SpaceX is now publicly traded. Its Class A common stock trades under ticker SPCX on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas. For ordinary listed shares, search SPCX in a brokerage account that supports the relevant U.S. market and confirm the security details before placing an order. A private secondary-market interest is a different investment, with separate eligibility, transfer, liquidity and disclosure issues.
How to buy publicly listed SpaceX shares
SpaceX says its Class A common stock began trading on June 12, 2026, under ticker SPCX, and that its IPO closed on June 15, 2026. The company’s IPO closing announcement identifies the listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas.
- Open or use a brokerage account that supports trading U.S.-listed shares. Which providers offer access, and whether you qualify, depends on your location and the broker’s rules.
- Search for SPCX in the broker’s own interface. Confirm that the result is SpaceX Class A common stock and that the market shown is the one you intend to trade.
- Review the broker’s current quote, trading hours, order preview, fees and any account-specific restrictions before submitting an order. This article does not provide a live price or recommend an order type.
- Check the order details before confirming. A similar name, private fund interest or tokenized product is not automatically the same security as listed SPCX shares.
The listing announcement establishes that the shares trade publicly; it does not establish that every broker or investor in every country has access. Verify availability and terms directly with your provider.
What “secondary market” means now
The title’s private-market wording reflects a route that is distinct from buying exchange-listed stock. A private secondary transaction generally involves a transfer of an existing holder’s private-company shares or an interest in a vehicle that holds them. The precise legal instrument matters: an interest in a fund or contractual or tokenized exposure may not give you direct ownership of SpaceX Class A shares.

Private-market platforms describe general ways investors may access private-company interests, including purchases from existing holders. For example, Nasdaq Private Market’s page for individual accredited investors explains private-share routes, while Forge’s secondary-marketplace explainer discusses transfers and eligibility. These general descriptions do not establish that SpaceX shares are currently offered on a platform, that a transfer is allowed, or that SpaceX endorses a particular offering. Confirm inventory and transaction documents with the platform and relevant parties.

Risks and restrictions on private placements
The SEC’s Regulation D investor bulletin warns that private placements can be risky and difficult to resell. Depending on the offering and exemption, investors may receive limited disclosure, and some circumstances may involve no disclosure requirements. Rule 506(b) and Rule 506(c), for example, have different conditions involving solicitation and purchaser qualifications; the actual exemption and offering documents determine what applies.

Private share transfers may also be constrained by issuer rules, including rights of first refusal that can delay or prevent a sale. That is a general private-market risk, not a statement that any particular SpaceX transfer is currently permitted or blocked. Before considering a private transaction, read the documents for the exact security, eligibility requirements, transfer approvals, fees, valuation method and resale limits.
Historical IPO figures are not a current quote
SpaceX reported that its IPO closed with 638,888,888 Class A shares and approximately $85.7 billion in gross proceeds. Those are figures for the offering, not a measure of current market value. Nasdaq reported that SPCX opened at $150 on June 12, 2026, compared with the historical $135 IPO price; neither figure should be treated as today’s quote.
