WriteStack can send a Substack Note to your Buffer queue after the Note publishes on Substack, so Buffer can distribute it to channels you select. Connect Substack and Buffer in WriteStack, choose the Buffer destinations, and select them when drafting or scheduling a Note. This is a two-step workflow: WriteStack handles the Substack side; Buffer handles distribution elsewhere.

What the WriteStack–Buffer integration does

The integration links a Substack Notes workflow in WriteStack with Buffer for distribution to other social channels. Buffer describes WriteStack as handling Substack scheduling, analytics, and content management, while Buffer handles distribution. The integration is presented as an add-on in WriteStack. Buffer’s WriteStack case study describes scheduling a Note in WriteStack and having it scheduled on Buffer too.

For the specific sequence, Buffer’s integration listing says WriteStack sends the Note to Buffer’s queue after it has published on Substack. That means the integration does not establish that Buffer is what publishes the Note to Substack.

How to connect WriteStack to Buffer

  1. Sign up for WriteStack and connect your Substack account or publication.
  2. Open WriteStack settings and connect your Buffer account when prompted.
  3. In WriteStack, select the destination channels linked to your Buffer account.
  4. When you draft or schedule a Substack Note, choose the Buffer destinations where you want it distributed.

Confirm that the destinations are selected in your own WriteStack account before scheduling. The integration listing describes the Note entering Buffer’s queue after Substack publication; the case study uses broader language about scheduling on both services, so treat the listing’s sequence as the clearest description of when it reaches Buffer.

When does a Note appear in Buffer?

According to Buffer’s integration listing, the Note is sent to Buffer’s queue after it publishes on Substack. The case study says a Note scheduled in WriteStack is also scheduled on Buffer, but does not give a separate timing rule. The exact timing for your selected destination should therefore be checked in your WriteStack and Buffer accounts.

Which channels can receive the Note?

Buffer’s API documentation lists Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Mastodon, YouTube, Pinterest, and Bluesky as supported channels. Buffer says its GraphQL API is available on all Buffer plans, including Free, although API key and request limits vary. These are general Buffer API details—not a guaranteed list of destinations available through WriteStack. The WriteStack integration listing does not enumerate a fixed channel list. See Buffer’s API documentation and check the channel options in your WriteStack account.

Workflow Direction Timing and scope
WriteStack with Buffer Substack Note to selected Buffer channels Buffer’s integration listing says the Note reaches Buffer’s queue after publication on Substack.
Buffer’s native Substack channel Buffer to Substack Buffer can publish a Note to Substack at a chosen time. It supports Notes only, not long-form posts or newsletter issues, replies, or restacks of existing content.

Buffer’s native Substack channel can also import the 100 most recent Notes from a connected Substack channel for Insights, then pick up new Notes published directly on Substack. Buffer documents this as part of its native channel; it does not establish that WriteStack imports Notes the same way. Read Buffer’s Substack publishing help article.

What to check if the workflow does not behave as expected

  • The Note is not reaching Buffer: Check that the Buffer account is connected in WriteStack settings and that at least one destination channel is selected for that Note.
  • The Note is in Buffer but not on a social channel: Check the post and destination status in Buffer. The integration listing describes sending the Note to Buffer’s queue; it does not promise that every selected channel has the same publishing conditions.
  • A channel is missing: Buffer’s broad API channel support does not guarantee that every channel is offered by WriteStack. Use the destination list shown in your account.

For custom Buffer API connections, Buffer says its API can honor channel approval settings by saving posts as drafts when approval is required. The API does not support reading comments or replying to them, and media for API-created posts must be hosted at a publicly reachable URL until publication. These are general API constraints, not documented WriteStack setup requirements. Buffer API details.

Plans, pricing, and availability

Buffer’s API being available on all Buffer plans does not establish WriteStack’s plan eligibility, subscription requirements, or current pricing for this integration. The official integration listing and case study describe the connection but do not settle those account-specific terms. Check the current options in WriteStack and Buffer before relying on a particular plan or feature.
