Spotify says Premium Family members must live with the plan manager and enter the same home address. The company says it does not track members’ locations; it checks the submitted address for verification. Spotify does not explain publicly how its systems confirm or match those addresses.
What Spotify says the Family address rule is
Spotify’s Premium Family eligibility rules say members need to live with the plan manager. When someone joins, they must enter the same home address as the manager. Each member keeps a separate Spotify account, while the manager pays for and manages the plan.
This is a household requirement, not simply a request that everyone use the same payment method or share an account. Spotify Support summarizes the rule as: “You need to be living with the plan manager.”

Does Spotify track your location?
Spotify says no. Its address-verification help page states: “We don’t track your location. We only check your address to verify.” That is Spotify’s public description of the process.

The support page does not say what technical method Spotify uses to confirm or match addresses. It does not specify whether it checks a database, billing information, an IP address, GPS, Wi-Fi, or another signal. Those methods should not be assumed based on the published instructions.
When Spotify may ask you to verify your address
Spotify says it may request the full home address in three situations:

For an email reverification request, the member has seven days to provide the full address. The email instructions direct the member to complete the verification using the link provided.
How the QR-code verification works
Some members may be asked to verify in person by scanning a QR code with the plan manager. Spotify’s QR instructions say the manager and member must be in the same place, and the scan is completed in the mobile app. The QR code changes every few seconds.

If Spotify requests this check, it must be completed within seven days. The QR request is a separate verification experience from entering an address; Spotify’s instructions do not say that every Family member will be asked to scan one.
What happens if verification fails or you miss the deadline
Spotify says that if a member fails an email address check or does not respond within seven days, they lose Family access and move to Spotify Free. The same Family member can rejoin that Family or Duo plan, but cannot join a different Family or Duo plan for 12 months from the verification failure date.

Spotify says the address you select must be in the same country as the country where your payment method was issued. If the address does not appear in autocomplete, its instructions recommend entering the full address and selecting “Find.” If it still does not appear, Spotify suggests trying the building, street name, or a nearby public space or building. Spotify explicitly says not to use another person’s address.

What Spotify has and has not explained
Spotify’s public pages establish the household eligibility rule, the address requests, and the possibility of an in-person QR scan. They do not provide a technical explanation of how an address match is confirmed, nor do they publish verification accuracy figures or the number of checks performed. The linked support pages are U.S. English pages; plan rules and availability can vary by country.
