Use the server console to grant admin rights: run deeplist, identify the player, then run op with the correct identifier. On RimWorld Together version 25.12.13.1 or newer, use the username the player created when joining; on older or uncertain versions, use the identifier shown by deeplist. Remove the privilege with deop and the same identifier.
The three commands you need
RimWorld Together manages administrator status through the server console rather than a documented admin-list configuration file. The basic sequence is:

The identifier is the part that requires the most care. The RimWorld Together wiki says that, as of version 25.12.13.1, the command should use the username the player created when joining instead of the UID. Several hosting guides still describe copying a player ID from deeplist. Check the server version and try the username first on 25.12.13.1 or newer; if it is rejected, use the UID displayed by deeplist.
Before you grant access
Have the player join once
Make sure the intended administrator has connected to the server at least once. The server must know the account’s name or UID before an operator command can match it. Guides also commonly require the player to be online when you run the command, so keep that player connected while completing the console steps.

Confirm which server you are editing
Open the console for the actual RimWorld Together instance that the player uses. Hosting panels can expose several services, test instances, or restart controls under similar names. A command entered in a different instance will not change the permissions on the live server.
Know the exact spelling
Names used by console commands are case-sensitive. Copy the identifier exactly as it appears in the game or in the deeplist output, including capitalization and any spaces that the console accepts. Do not shorten a name or substitute a display name from a hosting panel.

- Open your hosting panel and select the server’s console. The location and label vary by host, but it is normally the live text console used to send commands.
- Enter
deeplistand submit it. - Read the returned player list. Find the intended administrator and note both the displayed username and the UID or player ID, if one is shown.
- Keep the output available while you issue
op. A copied value prevents typographical errors, especially with long UIDs.
The ordinary list command can also show connected players, while deeplist is the safer choice when you need the detailed identifier. If the player does not appear, ask them to join the server, wait for the connection to register, and run deeplist again.
Choose username or UID
Identifier syntax differs by RimWorld Together version and by the instructions supplied with some hosting panels. Use this decision rule:

The version-specific username guidance comes from the RimWorld Together wiki’s note for 25.12.13.1. Other guides still document the UID workflow, so a failure does not necessarily mean the player lacks permission; it may mean that the command is using the wrong identifier format for that server build.
Why the two methods conflict
The UID is an internal identifier, while the username is the name registered when the player joined. Earlier instructions for RimWorld Together commonly tell administrators to copy the ID from deeplist. The later wiki guidance changes the preferred input to the username. Because the available documentation is not uniform across versions, do not assume that a command copied from a different host or an older tutorial applies unchanged to your installation.
Grant administrator status from the console
- Ensure the target player is online and visible in
deeplist. - For version 25.12.13.1 or newer, enter
op PlayerName, replacingPlayerNamewith the exact in-game username. For example, a player whose name isRowanwould useop Rowan. - If your version expects IDs, enter
op PlayerID, replacingPlayerIDwith the exact UID fromdeeplist. For example, an output value such as123456789would be entered asop 123456789. - Submit the command and watch the console for its response. Keep the player’s connection active while the permission change is processed.
- Have the player leave and rejoin if the administrative controls do not appear immediately. A fresh login makes the new permission available to the client.
Do not add quotation marks unless your panel’s command parser explicitly requires them. The documented syntax is the command followed by the identifier separated by a space.
Have the new admin open the admin controls
Enable Development Mode
After the player has administrator status, they should join the server and open Options from the Esc menu. They then check Development Mode. This setting is a client-side prerequisite for the development and administrative controls described in the guides.

Open the Admin menu
With Development Mode enabled, the player opens the Admin menu from the Esc menu. Depending on the RimWorld Together version, an admin control may also appear at the top right of the screen after login. Either entry leads to the administrative panel when the server recognizes the operator permission.
What the panel is for
The panel can expose controls for server settings such as the mod list and difficulty. The guides also describe it as a way to bypass mod-list restrictions. Those controls affect the shared server, so give operator status only to people who should be able to change settings for every connected player.

