To add a widget on a Samsung Galaxy phone, touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen, tap Widgets, choose a widget, select any offered option, and tap Add. You can then move it, resize or customize it when those controls are available, or combine it with other widgets in a stack. Exact choices and menus vary by model, One UI version, installed apps, carrier, and region.
What Galaxy widgets do
A widget puts an app’s information or controls directly on a screen, so you can see or reach something without opening the full app. Depending on what is installed and supported, examples include weather, SmartThings routines, email, Camera, Samsung Notes, Spotify, and YouTube. A Home screen widget and a Lock Screen widget occupy different places and may offer different actions; availability depends on the device and software.
Choose a widget based on what you want at a glance or within quick reach. The available size and appearance controls are app- and widget-specific, not guaranteed features.
Add, move, or remove a Home screen widget
- Open the widget picker: Touch and hold an empty part of the Home screen, then tap Widgets. If the wording on your phone differs, follow the equivalent Home screen widget option.
- Choose a widget: Browse or scroll the list, select an app, and choose the widget or size option offered.
- Add it: Tap Add. The widget appears on the Home screen.
- Move it: Touch and hold the widget, then drag it to a new position. You can drag it to another Home screen page as well.
- Remove it: Touch and hold the widget and tap Remove.
Resize or customize a widget
Only some widgets can be resized. Touch and hold a widget; if a resize handle appears on its outline, drag the handle to adjust its dimensions. If there is no handle, resizing is not offered for that widget in the current setup.

For widget-specific appearance or content options, touch and hold it and tap Settings, if that option is shown. Depending on the widget, you may be able to change its background color, transparency, or displayed information. Many widgets have no such settings, so a missing customization control does not necessarily indicate a problem.
Combine widgets in a Home screen stack
A stack places multiple widgets in one Home screen area. Swipe left or right across it to switch between the widgets, which can save space compared with placing each one separately.

- Touch and hold an existing Home screen widget and choose Create stack.
- Choose another available widget and its offered option, then tap Add.
- Swipe across the stack to move between its widgets.
To change its contents, touch and hold the stack and choose Edit stack. Samsung’s US instructions show adding an item with the plus sign and removing one with the red minus control. Auto-rotation is not universal: Samsung’s US support page says it is unavailable on One UI 6.1.1 or higher, while its Canada support page says availability depends on One UI version and phone model. Do not assume your stack will rotate automatically.

- Touch and hold an empty area of the Lock Screen.
- Tap Add widgets.
- Choose from the available categories, then drag the widgets to rearrange them.

Samsung’s One UI 7 support material says Home screen widget names are hidden by default, except for default Samsung app widgets and Google’s Search widget. To show labels, open Home screen settings and enable Widget labels. This is a One UI 7-specific detail; menu names or behavior may differ in other versions.

If a widget is missing or does not work
- Check every Home screen page. Swipe across the Home screen in case the widget was moved.
- Look in the widget picker. Touch and hold an empty Home screen area and tap Widgets; the widget may have been removed from the screen.
- Check for a stack. The widget may be inside a stack rather than displayed on its own.
- Confirm app support. Not every app offers a widget, and support can end. If the app’s widget is no longer listed, it may not be supported on your current setup.
- Update the relevant app. Then check device settings and any applicable restrictions. A company-managed work profile may restrict widgets.
- Distinguish missing controls from a fault. If the widget appears but has no resize handle or Settings option, its developer may simply not provide resizing or customization.
