To deposit cash into Cash App, use the app’s Deposit paper money feature at a participating retailer. Find a store in the app, show its cashier the barcode Cash App generates (or swipe your active Cash App Card if the store supports that method), and hand over the cash. Cash App charges $1 per paper-money deposit, deducted from the amount you add.
How do I deposit cash into Cash App?
- Open the location finder: In Cash App, tap Money, then choose Deposit paper money.
- Find a participating store: Enter your ZIP code and select a location listed in the app. Store participation can vary, so check the locator for your area rather than assuming a particular branch accepts deposits.
- Choose how to present the deposit: Show the cashier the barcode generated in Cash App. If the retailer supports it, you can instead swipe your active physical Cash App Card.
- Hand over the cash and confirm: Follow the cashier’s instructions, confirm the transaction, and keep the receipt. Cash App says the balance is available after the store processes the deposit.
Cash App’s step-by-step guide lists Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS as examples of locations that may appear in the finder, not as a guarantee that every branch participates. Use the app’s ZIP-code search to check current local availability: Cash App’s paper-money deposit guide.

Where can I deposit paper money into Cash App?
Use the Money > Deposit paper money locator to see participating retailers near your ZIP code. Cash App’s direct-deposit page advertises more than 85,000 locations nationwide, but its pages give different totals; the in-app locator is the useful way to find a current option in your area. Paper-money deposits are made at participating retailers. The official instructions do not establish ATM deposits as an option.

What does a Cash App cash deposit cost?
Cash App’s US Terms of Service state that each paper-money deposit costs $1, deducted from the deposit amount. The Terms say Cash App Green fee waivers ended on June 29, 2026; as of October 7, 2026, the stated fee applies to all customers. See Cash App’s US Terms of Service.
What are the deposit limits and requirements?
- Eligibility: The feature is available only to customers Cash App deems eligible. Check whether Deposit paper money appears in your app.
- Limits: Cash App sets daily and periodic limits by account. Its Terms say limits can depend on account history, direct-deposit history, spending activity, and other risk factors; they may change and are displayed in the app. There is no single universal maximum to rely on.
- Retailer minimums: A retailer may require a minimum deposit of $5 or $20. The applicable minimum can vary by retailer and by whether you use a barcode or card.
- Identification and card: A retailer may ask for proof of identity, your physical Cash App Card, or other documentation, depending on the retailer and transaction amount.
- Sponsored accounts: Sponsored teens can use the feature only if their sponsor is eligible. Sponsored Accounts for Children are not eligible.
Barcode or Cash App Card: which method should I use?
Use whichever method the selected retailer supports and you have available. The barcode is generated in the app; the card option requires an active physical Cash App Card. Store rules, minimums, and documentation requirements may differ, so follow the cashier’s instructions for that transaction.

What if the deposit option or a nearby store is unavailable?
- You do not see Deposit paper money: Cash App makes the feature available only to eligible customers. Check your account in the app; public information cannot determine your individual eligibility.
- No nearby location appears: Try the ZIP code for a nearby area in the in-app locator. A retailer’s participation is location-specific, so verify the exact store before going.
- The cashier asks for a card or ID: Retailers may require a physical card, proof of identity, or other documentation. If you do not have what the cashier requests, ask whether that location accepts the barcode method or choose another listed store.
- You need another way to add funds: Cash App also lists linked bank or debit-card funding and direct deposit as alternatives. Availability, speed, and any applicable fees depend on the method and the terms shown in your app.
