Build your Metria party around the fight you are facing, then choose three characters from your roster whose skills work well together. Metria’s party has one main character and two sub-characters; the best lineup is not a fixed tier-list trio, but the combination that fits the enemy and gives you useful skill effects without sacrificing a shared buff source.
Start with the enemy, not a generic tier list
Before changing your party, identify the enemy or content you are trying to clear and check its element. Metria’s official site advises players to consider both the enemy’s element and the skill effects of party members when forming a party. It does not provide a universal elemental matchup chart in the cited guidance, so use the information shown for your specific encounter rather than assuming a general chart or matchup rule.
That advice appeared in a Feb. 3, 2026 Metria official notice about an attacker-character pickup. The notice named Faina, Lucas, Aru, Haylead, Melchior, and Gote as characters specializing in attack. Those are examples of the attack role described at that time, not a complete roster ranking or a claim that the limited pickup is still available.
Choose complementary skills from your roster
With three slots, look for skills that contribute different useful effects instead of filling every slot with characters who do the same job. A practical checklist is damage, buffs that help your party, and debuffs that hinder opponents. Treat those as roles to consider—not a mandatory formula. Your owned characters and the encounter determine which combination makes sense.

- Damage: Include characters whose attacks or skills can contribute the damage you need.
- Buffs: Consider skills that strengthen party members or otherwise support them.
- Debuffs: Consider skills that weaken or disrupt enemies.
A Jan. 25, 2025 GameFAQs guide uses DPS, buffer, and debuffer as party-role labels and offers element-specific character suggestions. Its author cautions that the meta can change as updates arrive, so use the role framework as historical player advice rather than treating its lineups as current best-in-slot recommendations.
Build the three-character formation
Metria’s documented party setup is one main character plus two sub-characters. A Pocket Gamer beginner guide says you can switch among all three during combat. Use the formation to cover useful skills, then switch control as the situation calls for it. The guide also describes Skill 1, Skill 2, and EX skill, with EX functioning as an ultimate; consult the character’s in-game skill descriptions to decide how those abilities fit your party.

- Pick a target: Decide which encounter you are building for and check the enemy element.
- Review your roster: Compare owned characters’ skills and identify what each could contribute to that encounter.
- Fill complementary jobs: Where your roster allows, combine damage with a useful buff or debuff rather than forcing a fixed three-role composition.
- Check for overlap: If two candidates offer similar effects, consider whether the second contribution is more valuable than another role or a better encounter fit.
- Keep a shared-buff source in the party: If a character activated a shared buff you want to retain, account for the rule below before removing that character.
Keep shared buffs active when switching party members
An official Sep. 1, 2026 update clarifies an important distinction: switching which character you control does not remove a shared buff if the character who activated it remains in your party. Removing that source character from the party clears the shared buff; adding the character back does not reactivate it. You must cast the skill again. The update also says that in multiplayer, the source character must remain in that player’s party and session for the shared buff to persist.
In practice, you can switch control among your three party members while preserving the buff, but do not swap its source out of the formation expecting the effect to remain. If it is cleared, return the source character to the party and use the skill again.

Strengthen the formation through progression
Team composition is only one part of a strong party. An official Nov. 12, 2024 update says User Level and Growth Level raise the stats of characters in formation and discusses gear inheritance conditions. These are dated mechanics; check the current in-game descriptions and menus before following specific gear-upgrade or inheritance steps. The update does not establish a currently optimal gear tier or character build.
For an individual skill example, a Nov. 19, 2024 official notice says Relentless Trainee Rio’s Skill 1 attacks twice, dealing 200% damage. That is a character-specific description from that notice—not a general damage benchmark or evidence that Rio is the best choice for your party.

Why there is no single strongest lineup
The cited official guidance recommends weighing enemy element and party skill effects, while community recommendations are dated and explicitly subject to change. The available sources do not establish a current official tier list, a comprehensive elemental matchup chart, or one strongest three-character formation. Use the characters you own, the skills they actually provide, and the encounter’s needs to make the decision.
