A strong digital awards submission makes three things easy to see: why the work fits its category, what changed because of it, and how a judge can verify the claims. Start with the award’s current rubric, build a concise story from objective to measured result, and give judges direct access to the work. The exact rules differ by program and category, so treat any one award’s guidance as an example—not a universal template.
Start with the award and category, not the entry form
Choose the category that most accurately describes the work, then use that category’s published criteria to shape the entry. This prevents a common mismatch: describing a project in terms the team values while leaving judges to infer how it meets the award’s stated standards.
Criteria can differ both between awards and among categories within the same program. For example, the Webby Awards’ 2026/2027 criteria for website entries include content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, innovation, and overall experience. Its Advertising, Media & PR criteria instead include creativity, execution, innovation, brand integration where applicable, and overall experience. See the Webby Awards judging criteria, and confirm the live rubric for the award and cycle you are entering.

Build the impact story in a clear sequence
Organize the entry around this chain: objective → baseline → work → result → interpretation. A judge should be able to follow what the team wanted to change, where things stood before the work, what was delivered, what happened afterward, and why that outcome matters in relation to the original aim.
- Objective: State the audience need or problem and the specific change the project aimed to achieve.
- Baseline: Describe the starting point, target, or comparison period. If there was no measurable baseline, say what evidence established the need instead.
- Work: Explain what was made or changed, for whom, and how it was delivered. Point to the actual experience, campaign, or service.
- Result: Report the relevant outcome, with its timeframe, source, and comparator where available.
- Interpretation: Explain how the result relates to the objective and what limits the conclusion, including attribution limits where relevant.
The PRCA’s Digital Awards toolkit 2026 advises putting results in context and connecting them to the original aims. A number without that connection may be accurate but still leave the judge unsure whether the work succeeded.
Choose evidence that demonstrates impact
Use a small set of measures that directly support the claims in the entry. Distinguish outputs—such as views, impressions, or downloads, which can show distribution—from outcomes such as conversion, retention, task completion, revenue, or service improvement. An output may be relevant, but it does not by itself show that the project achieved its objective.

For every figure, supply enough context for another person to understand and check it:
- What the measure means and which source system or research method produced it.
- The date range, and the comparison period, baseline, or target if one exists.
- The relevant audience, geography, platform, or device context.
- Any material limitation, such as a short measurement window or a change in tracking.
- Who reviewed or approved the figure when responsible sign-off is appropriate.
WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Awards 2026 Guide recommends verified KPIs and metrics, responsible sign-off where applicable, and support for claims with numbers, feedback, or results. Prefer a credible, attributable measure to a larger figure whose meaning is unclear. Do not imply that the work caused an outcome unless the evidence supports that conclusion.
Match the proof to the claim
| Claim in the entry | Useful evidence | Context to provide |
|---|---|---|
| The work addressed an audience problem | Research, user feedback, service data, or a clearly described need | Who the audience was, when the need was identified, and how it was established |
| The experience worked effectively | Task success, completion, engagement, or usability evidence suited to the project | Baseline or comparator, platform or device, and measurement method |
| The campaign or product had an impact | A relevant business, audience, or public-benefit outcome | Original target, timeframe, geography, and attribution limits |
| The work was innovative or creatively distinctive | A demonstration of the work and a precise account of what differs | What existed before and why the difference is meaningful |
Qualitative evidence can add useful context. Explain how feedback was gathered; do not present a few selected comments as representative unless the method supports that claim. If a comparison is not available, be explicit about what was measured and what remains uncertain. Avoid labels such as “record-breaking” or “industry-leading” unless a defined comparison and evidence substantiate them.

Make the work easy for judges to inspect
Give judges a direct route to the submitted work, using the access format allowed by the organizer. Avoid making them search a corporate site or guess which feature, campaign, or version is under consideration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor campaign entries, Webby Awards entry advice suggests a non-branded landing page with project details, a case-study video, results or statistics, and links to the campaign elements. Its eligibility guidance says agency-branded case-study sites are not eligible to win a Webby; that restriction is specific to the Webby program, so check the target award’s rules rather than assuming the same policy applies elsewhere. See How To Enter The Webby Awards.
For subscription-based work, provide a guest login if the organizer permits it. Explain the access steps and, if allowed, include a fallback demonstration. Make sure the submitted version reflects the work being judged. Test links, credentials, and media on the platform or device specified by the award’s instructions.

Edit for a judge evaluating many entries
Write so a reader unfamiliar with the team or project can understand the case quickly. Mirror the rubric’s language where it accurately describes the work, define acronyms on first use, and put proof beside the claim it supports. Remove unsupported superlatives, internal jargon, and background that does not help establish fit, execution, or impact.
Presentation is useful when it clarifies the work and evidence; it cannot replace either. The Webby Awards’ judging criteria put this in perspective: “Hard metrics are one measurement, but so is the work itself in the context of the audience.” Attribute the sentence to the Webby Awards judging criteria; the page does not identify an individual speaker.
Check eligibility, permissions, access, and deadlines
Before submitting, verify the current rules for the exact program and cycle. Check category fit, eligibility, entry format, language requirements, rights and permissions, access requirements, fees, and deadline. These are program-specific details and may change between cycles.

As a dated example, the Webby entry page lists October 30, 2026 as the early-entry deadline for the 31st Annual Webby Awards. That date is not a general deadline, and it should be checked on the live Webby entry page before relying on it. The Webby entry guidelines say the competition is open to organizations and individuals involved in designing, building, managing, maintaining, marketing, or promoting digital work. They also state that entry fees cover inclusion in review and do not guarantee a score, nomination, or award. Read the current Webby Awards Entry Guidelines for the program’s exact terms.
Webby judging is described as a two-stage process: Associate Academy members independently inspect entries, with multiple members evaluating each one; shortlisted work is then reviewed by category-specific Executive Academy members, who vote on honors. Members are barred from judging entries where they have personal or professional conflicts. This is useful context for making the case understandable without insider knowledge, but it describes the Webby Awards process, not every award program. See the Webby Awards judging process.
