Amazon Japan’s refreshed Kindle lineup went on sale or opened for preorder at Amazon.co.jp on October 1, 2026. The Kindle 16GB, Kindle 32GB and Amazon Kids Kindle were listed as available to buy that day; the new Paperwhite, Colorsoft and other listed models were preorder items with shipping planned for November 11. Prices below are Amazon Japan’s announced tax-inclusive prices, not confirmed live prices. Check the product listings for current stock, pricing and delivery dates before ordering.
Which new Kindles could you order on October 1?
This is the Japan lineup and Amazon.co.jp order status announced by Amazon Japan on October 1, 2026. It is not a US or worldwide offer: prices, availability and model generations can differ between marketplaces. Amazon’s support documentation cautions that not every Kindle generation is available in every marketplace; use the Japan product listings for Japan orders and identify your existing device before buying an accessory.

How to choose between the models
The main decision is whether you want a compact monochrome reader, a larger monochrome screen, or color for supported content. Storage, the Signature Edition accessory fit, and the Kids bundle are additional differentiators.

Choose Kindle 16GB for the lighter entry model
Amazon describes the 16GB Kindle as the lightest in the series and says book display is about 30% faster than its predecessor. Amazon’s stated battery maximum is up to six weeks. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results, and battery life varies with use.
Choose Kindle 32GB for more storage and an aluminum back
The 32GB model is the first standard Kindle in this lineup with 32GB storage and has an aluminum back, according to Amazon. Its stated maximum battery life is also up to six weeks, subject to use.

Choose Paperwhite for a monochrome screen with water resistance
Amazon says Paperwhite retains IPX8 water resistance and gives it a maximum battery-life estimate of up to 12 weeks. That figure is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise for every reading pattern.
Choose Colorsoft for supported color content
Colorsoft has a 7-inch color display for supported color content and five color-highlight options. Amazon states up to eight weeks of battery life. Whether color is useful depends on the books and other supported material you read; the color display does not mean every Kindle book is available in color.

Consider Kids models for the included child-focused bundle
Amazon Kids Kindle has a 6-inch monochrome display, while Kids Kindle Colorsoft has a 7-inch color display. Amazon says each includes a dedicated protective cover and one year of Amazon Kids+. The October 1 announcement described Kids+ as offering more than 2,000 children’s books and learning manga at that time, and said parents can use Parent Dashboard to view and manage a child’s reading time and progress. The included subscription switches to a paid auto-renewing period after its first year; check the current subscription terms before ordering.
How to preorder the Kindle Click or page-turn-button cover
Amazon announced two separately sold accessories with preorders beginning October 1, 2026. The Kindle Click was listed at ¥5,180, with shipping planned for mid-November. The magnetic vegan-leather cover with page-turn buttons was listed at ¥11,980, also with shipping planned for mid-November. These are Amazon Japan’s announced prices; verify current listings and delivery estimates.

- For Kindle Click, check that your Kindle was released in 2024 or later. Amazon identifies it as a Bluetooth remote that can advance or go back a page without picking up the reader.
- For the button cover, confirm that your device is specifically the 2026 Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition or 2026 Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Amazon does not describe it as fitting the standard Paperwhite, standard Colorsoft or earlier Signature Editions.
- Review the price, selected device or color option, order status and estimated dispatch date shown on the live listing, then complete checkout if they are correct.
The cover is sold separately from the Kindle. Amazon describes its physical buttons as a way to operate pages while holding the device; this is a manufacturer description, not an independent usability assessment.
Check your Kindle generation before buying an accessory
Do not rely on a familiar model name alone: Amazon notes that Kindle generations can vary by marketplace. Before ordering a Click, cover or other model-specific accessory, identify the exact Kindle model and generation in the device settings or account information, then compare it with the compatibility statement on the accessory listing.
