The Husqvarna Automower 308V is designed to handle routine mowing on its own: it works within a configured lawn area and returns to its charging station automatically. That can reduce the recurring work of pushing a mower, but it is not a fit for every garden or a zero-maintenance appliance. The key checks are lawn size and mowing pattern, slope limits, installation requirements, and willingness to clean and replace blades.
What the Automower 308V does for you
Rather than waiting for the grass to grow long enough for a conventional mowing session, the 308V is intended to mow autonomously within its configured area and recharge automatically. Husqvarna’s UK product page lists a virtual-wire boundary, a virtual transport path, and automatic charging. That makes the routine task less hands-on, while leaving setup, occasional upkeep, and troubleshooting with the owner.
The 308V has a 22 cm cutting width and uses three pivoting razor blades, according to Husqvarna’s UK product listing. Husqvarna lists an app and keypad interface and smart-home integration on that regional page; check the local listing and manual for the article number sold in your market.

Husqvarna lists a maximum working-area capacity of 800 m² for the UK 308V, but the capacity depends on mowing pattern: 500 m² for irregular mowing and 800 m² for systematic mowing. These are manufacturer figures, not a guarantee that every lawn of those dimensions is suitable. Consider the actual mowing area, obstacles, passages, and layout when deciding whether the rating leaves enough headroom. The UK product page and 2026 Husqvarna catalogue give the pattern-specific figures.

How steep can Automower® handle?
For the 308V, Husqvarna specifies a maximum slope of 40% within the working area and 15% at the boundary. These are different limits: a slope the mower can handle within the lawn is not necessarily manageable where it meets the perimeter. Do not plan to use a section that exceeds its applicable limit; exclude it or redesign the installation.
A slope percentage is vertical rise divided by horizontal distance, multiplied by 100. Husqvarna’s slope guidance also notes that turns around obstacles and wet conditions can increase slipping risk and wear on grass. Keep wheels clean to support traction. A Terrain Kit may help on compatible models, but verify 308V compatibility before buying one.

What setup does it still need?
The product listing describes the 308V as using virtual boundaries. Do not assume that instructions for a physical-wire installation apply to this model: Husqvarna’s general physical boundary-wire installation guide covers a different setup approach. Use the regional 308V manual and instructions for the exact article number to plan the charging station, virtual boundary, app pairing, passages, obstacles, and any separate lawn areas.
Before relying on unattended mowing, check that the intended area can be configured within the manufacturer’s limits and that the charging station can be placed as required by the model instructions. Property layout and terrain can make installation more involved than the idea of “set and forget” suggests.

What maintenance should you expect?
Automation reduces manual mowing, not all lawn-mower upkeep. The 308V’s three pivoting blades need inspection and replacement as they wear; Husqvarna lists blades and a Maintenance & Cleaning Kit among accessories on its 308V support page. Check blade part numbers for your exact model before ordering. The cleaning kit is optional, not a stated requirement.
- Clean the wheels, especially if the mower is slipping on slopes.
- Inspect the blades and replace worn or damaged blades using parts confirmed for the 308V.
- Use the support manual’s cleaning and service guidance for the model and region.
- If a problem persists, consult Husqvarna support or a local dealer rather than assuming the mower can handle a poor installation.
What to know about runtime and energy figures
Husqvarna’s UK product page lists 100 minutes as typical mowing time per charge and 100 minutes as typical charging time. The 2026 catalogue gives different typical mowing and charging figures, so those numbers should not be treated as universal or combined. Confirm the manual and product details for the precise regional article number before using runtime to plan a schedule.

The UK listing also states average monthly energy use of 5.5 kWh at maximum use. That is a manufacturer-published figure tied to that use context, not a measurement of every household’s consumption.
Is the 308V a low-fuss choice for your property?
It is most plausible as a time-saving option when your mowing area fits the capacity for your chosen pattern, slopes fall within the separate internal and boundary ratings, and the lawn can be configured according to the 308V’s regional installation instructions. If your garden has steeper sections, difficult passages, or a layout that challenges the stated capacity, the advertised autonomy alone is not enough to establish fit.

Husqvarna’s published specifications and support materials describe the intended operation and care, but do not establish a guaranteed labor saving, a perfectly uniform cut, or performance on every lawn. Treat the 308V as a way to reduce routine manual mowing—not as a mower that removes installation and maintenance from the equation.
