To block a specific number on a Samsung Galaxy, open Phone > More options (the three vertical dots) > Settings > Block numbers. Enter the number and tap Add, or select it from a list such as Recents, Messages, or Contacts if that option appears.
Block one specific number
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then tap Settings.
- Tap Block numbers.
- Enter the number and tap Add (the plus icon), or choose a number from Recents, Messages, or Contacts if those choices appear.
You can also block a number from Recents or block an existing contact through Contacts. Samsung’s instructions describe these routes, though their availability and labels can vary by model and software version. See Samsung’s guide to blocking a number or contact.
Block unknown or unspecified callers
In Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers, turn on Block calls from unknown numbers if the setting is available. Samsung describes this as blocking calls from unknown or unspecified numbers; do not assume it universally blocks every caller who is not saved in Contacts. The option may not appear on every Galaxy model. Samsung’s blocking guide explains the setting.

Reduce suspected spam calls
Spam identification and filtering are separate from adding a particular number to your blocked list. On supported phones, Samsung’s Caller ID and spam protection, also called Smart Call, can identify suspected spam and may offer a choice to block all spam and scam calls or only high-risk scam calls. The exact controls and availability depend on the phone and carrier. See Samsung’s Smart Call support guide.

If you want to screen calls rather than automatically filter them, use caller identification to assess a number, then choose whether to block or report it. Samsung describes Smart Call this way: “The Smart Call function lets you know who’s calling even when the number isn’t on your contact list.” Samsung Smart Call.

Automatic filtering can also catch calls you might have wanted to answer, such as a call from an unrecognized number. If that trade-off matters, use caller identification and review calls before blocking or reporting them.

Unblock a number and understand what blocking does
To undo a block, return to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers and remove the number using the minus icon. For a blocked contact, Samsung also documents an Unblock contact option. Samsung says a blocked number’s calls and texts are prevented from being received on the phone; voicemail blocking may require contacting your carrier. Samsung says call settings can differ by wireless provider, software version, phone model, and region. Check the Phone app’s settings, install available device software updates, or consult Samsung or your carrier’s support for your model. Samsung Canada’s call-settings guide also notes that options vary.

Samsung’s US guidance describes AI Scam detection as an additional feature for Galaxy phones running Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher. It is not required to block a number using the Phone app. Check Samsung’s current local guidance for device and regional availability: AI Scam detection support.
