For most European investors looking for China Construction Bank, the most direct listing to investigate is its Hong Kong H-share, ticker 939. Search for that ticker in your own broker account, then confirm the exchange, issuer, share class and order details before placing a trade. CCB also has a Shanghai A-share, ticker 601939, but access through a cross-border route depends on current security eligibility and broker support.
Choose the CCB listing you intend to buy
China Construction Bank (CCB) has two distinct share listings. Its H-shares trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board as 939; its A-shares trade on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as 601939, according to the CCB investor FAQ. They are not interchangeable search results: check the exchange and share class as well as the company name.
| Route | Issuer identifier | What to verify | Issuer-stated board lot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong H-shares | 939 | Your account can trade this Hong Kong-listed instrument; check currency, fees and order controls with the broker. | 1,000 shares |
| Shanghai A-shares, potentially via a cross-border route | 601939 | Current security eligibility and broker support for the relevant route and your account. | 100 shares |
These board-lot figures are stated by CCB in its FAQ; they do not guarantee that every broker will accept an order in that exact quantity or handle odd lots in the same way. The issuer also identifies its share registrar, Computershare Hong Kong Investor Services Limited, but a registrar is not a broker and cannot be used to place a market order.

A broker’s general support for Hong Kong trading does not prove that CCB’s 939 shares are available to your account. Availability can depend on the broker, account type, market permissions and client eligibility. Search while signed in to the account that would make the trade, and open the instrument details or order ticket rather than relying only on a general market-access page.

As one provider-specific example, Interactive Brokers says Hong Kong stock trading permission can be requested subject to its account process and review. Its Hong Kong stock information is not a guarantee that the security is available to every European customer or account. Other brokers have their own permission rules and instrument coverage.
Place an order only after verifying the ticket
- Search for the listing. For the direct Hong Kong route, search the broker platform for CCB and ticker 939. Treat any result for 601939 as the separate Shanghai A-share, not the Hong Kong H-share.
- Check the instrument details. Confirm China Construction Bank, the exchange, share class, ticker and trading currency shown in the quote or order preview. If the details do not clearly match the intended listing, do not submit the order.
- Check quantity and order controls. CCB states a 1,000-share H-share board lot and a 100-share A-share board lot. Confirm that the broker accepts your proposed quantity and order type; broker handling can differ.
- Review the total estimated cost. Check commission and any minimum charge, exchange, clearing or regulatory fees, applicable stamp duty, and currency-conversion or funding costs. The final estimate should come from your broker’s current schedule and order preview.
- Submit only if the terms match your plan. Review the quantity, order type, price limit if used, currency and estimated costs before confirming. A filled order confirms a purchase, not that the investment is suitable or will rise in value.
- Save the confirmation. After execution, review the trade confirmation and holdings in your brokerage account. Post-trade records, reporting and tax handling depend on the broker and your country.
Compare route-specific costs and risks
For Hong Kong H-shares, determine how the broker funds or converts into the trading currency and which market charges apply. Interactive Brokers publishes a Hong Kong stock commission and pricing schedule; it is an example for that provider, not a universal rate, and schedules or market charges can change. Use the terms shown by your own broker at the time of the order.

The Shanghai route is more conditional. CCB (Asia) describes Stock Connect as a way to access eligible mainland securities and notes that it involves RMB exposure for non-RMB investors, different market calendars and trading mechanisms, quotas, and possible restrictions or suspension. See its Stock Connect information. These conditions mean that the 601939 listing should not be treated as available through every European broker or on every date; check the current eligible list and the broker’s support for your specific account.

Check country-specific rules with your provider
“European broker” does not identify one regulatory regime. Before funding an account or trading, check which legal entity provides your brokerage service and ask that provider about account eligibility, custody, fees, tax documents and reporting. For tax duties and investor protections, consult the competent authority or official guidance for your country. The details cannot be stated reliably without knowing your residence and broker.