- Confirm that the console accepted the
opcommand without an error. - Ask the player to reconnect so their session receives the updated role.
- Have them check Options → Development Mode, then look for Admin in the Esc menu or the top-right admin control.
- Test a non-destructive administrative screen before changing the mod list, difficulty, or other shared settings.
If the menu is still missing, do not repeatedly issue op with random spellings. Recheck the server version, compare the exact username with the join name, run deeplist again, and then test the UID method if the version or documentation is uncertain.
Remove admin rights with deop
- Identify the same username or UID that was used for the successful
opcommand. - Enter
deop PlayerNameon a username-based server, ordeop PlayerIDon a UID-based server. - Submit the command while the player is connected when possible.
- Ask the player to reconnect and confirm that the Admin menu is no longer available.
Use the same identifier type for both operations. If op succeeded with a UID, use that UID for deop; if it succeeded with a username, use the exact username and capitalization.

Troubleshoot a failed op command
The player is not listed
The server has not registered the player in the current session, or the command is being sent to the wrong instance. Have the player connect, verify the server address they used, and run deeplist again. If the list remains empty, use list as a second presence check and verify that the hosting panel’s console belongs to the running RimWorld Together server.
The username command is rejected
Check whether the server is actually running 25.12.13.1 or newer and whether the spelling matches the join username exactly. If the version is older or cannot be confirmed, copy the UID from deeplist and retry with op followed by that UID. Do not use a nickname from a chat platform or a panel account name unless it is the same name registered in RimWorld Together.
The UID command is rejected
On a 25.12.13.1-or-newer server, the username is the preferred identifier according to the wiki guidance. Run deeplist, copy the username exactly as displayed, and retry with the username form. A UID copied incompletely, with an extra space, or from a different connection can also fail.
The command appears to work but no Admin menu appears
Have the player reconnect, open Options from Esc, and enable Development Mode. Then check both possible menu locations: Admin in the Esc menu and the admin control at the top right after login. If neither appears, repeat the identifier check rather than changing unrelated server files.

Commands work for one player but not another
Permissions are attached to the identifier supplied with each command. Run deeplist while the second player is online and use that player’s own exact username or UID. A successful command for one account does not grant rights to everyone connected.

Hosting panels place the console in different locations and may label the submission control differently. The interface difference does not change the documented command sequence, but a panel can expose a different command set or version. Run help in that console and confirm the server version before relying on a tutorial written for another host.
Security and administration practices
Grant the minimum necessary access
An admin can reach settings that affect every player, including the mod list and difficulty. Treat operator status as a shared-server privilege, not as a cosmetic role. Give it only to people who need to administer the world, and remove it with deop when that responsibility ends.
Protect UIDs
The RimWorld Together wiki warns against sharing UIDs. Copy a UID only into the server console or another trusted administration channel, and avoid posting it in public chat, screenshots, or support threads. When the username method is supported, it avoids having to circulate the UID, but the exact username still needs to be handled carefully because commands are case-sensitive.
Do not edit unrelated configuration files for this task
The available instructions describe admin management through op and deop. They do not establish an adminlist configuration file or a supported JSON workflow for adding operators. Stopping the server before editing JSON is a precaution mentioned for configuration changes by some hosts; it is not a requirement established for the console commands in this procedure.
Version and documentation caveats
RimWorld Together server behavior can change between releases, and hosting panels do not all expose the same console. The username-versus-UID distinction is specifically tied to the 25.12.13.1 guidance cited above. If your server reports a different version, consult its in-panel command help and the documentation for that build before making a permanent administration procedure.
One hosting guide claims that the first player to join is automatically an admin during server setup, but that behavior appears in only one guide and is not a dependable general rule. Do not rely on joining first as a substitute for running op. Explicitly grant the intended administrator and verify the Admin menu after reconnecting.
