There is no universal number of coins to spend on Squad Building Challenges (SBCs). Set a budget for each challenge by checking its live requirements and reward, using expendable Club items first, pricing only the players you still need, and protecting coins earmarked for your main squad or a planned purchase.
How many coins should you spend on SBCs?
Spend only what remains after setting aside the coins you need for your squad priorities. The right limit depends on the particular challenge, the reward’s usefulness to your club, the players you already own, and current prices on your platform’s Transfer Market. EA does not prescribe a fixed SBC budget or reserve percentage.

Think of the decision as two costs: the coins you would pay for missing players and the opportunity cost of players you already own. An untradeable player may cost no coins to buy, but submitting them still means giving up an item that could help with another challenge or squad objective.
How do I budget coins for an SBC?
- Set aside squad money. Write down your current balance and the amount you want available for your starting squad or a planned signing. Treat the remainder as the most you could allocate to SBCs, not as a target to spend.
- Inspect the exact live challenge. In FC 26, check its squad criteria, reward, expiration, and whether it is repeatable or part of a multi-challenge group. Requirements can include rating, chemistry, player quality, league, nation, or club. EA explains the submission process and requirements in its FC Ultimate Team SBC guidance.
- Check your Club and SBC Storage. Try eligible items you already have before buying more. Mark only players you are willing to surrender, and account for the future use you might give up by submitting them. EA specifically recommends starting with items in the Club or SBC Storage.
- Price the shortfall. Look up only the players you still need on the Transfer Market for your platform. Keep the coin cost of those purchases separate from the items you will submit from your Club. Prices move, so use current listings rather than an old estimate.
- Judge the whole return. Compare the missing-player cost and the value of items surrendered with the reward’s usefulness to your club. A pack or player reward is not guaranteed coin value; where applicable, check the in-game probability display. EA notes that pack probabilities can change as live content is added (EA’s Ultimate Team probability notice).
- Choose a hard cap before buying. If the market rises or you have already submitted part of a multi-step challenge, do not increase the cap simply to justify earlier spending. Reassess whether the remaining cost is still worth the reward.
- Review every player and the total before submitting. EA says submitted Player Items are permanently removed from your Club and cannot be restored. Confirm that no valuable or needed item is included by mistake; then compare the final cost with your cap.
- Replenish coins in ways that fit your play. Match and mode rewards vary. EA says FC 27 increases match coin rewards compared with FC 26; its launch update uses roughly 500–600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match in FC 26 as a comparison, not a guaranteed FC 27 payout. Squad Battles rewards include coins and weekly Battle Points/rewards, with points affected by match result and selected difficulty. What changes between FC 26 and FC 27 SBCs?
Do not apply FC 27’s newer Item Score approach to FC 26. EA’s guidance describes FC 26 squad submissions and, for FC 27, both traditional Puzzle SBCs and Simplified SBCs. Traditional Puzzle SBCs still involve meeting the stated squad requirements. In Simplified SBCs, eligible Player Items contribute Item Score toward a requirement, and progress can be saved across multiple submissions. Items submitted during partial progress are still gone even if you do not finish the challenge; check each item’s score against what remains before committing a high-value player. EA also announced that FC 27 will have a higher proportion of tradeable rewards across Objectives, game modes, and other areas of FUT. That is a stated game-design change, not a guarantee that any particular SBC reward will be tradeable or useful. Read the specific reward description before including it in your calculation (EA’s FC 27 Launch Update).
Worked example: calculate a cap from live prices
For example, imagine you have 40,000 coins, want to keep 25,000 available for a planned squad purchase, and are considering an SBC. That leaves at most 15,000 coins that you could spend without using the planned reserve. Suppose you can fill most of the challenge with expendable Club players, while the missing players’ current listings on your platform total 7,000 coins. The SBC would then require 7,000 coins in purchases, plus the opportunity cost of the players you submit—not 15,000 coins just because that amount is available.

Before proceeding, compare the specific reward with both costs. If it is not worth the 7,000-coin purchase and the Club items to you, skip it or wait. These figures are hypothetical, not a market quote; actual prices depend on platform and the time you check them.

- Coin spend: what you must buy now to complete it.
- Club-item opportunity cost: which players you would surrender and what else they could help you complete.
- Reward fit: whether the reward serves your squad or goals, including whether it is a pack, player item, or another reward type.
- Time and structure: the expiration, repeatability, and any linked group reward.
- Market exposure: how many purchases you need and whether their live prices make the challenge a poor fit for your cap.
- FC 27 Simplified SBC score: if applicable, how much each eligible item contributes compared with the remaining Item Score requirement.
When should you wait or skip?
Wait or pass if the required purchases would exceed your cap, the reward does not suit your club, or completing the challenge would consume players you want for another purpose. A deadline does not make an otherwise poor-value SBC worthwhile. If a challenge has multiple stages, evaluate the cost still ahead against the reward you actually want; money and items already committed cannot be recovered by submitting more.
Live SBC requirements, rewards, deadlines, market prices, and mode rewards can change. EA’s Companion App supports managing SBCs and player purchases or sales, and its FC 26 support index lists an FC Community API update naming approved sites such as FUTBIN, FUT.GG, and FUTWIZ for account-data connections (EA Help). Check the current in-game challenge and platform listings when making a decision.
