Yes—if your stereo has a compatible audio input, you can connect a Bluetooth music receiver and play audio from a phone or tablet through the existing speakers. Check the stereo’s input labels and manual first, then match the receiver’s output and cable to that input.
What you need to check first
Find an available audio input on the stereo and confirm its purpose in the manual. RCA jacks are not automatically inputs: look for labels that identify an input, and check the manual if the labeling is unclear. Common line-level inputs include AUX, CD, Tape, and Line; the maker’s guide to Bluetooth receiver connections cautions against connecting a standard receiver output to PHONO. Verify the guidance against your stereo’s documentation.
Then check the connector. A Bluetooth receiver with RCA audio output can connect to compatible RCA inputs. A receiver with a 3.5 mm output may need a 3.5 mm-to-RCA stereo cable. TP-Link documents both connection types for its HA100 Bluetooth Music Receiver, but marks that model end of life; it is an example of the connection approach, not a current product recommendation. - Choose a Bluetooth music receiver whose audio output matches the stereo’s confirmed audio input.
- Connect the receiver’s audio output to that input. For RCA, match red with red and white with white, as Philips instructs in its stereo connection guidance.
- Power the receiver according to its manufacturer’s instructions. Check the listing or manual for power requirements and included cables or adapters.
- Pair your phone or tablet with the receiver, then select the stereo input you used. Pairing steps and input-selection labels vary by equipment, so follow the respective manuals.
Once connected, the receiver acts as a Bluetooth source for the stereo. TP-Link describes the HA100 category as streaming music from a phone or tablet to a stereo or standalone speaker; the actual setup depends on the receiver and stereo you choose. TP-Link HA100 product information

Choose a receiver or transmitter based on audio direction
For playing phone audio through the old stereo’s speakers, buy a Bluetooth receiver: it takes audio wirelessly from the phone and sends it to the stereo’s input. A Bluetooth transmitter is for the reverse direction—sending audio from the stereo to Bluetooth headphones or wireless speakers.

Check these details before buying
- Input versus output: Confirm that the stereo jack is an audio input for receiver-based phone playback, or an audio output if you intend to use a transmitter.
- Connector match: Compare the stereo input with the receiver’s audio output. RCA and 3.5 mm are documented examples; a cable may be needed to connect them.
- Power and accessories: Check the specific receiver’s power requirements and what comes in its package. Accessories vary by model.
- Unusual or unclear connections: Consult the stereo manual or an audio technician rather than assuming compatibility from a jack’s appearance.
