 4 preorder through the seller that took your order: PlayStation Support for a PlayStation Store purchase, the relevant storefront for an Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net order, or the retailer on your receipt for a physical copy. The rules differ by seller and region. In the United States, PlayStation’s current guidance makes refund eligibility depend in part on whether the game has started downloading or streaming.
First, identify where you placed the preorder
- Check your receipt or order history. Confirm whether the order is from PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, Battle.net, or a physical retailer. Activision lists digital preorder options through official storefronts and physical PS5 and Xbox Series X editions through select retailers. See Activision’s preorder guide and Modern Warfare 4 editions.
- Check the order’s status. For a PlayStation digital preorder, see whether the main game has begun downloading or streaming. For a physical copy, check whether the retailer still allows cancellation before processing or shipment.
- Contact the seller directly. Use that seller’s current cancellation or refund support process. Activision is not the right contact for an order placed with a storefront or retailer.
- Save the result. Keep the cancellation reference and check the refund status until the seller confirms the outcome or the money appears.
Cancel a PlayStation Store digital preorder in the US
PlayStation’s US support guidance, checked October 7, 2026, says you can request a refund for a paid digital preorder before release, or within 14 days of purchase, if the main content has not started downloading or streaming. The applicable request window depends on when you preordered:
- More than 14 days before release: You can request a refund up to release, provided the main content has not started downloading or streaming.
- 14 days or less before release: You can request a refund within 14 days of the preorder purchase, subject to the same no-download-or-streaming condition.
To make the request, contact PlayStation Support using its US preorder cancellation guidance. Automatic downloads can begin if they are enabled, so check the console’s download settings and the game’s status before submitting a request. PlayStation also says that canceling can remove access to preorder bonuses already made available before release. A refund goes to the original payment method where possible; certain payment methods are refunded to the PlayStation wallet. These terms are specific to the US support page and should not be assumed to apply in other countries.
Cancel an Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net preorder
Contact the storefront that accepted the payment and follow its current refund process. The sources available here do not establish a single current cancellation rule for Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net across all regions, so do not assume that PlayStation’s 14-day guidance or download condition applies to them. Check that storefront’s policy for your country and order before relying on a deadline or refund outcome.

Cancel a physical preorder
For a physical copy, contact the retailer named on your order confirmation or receipt. Activision confirms that physical editions are offered through select retailers for PS5 and Xbox Series X, but its editions information does not set those retailers’ cancellation or refund terms. Check the retailer’s order status and ask whether cancellation is still available, especially if processing or shipment has begun.
The Call of Duty Store’s cancellation information concerns gear merchandise, not game preorders sold by other retailers. It therefore does not establish the rules for your physical game order.

Release date and policy limits
Activision’s preorder guide, published May 28, 2026 and updated July 23, 2026, lists October 23, 2026 as Modern Warfare 4’s launch date. The date can help you understand the timing in PlayStation’s US guidance, but it does not create a universal cancellation deadline: the seller, region, payment method, and order status all matter.
