To stop seeing a publication or subject in Apple News, block its channel or topic: search for it, open it, tap or click More Actions, then choose Block Channel or Block Topic. Apple calls publications “channels.” If you only want to change recommendations, use one of the less restrictive controls instead.
Block a channel or topic
Apple’s blocking steps are available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The labels may vary slightly as Apple updates the app, so use the wording shown in your current version.

- Open Apple News and select Search.
- Search for the publication (channel) or topic you want to block, then open its page.
- Select More Actions.
- Choose Block Channel or Block Topic, as appropriate, and confirm if prompted.

Unblock a channel or topic
The route to your blocked list differs between Apple News on iPhone or iPad and the Mac app.

On iPhone or iPad
- Open Apple News and go to Following.
- Select Manage, then Blocked.
- Remove the channel or topic from the list and confirm Unblock.
On Mac
- In the News app, open the File menu.
- Select Manage Blocked Channels & Topics.
- Remove the channel or topic and confirm Unblock.

“Mute” can mean several things in Apple News. These controls have different effects:

| Restrict Stories in Today | Applies a broader restriction to Today. Apple says it significantly limits variety and removes Top Stories and Trending Stories. |

Why a blocked source may still appear
A blocked channel can still appear in Top Stories. Apple says, “Top Stories appear the same for everyone”; a blocked channel remains blocked in the rest of the feed. Apple’s Mac guide also says blocking is unsupported in Top Stories and other groups curated by Apple News editors. A headline in one of those areas does not necessarily mean the channel was removed from your blocked list. See Apple’s blocking guide and its Mac News guide.
