To estimate runtime, multiply the station’s rated capacity by a realistic usable-energy factor, then divide by your device’s average wattage:

Estimated runtime (hours) = 1,024Wh × usable-energy factor ÷ average load (W)

For AC loads, a factor between 0.80 and 0.85 is a practical planning range. That puts a steady 100W device at roughly 8.2 to 8.7 hours—not the ideal 10.24 hours—because the inverter and the station’s internal electronics consume some energy. The result is an estimate, not a guaranteed runtime.

Start with the distinction that prevents most mistakes: Wh versus W

Watt-hours (Wh) measure stored energy. A 1,024Wh battery theoretically contains enough energy to supply 1 watt for 1,024 hours, 100 watts for 10.24 hours, or 1,024 watts for one hour.

Watts (W) measure the rate at which a device consumes power. The runtime calculation divides available watt-hours by the device’s average watts. Capacity and output power are different specifications: a station can store 1,024Wh yet be unable to operate a device whose running or startup demand exceeds its inverter rating.

For every load, check both:

  • Energy requirement: how many watt-hours the device uses over the planned period.
  • Output requirement: whether the station’s AC, DC or USB port can supply the device’s running and startup power.

A heater labeled 1,500W may fit within a high-output inverter but empty a 1,024Wh battery quickly. A small router may run for many hours but still need the correct voltage and connector. Runtime and compatibility must be evaluated separately.

The practical formula for a 1,024Wh station

For a device with a steady load, use:

Runtime (hours) = 1,024Wh × efficiency or usable-energy factor ÷ device power (W)

The ideal calculation assumes every stored watt-hour reaches the device. Real systems lose energy in the inverter, voltage conversion and the station’s own electronics, and manufacturers may reserve part of the battery to protect it. For an AC device, two manufacturer-published planning assumptions are useful reference points:

  • Anker’s September 9, 2026 guidance describes subtracting approximately 10–15% for inverter losses. That corresponds roughly to a 0.90–0.85 factor before any additional model-specific reserve or overhead.
  • Jackery’s FAQ gives the approximate formula “Runtime (hours)=Battery Capacity (Wh)×0.8/Device Power Consumption (W).”

Because these are general manufacturer guidelines rather than a universal laboratory efficiency value, use 0.80 for a conservative quick estimate or 0.85 for a less conservative estimate unless your station’s manual provides a measured factor for the exact output and operating mode.

Ideal arithmetic is 1,024 ÷ 100 = 10.24 hours. Applying the two practical factors gives:

60W device

The ideal result is 1,024 ÷ 60 = 17.1 hours. Practical estimates are 14.5 hours at 0.85 and 13.7 hours at 0.80.

150W device

The ideal result is 6.8 hours. At the practical factors, the estimates are approximately 5.8 hours (0.85) and 5.5 hours (0.80). Before connecting it, verify that the station’s continuous AC output is at least 150W and that its surge specification covers startup demand.

10W 102.4 hours 87.0 hours 81.9 hours Useful for low-power networking or monitoring equipment; standby draw can become significant over several days.
60W 17.1 hours 14.5 hours 13.7 hours Estimate assumes a constant 60W, not a device that sleeps or cycles.

1,000W 1.02 hours 0.87 hours 0.82 hours Only suitable if the station’s continuous rating supports 1,000W and ventilation requirements are met.

Every value in the table is arithmetic from the stated assumptions, not a measured runtime for a particular product.

How to calculate a device that does not run continuously

Nameplate wattage is often a maximum or nominal figure. Refrigerators, pumps, compressors, heat pumps, laser printers and many chargers switch on and off. For those devices, calculate an average rather than treating the highest label value as continuous consumption.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a measured average when possible

  1. Connect the AC device to a plug-in electricity meter, then connect the meter to the power station’s AC outlet.
  2. Record watts while the device is operating normally. For a cycling load, record watt-hours over a representative period that includes several on/off cycles.
  3. Divide measured watt-hours by the number of hours observed to obtain average watts. For example, 240Wh consumed over four hours equals a 60W average load.
  4. Put that average into the runtime formula and keep a separate check for the device’s highest running and startup wattage.

