The Google Play wishlist is a saved list of apps, games, books and other eligible digital content that you may want to install or buy later. Saving an item does not download it or reserve its current price. On Android, add an item from its details page, then open Profile picture > Library > Wishlist to find it. Optional wishlist notifications can alert you when prices drop, while a separate Android setting can permanently clear the entire list.
What the Google Play wishlist is—and what it is not
Google describes the wishlist as a list of apps and digital content you want to install or buy on Google Play. It is a tracking and convenience feature: each entry remains in your account so you can return to the listing, check its current price, or start an install or purchase later.
A wishlist entry is not a download queue. Google explicitly says wishlist items are not automatically downloaded. Saving a game does not install it, saving a book does not make it readable offline, and saving paid content does not complete a purchase. You still choose Install or Buy when you are ready.
The list is also not a general shopping list for physical goods. The documented categories are digital Play content, including games, apps, books and Play Pass items. What appears can depend on the title, your account, your country and the current version of the Play app.

How to add an app, game or book on Android
You can save an item from its full listing or use a shortcut from a browse or search screen.
Add from the item’s details page
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
- Search for an app, game or book, or browse to it through a category.
- Tap the item to open its details page.
- Tap Add to wishlist at the top of the page.
The control changes to Added to wishlist after the save succeeds. If you tap that control again, the item is removed.
Add directly from a list or search result
- On the Play home screen, a category page or search results, press and hold the item.
- Tap Add to wishlist.
This shortcut is useful when you are scanning several results and do not want to open every details page. If the long-press menu does not show the option, open the listing and use the details-page control instead; labels and layouts can vary by app version.

Android Play Store app
- Open Google Play.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Choose Library.
- Tap Wishlist.
Your saved entries appear in the wishlist view. Depending on the account and app version, filters can narrow the list to Games, Apps, Books or Play Pass. Use a filter when a long list makes a title difficult to locate.

Google Play on the web
On a computer or mobile browser, go to play.google.com and open My wishlist. The web view is useful when you are researching an app on a larger screen or want to check a book before switching back to your phone. The exact navigation and available controls can differ from the Android app.
Play Books
Books saved through Google Play Books can also appear in the Wishlist tab of the Google Play Books app. If a book is missing from one view, check the other app while signed in to the same Google account and confirm that the title is still available in your country.
What the wishlist can save
Google Play’s documented filters identify four practical groups. An individual listing may be free, paid, subscription-based or unavailable in your region; the wishlist simply preserves the listing for later checking.

Google Play is a broad digital store for apps, games, books and more, but the wishlist documentation does not promise that every content type is displayed in every country. Treat the category filters as the supported, documented view rather than as a guarantee that every Play product will be saveable.

How wishlist notifications can help you pay less
The wishlist itself does not lock in a price. To receive optional price-drop alerts, open the Android Play Store and follow this path:
- Tap your Profile picture.
- Tap Settings.
- Open General.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn on Wishlist.
These notifications are intended to tell you when a saved item’s price decreases. They are not a promise that every sale will generate an alert or that a title will ever be discounted. Keep Android notifications enabled for Google Play as well, or the app may be unable to display the alert.
Book-specific behavior
In a March 27, 2023 Google Play Books product update, Product Manager Cullen Rotroff wrote: “When you wishlist a book in the Play Books Android app, you’ll receive a notification if the book’s price drops.” The same guidance says users should opt in to notifications to take advantage of sales on wishlisted titles. Actual delivery can vary by title, account, country and current app version, so check the listing’s price before buying.
How to use an alert safely
- Open the notification and verify that it leads to the intended title, especially for books with similarly named editions.
- Check the current price on the item page; a notification does not preserve the old or new price.
- Confirm the correct Google account before purchasing if your device has multiple accounts.
- For Play Pass items, check whether the title is still included rather than assuming a price alert applies.
Installing or buying from the wishlist
Open the saved item from Library > Wishlist on Android, or from My wishlist on the web. The available action is generally Install for an app or game, or Buy for paid digital content. Follow the normal Play checkout or installation prompts.

Before confirming a purchase, review the displayed price, edition, developer or publisher, payment account and any subscription terms. A wishlist is a shortcut back to the current listing, not a reservation. If the item has changed price, platform requirements or availability, the current listing is authoritative.
When the action is missing
- Install is unavailable: the app may be incompatible with the device, unpublished, unavailable in your country or restricted by account settings.
- Buy is unavailable: the title may have been removed, replaced by another edition or made unavailable in your region.
- Play Pass does not unlock it: verify the subscription status and whether the title is still included.
- The listing opens but the wishlist button is gone: search for the title again and check that you are using the same Google account that saved it.
How to remove one item or clear the entire list
Remove a single entry
Open the item’s details page and tap Added to wishlist. The item is removed immediately from the list. You can also remove entries while reviewing individual listings rather than deleting the whole collection.
Clear every wishlist entry on Android
- Open Google Play and tap your Profile picture.
- Choose Settings.
- Tap General.
- Open Account and device preferences.
- Tap Clear wishlist.
- Confirm the action.
Google warns, “You can’t undo this action.” Clearing removes the saved list; it does not uninstall apps, delete purchased books or cancel subscriptions. If you only want to tidy the list, remove entries individually instead.

Common problems and practical fixes
The saved item is not visible
First confirm the account shown by your profile picture. Then check the category filters and search the title again. Books may be easier to locate in the Play Books app’s Wishlist tab. If the listing has been removed or is no longer offered in your country, it may not behave like an active Play page even if an old entry remains.
A price-drop notification never arrived
Verify that Wishlist notifications are enabled in the exact settings path above and that device-level notifications for Google Play are allowed. A notification is optional and title-dependent, not a guaranteed alert for every promotion. Open the listing periodically if the price is important to you.
The wishlist seems to change between devices
The list is associated with the Google account, while the visible catalog and actions depend on country, device compatibility and app version. Make sure both devices use the same account, then refresh Play or sign out and back in if the list is stale. Do not confuse a missing install button with a missing wishlist entry.

You cleared the list by mistake
There is no undo command for the documented clear-all action. You must search for the titles again and add them individually. Purchased content is separate from wishlist data, so clearing the list does not remove items you already bought.
A reliable way to use the wishlist
- Save deliberately: add titles you genuinely expect to revisit rather than every interesting search result.
- Use filters: separate books, apps, games and Play Pass items when reviewing the list.
- Enable alerts selectively: turn on wishlist notifications if price changes matter, but still verify the live listing.
- Review before installing: check compatibility, permissions, publisher identity and current availability.
- Clean up manually: remove individual entries when you no longer want them; reserve clear-all for a complete reset because it cannot be undone.
Used this way, the wishlist is best understood as a cross-device reminder and a shortcut to current Play listings. It can help you notice a sale, but it never replaces checking the present price, availability or account before you install or buy.
