To add Featured to your personal LinkedIn profile, open your profile, choose Add profile section (or Add section in the app), go to Recommended, and select Add Featured. Then add a post, article, external link, image, document, presentation, or video and save it.
The Featured section is a portfolio area: it lets visitors see selected evidence of your work without searching through your activity or profile sections.
Add Featured on LinkedIn from a desktop browser
- Sign in to LinkedIn.
- Select Me at the top of the LinkedIn homepage.
- Select View Profile.
- In the introduction area at the top of your profile, select Add profile section.
- Open Recommended, then select Add Featured.
- On the Featured page, select the Add (+) icon.
- Choose the type of content you want to add and follow LinkedIn’s prompts.
- Select Save or Done.
LinkedIn’s current documented route is Add profile section → Recommended → Add Featured. Button placement can change as LinkedIn updates its interface; if you do not see the option immediately, look in the profile’s introduction area rather than in the Experience section.
LinkedIn’s official Featured-section instructions provide the current desktop workflow.

Add Featured from the LinkedIn mobile app
- Open the LinkedIn app and tap your profile photo.
- Open your profile.
- In the profile introduction area, tap Add section.
- Tap Recommended.
- Tap Add featured.
- Choose the type of work sample to feature.
- Tap Save or Done.
On mobile, the wording may appear with different capitalization, but the path is generally Add section → Recommended → Add featured.
What can you add to LinkedIn Featured?
LinkedIn’s Featured section supports several kinds of professional evidence:
- Posts: Posts you wrote or reshared.
- Articles: Articles you authored and published on LinkedIn.
- External links: A portfolio, case study, résumé, personal website, booking page, or other web page.
- Images and documents: Work samples, PDFs, presentations, reports, or other uploaded files.
- Videos: A presentation, demonstration, interview, talk, or other relevant professional video.
A post or article must already have been authored and published on LinkedIn before you can add it to Featured. Posts from LinkedIn Events and Groups cannot be featured because of LinkedIn’s member-privacy protections.

LinkedIn lists areas such as Experience, Licenses & certifications, Recommendations, Courses, Honors & Awards, Skills, Projects, and Education as possible profile-content sources. LinkedIn currently documents this profile-content spotlighting option as available to Premium Business, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter subscribers.
That subscription limitation applies to the profile-content spotlighting function—not to the ordinary Featured workflow for adding posts, articles, external links, and uploaded media. If you have a free account, you may still be able to create the standard Featured section and add supported work samples.
See LinkedIn’s documentation for featuring profile content for the account-specific details.
What should you put in Featured?
Choose items that quickly demonstrate what you do, who you help, or the quality of your work. A useful Featured section is curated evidence—not a duplicate of every link on your profile.

For a job seeker
- A portfolio or personal website.
- A résumé or selected case study.
- Your strongest relevant work sample.
- A post explaining a professional achievement, project, or lesson learned.
For a consultant or business owner
- A useful guide, report, or downloadable resource.
- A representative client case study, subject to confidentiality and permission.
- A service, consultation, or booking page.
- A post that demonstrates your expertise rather than simply promoting your business.
For a creator
- Your strongest post.
- A LinkedIn article or newsletter.
- A presentation, video, or external project.
- A link that gives visitors a clear next step, such as viewing your work or contacting you.
Put the most important item first. For example, a designer might lead with a portfolio, a software engineer with a meaningful project or technical case study, and a consultant with a practical resource followed by a relevant client result. These are editorial recommendations, not guarantees that Featured will increase profile views, recruiter responses, or conversions.
How to reorder, edit, or remove Featured items
- Open your LinkedIn profile.
- Scroll to the Featured section.
- Select the section’s edit control, usually the pencil icon.
- Use the available controls to reorder items, edit an item’s title or description, or remove it from Featured.
Removing an item from Featured does not necessarily delete the underlying post, article, file, or link. Where LinkedIn offers a permanent delete option, read the prompt carefully: deleting the original content is different from removing its Featured placement.
LinkedIn says newly featured content appears first by default, but you can reorder the display. It also states that you can add an unlimited number of items, while only 400 are displayed.
For the current management rules, see LinkedIn’s Featured section FAQ.

Why can’t I see the Featured section?
There are several normal explanations:
- It has no content: LinkedIn says the Featured section is hidden from profile visitors when it contains nothing. Add at least one item before expecting other people to see the section.
- The item is not public: Featured does not override the visibility of the original content. A post restricted to your connections does not become public just because you feature it.
- You are viewing the wrong account type: Personal-profile instructions do not apply to a LinkedIn Page.
- You are not signed in: Viewers must be signed in to LinkedIn to view items in another member’s Featured section.
- The content is not searchable: Featured content is not discoverable through LinkedIn search. Visitors generally need to open your profile and look at the Featured section.
- The app or interface differs: Update the LinkedIn app, reopen it, and check the profile introduction area for Add section or Add featured.
Featured on a personal profile versus a LinkedIn Page
The instructions above are for an individual LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn also provides a separate Page-admin feature for featuring up to six Page posts at the top of a LinkedIn Page’s Home tab. A company Page administrator should use the Page’s admin controls rather than looking for Add profile section → Recommended → Add Featured on a personal profile.

- Does the item show your relevant skill or professional value?
- Is the title clear enough that a visitor understands it without opening the item?
- Does the link or file still work?
- Are the original visibility settings appropriate for the audience you want?
- Is the first item your strongest or most useful example?
- Have you removed outdated, duplicated, confidential, or irrelevant material?
Frequently asked questions
Is LinkedIn Featured free?
The standard workflow for featuring posts, LinkedIn articles, external links, and uploaded media is separate from LinkedIn’s Premium-only profile-content spotlighting feature. The availability of particular account features can vary, but you do not need to confuse the ordinary work-sample workflow with the documented Premium Business, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter option for spotlighting profile-section details.
Can I feature someone else’s LinkedIn post?
LinkedIn’s documented examples cover posts you authored or reshared. If a post is not available through the Featured picker, you cannot force it into the section. Consider sharing the relevant idea yourself with appropriate attribution, or add a related external work sample instead.
Will adding Featured make my content appear in LinkedIn search?
No. LinkedIn says Featured content is not discoverable through LinkedIn search. Its purpose is to curate evidence for people who visit your profile.
Can I hide or remove a Featured item without deleting it?
Yes, removing an item from Featured generally changes its placement without deleting the original content. Be careful to distinguish the remove-from-Featured control from any permanent delete option.
How many Featured items should I add?
LinkedIn allows an unlimited number of items, although it says only 400 are displayed. In practice, a short, relevant collection is easier to evaluate than a long archive. Start with your strongest three to five items and review them periodically.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: On desktop, go to Me → View Profile → Add profile section → Recommended → Add Featured. In the app, use Profile photo → profile → Add section → Recommended → Add featured. Add a small selection of current work samples, check their original visibility settings, and reorder the strongest evidence to the front.
