How to Add a Web Page to the Start Menu or Taskbar in Microsoft Edge

To pin a website from Microsoft Edge, open it and select Settings and more (…) > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app. After confirming, go to edge://apps, select Details on the site’s card, then choose Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar. If you only want a Start-menu shortcut, Edge also offers a direct More tools > Pin to Start route.

Use this route when you want to choose either Start or the taskbar, or manage the website entry later.

1. Open the website in Microsoft Edge.

2. Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner, then choose More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app.

3. Confirm the installation prompt. Microsoft says a website can be installed this way; a progressive web app (PWA) may instead show its own install prompt. The installed entry is managed at edge://apps. Microsoft’s Edge app instructions

4. Enter edge://apps in Edge’s address bar and press Enter.

5. Find the website, select Details on its card, then choose Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar. The same card also provides a desktop-shortcut option. Microsoft Support

Pin a website directly to the Start menu

If Start is your only destination, Microsoft documents a shorter route: open the website in Edge, select Settings and more (…) > More tools > Pin to Start, then follow any confirmation prompt. This guidance applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft’s Windows Start menu instructions

Microsoft’s explanation of Edge apps and widgets distinguishes a website installed as an app from a PWA. An installed site opens in its own dedicated window, but that does not make it a full native app or give it PWA features such as offline operation and notifications.

If the install or pin option is missing

• If the site is already installed, open edge://apps and check its Details card for the available pin controls.

• Check whether Edge presents an install prompt for the site; a PWA may provide its own prompt instead of the general site-install flow.

• Menu labels and availability can vary by language or Edge release, and managed devices may differ. Microsoft documents the routes above but does not establish one cause for every missing or disabled menu item. Windows also provides separate taskbar controls for pinning apps.
