Request and download your X archive while your account is still active, then verify that you can open the downloaded ZIP before you deactivate the account. X says archive preparation may take a few days, and deactivation starts a 30-day window in which logging in can restore the account.
Request your X archive before deactivation
Use the account you intend to delete and start the archive request while you can still sign in. X may ask you to confirm the email address on file and verify your identity using the email address or phone number associated with the account. Menu names can vary by device, so follow the route shown in your logged-in settings.

Sign in to X and open your account settings.

Go to the account or data area and choose the option to download or request your archive.

Complete the identity verification prompts. Confirm that the email address on file is current and accessible.

Submit the request. X says, “It may take a few days for us to prepare the download of your X archive.” It does not give a fixed maximum preparation time. X’s archive instructions
X says it will email you when the archive is ready and may also send an app notification. When it is available, return to account settings or use the email link. Download and check the archive
Save the original ZIP somewhere you can find it, then open a copy or extract it to inspect the contents. X describes the archive as a machine-readable snapshot in HTML and JSON. To browse it, open the included “Your archive” file in a desktop browser. Keep the original ZIP as a preserved copy before reorganizing or extracting files.

The archive can include profile information, posts, Direct Messages, Moments, images, videos and GIFs attached to posts, messages or Moments, follower and following lists, address book data, Lists, inferred interests and demographic information, and information about ads you have seen or engaged with. X describes these as information it considers most relevant and useful; it does not promise that every category or individual item will appear in every archive. Before deactivating, confirm that the ZIP finished downloading and that you can open “Your archive.” X does not state a typical archive size or prescribe storage capacity. A local external drive is one optional place to keep a copy; it is not needed to request or download the archive.

X describes deactivation as the first step toward permanent deletion. It starts a 30-day period during which logging in can restore the account. If you do not log in during those 30 days, X says the account is permanently deactivated/deleted and no longer available through its production tools. Once the archive is downloaded and checked, use X’s deactivation option in account settings. If you intend to let deletion proceed, do not log back in during the 30-day window. Requesting the archive after deactivation risks losing access to the account needed to complete the request and download.