A meter improves the input to the calculation; it does not remove inverter losses, battery reserve or startup limitations. If the device’s behavior changes with weather, temperature or workload, measure under the conditions in which you intend to use it.

When you only have a label

Use the stated wattage as a conservative continuous-load estimate if you cannot measure the device. A 65W laptop adapter does not prove that the laptop constantly draws 65W: charging, screen brightness, processor activity and sleep states change consumption. Conversely, a compressor’s running label may not include its brief starting surge. Treat the label as a starting point and state the uncertainty in your plan.

AC, DC and USB outputs do not share one universal factor

An AC appliance normally draws energy through the station’s inverter. A USB-C, USB-A or DC-barrel device may use a different conversion path and port limit. Therefore, do not automatically apply an AC 0.80 factor to every output.

  • AC: use the station’s inverter guidance, verify continuous wattage and check surge capability.
  • DC outputs: confirm voltage, polarity, connector type and the port’s maximum current or wattage. A direct DC connection can avoid one conversion stage, but its actual efficiency is model-specific.
  • USB: check the negotiated charging profile. A USB-C port’s advertised maximum is not necessarily what the device will draw continuously.

If the manual supplies separate runtime or efficiency information for a particular port, use that information instead of a generic factor. Otherwise, calculate with a conservative factor and regard the answer as an estimate.

Output ratings, startup surge and the 1,024Wh example specification

The official DJI Power 1000 specification page illustrates why capacity and output must be read as separate fields. It lists a 1,024Wh capacity for model variants DYM1000L and DYM1000H and up to 2,200W continuous AC output under the stated conditions. The page identifies a 2,000W continuous limit for the Japan version and distinguishes maximum and peak output figures. Regional model and operating-condition qualifications apply.

Use the exact model’s manual when checking a load. A 1,024Wh rating alone cannot tell you whether a device will start. Add the wattage of devices that will run simultaneously, compare that total with the continuous AC rating, and then check each device’s startup or surge demand against the station’s peak specification and duration.

Typical compatibility failures

  • Enough energy, insufficient output: the battery may theoretically run a load for hours, but the inverter shuts down because the appliance exceeds continuous wattage.
  • Running wattage is acceptable, startup is not: a motor or compressor can briefly draw several times its running power. If the station’s surge limit is lower, the appliance may click, stall or trigger overload protection.
  • Port mismatch: the voltage, polarity, connector or USB profile is wrong even though the wattage calculation looks safe.
  • Multiple devices: add simultaneous loads, including chargers and the station’s own AC overhead, rather than calculating each device in isolation.

Why your actual runtime can be shorter or longer

The formula is deliberately simple; the real result depends on conditions that vary by station and device:

  • Inverter and conversion losses: AC output requires conversion, and the loss is not necessarily a fixed percentage at every load.
  • Station overhead and reserve: displays, battery management, cooling and protection circuits consume energy; manufacturers may leave a reserve that the user cannot access.
  • Load level: a very small load can be disproportionately affected by fixed overhead, while a high load may increase losses or trigger thermal limits.
  • Battery condition: age, storage history and charge level can change usable capacity.
  • Temperature: extreme cold or heat can reduce available performance and may activate protection behavior.
  • Changing device demand: a computer, refrigerator or pump can alternate between high and low consumption.
  • Connections and accessories: extension leads, adapters and chargers add their own conversion losses.

These factors explain why a calculation should be presented as a range or planning estimate. They do not justify replacing the station’s model-specific limits with a universal efficiency number.

Manufacturer examples: useful context, not guarantees

Anker’s September 9, 2026 guide gives approximate examples of a 1,024Wh station running a mini fridge for about 8–10 hours and a CPAP for more than 20 hours. Those figures are Anker estimates tied to the devices and operating assumptions in its guide; they are not independent tests or universal runtimes for every refrigerator or CPAP. A different CPAP pressure setting, humidifier, heated hose, refrigerator duty cycle or station model can produce a different result.

Use such examples to sanity-check your own calculation, then substitute your measured average wattage and the exact station’s instructions.

