To add a debit card, open Samsung Wallet, tap the plus icon, choose Payment cards, and scan or enter your card details. Then follow the prompts and complete any verification required by your card issuer. The steps are simple when your exact card is supported—but a bank’s participation does not guarantee that every debit card it issues is eligible.
How do I add a debit card to Samsung Pay?
Samsung’s current Canadian support instructions describe Samsung Pay as part of Samsung Wallet. The app name, buttons, and available entry methods can vary by region or device, so follow the labels in your local app. Samsung Canada’s payment-card instructions give this general path:
- Open Samsung Wallet and go to the Quick Access tab.
- Tap the plus icon, then choose Payment cards.
- Choose an available way to enter the card: scan it with your phone’s camera, enter the details manually, or—where your local app offers it—tap an NFC-enabled card on the phone.
- Enter any additional information the app requests, tap Next, and accept the card issuer’s terms to continue.
- Complete the remaining prompts, including issuer verification if requested.
Scanning can be convenient, but you can enter the details manually if the camera cannot read the card accurately or scanning is unavailable. NFC card tapping is not documented as an option in every region; use it only if your app offers it.

Can I add my debit card by scanning it?
Yes, if the camera option appears in your Samsung Wallet app. Start from plus → Payment cards and use the camera to capture the card. Review the information the app reads and correct or complete any fields it asks for. If scanning does not work, use manual entry if available. Either method still requires the card to be eligible and may be followed by issuer verification.

Why can’t I add my debit card to Samsung Wallet?
A failed enrollment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Samsung says some cards from participating banks are unsupported; its US FAQ gives an ATM-only card as an example. A familiar network logo or another successfully added card from the same bank does not establish that this particular card is supported. Samsung’s US FAQ advises checking eligibility with the card issuer, which can confirm support for your exact card and account.
The card may not be eligible, or verification may be pending
Some issuers require additional authentication before approving a card for Samsung Wallet. Contact the issuer if the app says the card cannot be added, asks for verification you cannot complete, or leaves you unsure whether approval is pending. The issuer is the definitive source for that card’s eligibility and verification requirements.

The connection may have dropped during enrollment
An active internet connection is required while adding a payment card; Wi-Fi or mobile data can provide it. If connectivity is lost, Wallet cannot verify the card until it returns. Samsung notes that in some cases the card data is discarded and enrollment must be started again. Its US FAQ also cautions that adding a card while abroad may be difficult without an installed SIM and active mobile connection; this is a support caveat, not a universal rule for every traveler or market.

- Check that your phone has a working Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, then retry if the connection had been interrupted.
- Ask your card issuer whether the exact card is supported and whether it needs to complete or approve authentication.
- If the issuer confirms eligibility and a retry is appropriate, remove the card from Wallet if it is listed, then add it again and follow the prompts.
Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance describes manual card entry and following registration instructions that may involve the bank’s app or website. That page addresses missing or incorrect transaction information, so it does not establish that re-adding the card will fix every enrollment error. Samsung’s guidance also does not support diagnosing a particular error without its code and the relevant region.

What should I do if my bank replaces my debit card?
If the issuer sends a replacement payment card, Samsung says to remove the original card from Wallet and add the replacement as a new card. The replacement may have different details, so do not assume the existing Wallet entry will update automatically. Samsung’s US FAQ covers this replacement-card guidance.

That terminal prompt comes after enrollment and is separate from whether the card was successfully added to Wallet. Samsung says to choose the transaction type appropriate for the physical card. If choosing debit causes an issue, Samsung suggests trying again and selecting credit regardless of the card type. This is guidance for responding to a terminal prompt, not a change to the card’s underlying account type. Samsung’s US FAQ describes this situation.
