To keep a Game Pass game after it leaves the catalog, check its exact Xbox Store listing before removal and buy it there if a subscriber offer is available. Xbox advertises up to 20% off select games for Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass for Console, and PC Game Pass subscribers—not a guaranteed discount on every departing title. Confirm the price and eligibility shown for your account and region before you pay.
Check whether the game is leaving and when
Look for the title in the Game Pass catalog or a current Xbox “leaving soon” notice. Xbox has previously pointed subscribers to the Game Pass mobile app, the Xbox app on Windows, the Game Pass section on console, Xbox Wire announcements, and mobile notifications as places to find departure information. That guidance comes from a November 2020 Xbox Wire explainer; its statement that subscribers would receive a couple weeks’ notice is historical, not a current guarantee. Read Xbox’s explainer.

Because catalog dates change, verify the departure date in a current notice rather than relying on an old article or announcement. If the title is still in the catalog, open its Xbox Store listing while it remains available through Game Pass.

Xbox’s current Game Pass deals page says Ultimate, Console, and PC Game Pass subscribers can get up to 20% off select games in the library. The offer is selective, and Xbox says it excludes titles within 30 days of launch as well as some other titles. “Up to 20%” is a maximum, not a promised rate for every game.

- Open the exact game and edition in the Xbox Store. Check that you have the right title and version before comparing prices.
- Look for the price shown to you as a Game Pass subscriber. Check the displayed discount and any stated offer restrictions; do not infer eligibility just because the game is in Game Pass or is leaving soon.
- Compare the final price for that edition. Offers and prices can vary, so use the amount shown for your account and region rather than a price quoted in an older post.
- Buy through the Store listing if the offer and price suit you. The cited offer concerns Xbox Store digital game purchases; it does not establish a discount on a physical copy or a purchase from a third-party retailer.
The available official information does not establish one universal set of current button labels or a title-specific price. Follow the controls and price shown on the live listing.
Do not assume every departing game is discounted
A departure notice can encourage subscribers to buy a game, but it is not proof that the title currently has a member discount. Xbox’s February 3, 2026 Game Pass update, for example, listed Madden NFL 24 as leaving February 15 and said subscribers could save up to 20% on a purchase to keep playing. Xbox also used similar language in a September 16, 2025 announcement about Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, which were listed as leaving September 30. Those dates and titles are historical. Read that announcement.
What to verify before checkout
- Title and edition: Make sure the listing is for the game and version you intend to own.
- Member offer: Confirm that the Store displays a Game Pass price or discount for your account; catalog membership alone does not establish eligibility.
- Final price: Use the live amount shown for your region, not a historical discount or price from another listing.
- Timing: Check the current departure notice and complete the purchase while the listing and offer are available.
- Purchase route: The documented subscriber offer is for Xbox Store digital purchases. The cited information does not establish the same discount for physical copies or third-party retailer purchases.