A repeatable calculation procedure

  1. Identify the exact station. Record model, region, battery capacity, continuous AC rating, peak or surge rating, port limits and any stated efficiency or runtime method.
  2. Identify the exact device setup. Include the appliance, charger, dock, monitor, heated accessories and anything else powered at the same time.
  3. Determine average watts. Measure with a meter when practical. For cycling devices, measure watt-hours over a representative interval and divide by hours.
  4. Check startup demand. Find the device’s inrush or surge requirement in its manual or specification. If it is unknown, do not assume the running wattage is sufficient.
  5. Select a factor. For AC, use the exact manual’s guidance. If none is available, calculate both 0.80 and 0.85 to show a planning range.
  6. Calculate runtime. Multiply 1,024 by the factor and divide by average watts.
  7. Apply a safety margin. Plan to recharge before the displayed battery percentage reaches zero, especially for medical equipment, refrigeration or unattended operation.
  8. Validate in the real setup. Run a supervised trial, note the station’s displayed input and output, and compare elapsed time with the estimate. Stop if the station, cable or appliance becomes unusually hot or reports an overload.

Planning examples beyond a single device

Several constant loads

Suppose a laptop uses 65W, a monitor 35W and a network switch 10W. Their simultaneous average is 110W, not three separate runtimes. At 0.85, the estimate is 1,024 × 0.85 ÷ 110 = approximately 7.9 hours; at 0.80 it is approximately 7.4 hours. Include chargers’ conversion losses in the measured or estimated load, and verify that the combined wattage remains below the station’s continuous output rating.

A cycling refrigerator

If a meter records 360Wh over six hours, the average is 60W. The energy estimate is therefore about 13.7–14.5 hours using the two practical factors. That does not guarantee the refrigerator will start: the compressor’s surge must still fit the station’s peak capability. Warm ambient conditions can also increase duty cycle, raising the average above the measured example.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A CPAP setup

Calculate the complete setup, not just the CPAP blower. Add the humidifier, heated hose and any manufacturer power brick if they will be used. If the setup averages 40W, the arithmetic gives about 20.5–21.8 hours at 0.80–0.85. Turning off heating can materially change the average, so measure the configuration you actually intend to sleep with.

How to interpret a result safely

Round down for planning. If your calculation says 8.2 hours, do not schedule an eight-hour critical load with no reserve for a cold night, a worn battery or a brief high-power cycle. For noncritical electronics, the range may be adequate. For refrigeration, medical equipment or communications, use the exact model manual, test the complete setup and arrange a recharge option where possible.

Do not infer remaining runtime by simply multiplying the displayed percentage by the original 1,024Wh rating. The display may use its own estimate, and the percentage can reflect temperature, recent load and battery-management limits. Recalculate from measured behavior if the displayed estimate conflicts with observed operation.

Quick troubleshooting when the result looks wrong

The station shuts down immediately

Check for overload, an incompatible port, a short circuit or a startup surge. Reduce simultaneous loads, use the correct output mode and compare the appliance’s peak demand with the station’s surge specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Runtime is much shorter than the calculation

Measure actual watts at the station outlet, include every connected accessory, and check whether the device cycles at a higher duty cycle than assumed. Confirm that you used the correct regional model and a realistic factor rather than ideal division alone.

Runtime is longer than expected

Your device may average less than its label, enter sleep states or spend much of its time off. Measure watt-hours over a longer representative interval and use that average for future estimates.

The AC estimate differs from a USB estimate

That is plausible because the outputs use different conversion paths and fixed overhead. Apply port-specific limits and guidance, and compare measurements made on the same output you plan to use.

What information to collect for a precise estimate

  • Exact station model and regional version.
  • Rated capacity in Wh and the manual’s usable-capacity or efficiency guidance.
  • Continuous AC output, peak or surge output and surge duration.
  • Output type, voltage, current and wattage limits for the port you will use.
  • Device running wattage, average wattage or measured watt-hours.
  • Startup or inrush demand for motors, compressors and heating equipment.
  • Ambient temperature, battery age and whether other devices will run simultaneously.

With those inputs, the 1,024Wh label becomes a useful starting point instead of a promise of a fixed number of hours.
