You cannot add Minecraft Bedrock Edition to the CurseForge app at present. CurseForge’s supported Minecraft integration is for Minecraft: Java Edition; Bedrock is not available as an app-managed game, profile type, or modloader option.
That means there is no working Settings → Add Game → Minecraft Bedrock procedure. If Bedrock does not appear in CurseForge, the app is behaving as expected—not failing to detect your installation.
Why Bedrock cannot be added to CurseForge
The CurseForge app’s Minecraft integration is built around Java Edition profiles and Java modloaders. Its supported choices include:
- Forge
- Fabric
- NeoForge
- Quilt
- Vanilla Java
Bedrock Edition is not listed as a supported game. Consequently, CurseForge has no Bedrock profile format and no Bedrock-specific Install or Play workflow.
#1 Best Overall
This also applies if you own both editions through the Minecraft Launcher. Having Bedrock installed on Windows does not make it available to CurseForge’s Java integration.
What “Manually add a game” does—and does not do
CurseForge includes a general manual-add feature:
- Open CurseForge.
- Open Settings.
- Click the + button.
- Choose Manually add a game.
- Select the installation directory when prompted.
You can also try Settings → + → Scan computer for games to let the app search for supported installations.
Neither option adds Bedrock support. These tools locate games that CurseForge already supports; they do not convert an unsupported game into a CurseForge-managed profile. Selecting a Bedrock folder may therefore produce no useful Minecraft integration, even if the folder is accepted.

A common mistake is to choose Vanilla and expect Bedrock Edition. In CurseForge, Vanilla means the unmodified Java Edition game without a modloader. It does not mean “all versions of Minecraft without mods,” and it does not launch Bedrock.
What CurseForge does support
For Java Edition, the normal CurseForge workflow is:
Rank #2
- Open Browse or Discover.
- Choose Modpacks from the content dropdown.
- Use the available filters, including All Game Version and All Mod Loaders.
- Open a modpack and select Install.
- Launch or manage it from My Modpacks.
To install an individual Java mod, open the mod’s page and click Install. CurseForge then lets you choose Create a new profile or Select a profile. A new profile is created with Create; an existing compatible profile uses Install.
CurseForge detects the Minecraft version and modloader associated with the selected file. The optional Advanced section only offers compatible Java versions and modloaders, so it cannot be used to select Bedrock.
How to use Bedrock add-ons instead
Bedrock content uses a different format and installation model from Java mods. Bedrock add-ons are commonly distributed as .mcpack or .mcworld files rather than Java mod files.
- Download a Bedrock-compatible add-on from a source that explicitly identifies it as Bedrock content.
- Open the downloaded
.mcpackor.mcworldfile with Minecraft, if your operating system offers that association. - Wait for Minecraft to import the pack or world.
- For an add-on, edit or create a world and enable the imported behavior and resource packs as required.
Do not assume that a Java mod, Forge mod, Fabric mod, or Java modpack can be imported into Bedrock. They use different game engines and file formats. Likewise, a page that offers a CurseForge Install button is not automatically a Bedrock import route. The documented website-to-app installation flow is for supported CurseForge content, primarily Java profiles.
Java launcher settings do not add Bedrock
CurseForge’s Minecraft settings can include launcher choices such as Classic/Mojang launcher, Microsoft Store launcher, and Use CurseForge launcher. These settings belong to the supported Java modpack workflow.
Choosing Use CurseForge launcher may display a Log in button and require a Microsoft/Minecraft account, but it does not turn the launcher into a Bedrock launcher. Changing the launcher choice will not make Bedrock appear in My Modpacks.
Common mistaken fixes
| Attempt | Result |
|---|---|
| Manually select the Bedrock installation folder | Does not create a supported Bedrock profile. |
| Run “Scan computer for games” | Cannot add an unsupported edition. |
| Choose “Vanilla” | Creates or selects a Java profile without a modloader. |
| Install a Java mod into Bedrock | Incompatible file format and game edition. |
| Change the CurseForge launcher setting | Changes the Java launch method, not edition support. |
If you meant Java Edition
If you intended to manage Java Edition, first set up Minecraft in CurseForge. With the standard recommended setup on Windows, the app uses its own modding directory, normally:
C:Users[user]curseforgeminecraft
CurseForge creates a dedicated modding environment, so Minecraft does not necessarily need to be installed in advance for the setup. If setup fails with a directory or access-permission error, the official troubleshooting guidance recommends choosing Advanced and selecting a folder such as C:CurseForge, where the Windows account has suitable read/write access.
For launcher, installation, or unzip errors—including Failed to install Minecraft launcher, Error Code 0, launcher-core errors, and unzip errors—open the app’s right-side menu and choose Repair Installation. If a profile will not launch afterward, check for incompatible mods or a mod that does not match the selected modloader.
A Play Demo button generally indicates a Minecraft account-login problem. Sign out and back into the correct Microsoft/Minecraft account rather than trying to add Bedrock manually.

Platform note
CurseForge’s current documentation lists Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 and higher, and supported Linux distributions based on official Ubuntu support. Its Linux troubleshooting documentation explicitly says that the app supports Minecraft: Java Edition and World of Warcraft—not Bedrock Edition.
On Linux, AppImage browser-to-app links may also require AppImageLauncher. That affects opening supported Java CurseForge links; it does not provide Bedrock support.

Can I add Minecraft Bedrock to CurseForge manually?
No. CurseForge has a “Manually add a game” option, but it is for supported games. Selecting a Bedrock folder does not create a Bedrock profile or enable Bedrock add-on management.
Why does CurseForge only show Java Edition?
The current Minecraft integration supports Java Edition profiles and Java modloaders such as Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, and Quilt. Bedrock Edition is not currently an app-managed game.
Does CurseForge Vanilla mean Bedrock?
No. Vanilla is unmodified Minecraft Java Edition without a modloader.
Best Value
Can CurseForge install Bedrock add-ons?
There is no documented CurseForge Bedrock import workflow. Bedrock add-ons normally use formats such as .mcpack and .mcworld and should be imported through Minecraft using a Bedrock-compatible source.
Can the CurseForge launcher launch Bedrock?
No. CurseForge’s launcher settings support its Java modpack workflow. Selecting the CurseForge launcher does not launch or add Bedrock Edition.
Is the missing Bedrock option a CurseForge detection problem?
No. Bedrock being absent from the supported game list is expected. Scanning the computer or reinstalling the app will not add an unsupported edition.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Minecraft Bedrock Edition cannot currently be added to the CurseForge app. Do not use manual game addition, scanning, Vanilla profiles, or launcher changes as workarounds—they do not add Bedrock support. Use CurseForge for Java Edition mods and modpacks, and import Bedrock add-ons through Minecraft using their Bedrock-specific file formats.
