Agora documents a starter demo that can run in under five minutes, but that is not proof a custom daily reflection companion can be built in under 15 minutes. The practical path is to start with Agora’s browser-and-server voice-agent architecture, then add the reflection experience you can actually implement and verify.
What “under 15 minutes” means here
Agora’s official quickstart says you can build a working voice agent in under five minutes by cloning and running its maintained starter project. That claim describes the starter demo, not a custom reflection app: it does not establish the time needed to design prompts, add persistence or summaries, deploy the app, or validate its behavior. See Agora’s Voice Agent quickstart.
A daily reflection companion is a product idea layered on top of a voice agent. The title does not specify its programming language, prompt design, storage, summary behavior, deployment, or safety handling, so those details should be treated as choices to make—not features already proven to exist.

Agora’s full-stack guide separates browser responsibilities from server responsibilities. The browser requests microphone permission, joins an RTC channel, receives tokens from the backend, invites the agent, and displays transcript events delivered over RTM. It can request session shutdown when the page unloads. The backend issues RTC and RTM tokens, starts the agent through the Agents SDK, and stops it using the agent ID. The guide says the backend does not handle audio; the browser does not contain the App Certificate.

- Keep credentials server-side. Store the App Certificate on the backend and expose a server endpoint that issues client tokens. Do not embed the certificate in browser code.
- Connect the browser. Ask for microphone access, join the RTC channel using the token, and use RTM for live transcript messages as shown in the guide.
- Start and stop the agent through the backend. The server starts the agent and retains the agent ID needed to stop it; the browser can signal that the session should end.
- Add the reflection-specific behavior. Define the conversation prompts and decide whether reflections are temporary or saved. The Agora architecture does not itself establish those product choices.
Follow the current Agora full-stack implementation guide for its endpoint and session details. Its examples include Next.js/TypeScript and Python; the Agents SDK listing also names Go as an option. Package names and versions change, so use the current SDK listing rather than copying an old dependency version.
Choose how the voice agent handles speech
The quickstart describes the common cascading pipeline: automatic speech recognition (ASR) turns speech into text, a large language model (LLM) generates a response, and text-to-speech (TTS) produces spoken audio. Agora also documents an end-to-end real-time model route; that is a separate architecture choice, not an automatic feature of every voice-agent build.

Managed providers for a first prototype
Agora’s managed mode can remove the need to supply separate API keys for supported ASR, LLM, and TTS providers. Its documented example uses Deepgram Nova 3, OpenAI, and MiniMax Speech 2.6 Turbo. Managed mode still requires an Agora account and project, App ID, and App Certificate. For provider categories without managed credentials, Agora describes BYOK—bring your own key—as the default. Check the managed-mode guide for current provider support and configuration.

When provider choice matters
For a reflection app, compare setup burden, model and provider availability, language and voice support, turn-taking quality, latency, and ongoing usage cost. The documentation identifies options; it does not provide a comparative test of their performance for this use case. Do not treat one provider combination as a measured winner without testing it under your own conditions.

Microphone, cost, and what to verify
The browser voice-input path requires microphone access. A separate USB microphone is optional if the computer or phone already has suitable built-in hardware; Agora’s documentation does not require purchasing a particular device.
Agora’s pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists a starting rate of $0.10 per minute and 300 initial free minutes. These are vendor-listed terms, subject to change, and do not calculate the total cost of a specific provider stack or deployment. Check the current Agora pricing page before estimating a project budget.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
Privacy and reflection boundaries are product decisions
The documented credential pattern helps protect the App Certificate by keeping it off the client. It does not establish how a finished companion stores, retains, deletes, or restricts access to recordings, transcripts, or summaries, nor does it establish the data practices of every model provider. Decide whether reflection data is saved, explain that clearly to users, and check the relevant provider terms before handling sensitive content.
Agora’s implementation guides do not define the reflection prompts, intended audience, crisis response, or emotional-health boundaries of a companion. Describe only behavior the app actually demonstrates. A voice journal should not be presented as therapy, mental-health treatment, or a crisis service unless its design and qualifications genuinely support those claims.
