Brandon Sanderson reportedly saw Apple TV’s work on Silo as evidence that it could be a good home for his Mistborn adaptation. The Oct. 6, 2026 report also identifies two other factors in his decision: a meaningful role in shaping the story and Apple’s commitment to a theatrical release.

Why did Sanderson see Apple TV as a fit for Mistborn?

In a report by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, based on an interview with Sanderson at FanX Salt Lake, the author said he admired Apple TV’s work on both Silo and Murderbot. He praised the service’s adaptation of Silo, created by his friend, and its work on Murderbot, based on Martha Wells’s books. He also characterized Apple TV as a service that “seems to do fewer things better.” The reproduced report presents Silo as part of the evidence behind Sanderson’s confidence in Apple TV’s storytelling.

That is Sanderson’s stated perspective, not an independent comparison of Apple TV with other possible partners. The account does not describe competing offers or establish that Silo alone determined the choice.

What creative control did Sanderson want?

Sanderson reportedly wanted a substantial voice in the adaptation’s narrative, structure, and story. He said: “I will be about narrative. I will be about structure. I will be about story.” The report says Apple was “totally on board with that from day one” and that the arrangement would be written into the contract.

His role was not described as control over every production decision. Sanderson reportedly distinguished story decisions from areas such as casting and location, where he would defer to other specialists. The account does not provide the contract language or further detail about how authority would work in practice.

Why did a theatrical release matter?

The report says Apple’s commitment to a theatrical release was another factor for Sanderson. He pointed to Apple’s handling of F1 when discussing the company’s willingness to bring a project to cinemas. The story does not specify the planned length or scope of Mistborn’s theatrical run.

Is Mistborn a movie or a TV series?

In the Oct. 6, 2026 report, Mistborn is described as a feature film, while The Stormlight Archive is described as a separate television development. The article gave no release dates for either project. That is a snapshot of what the report said at publication, not a guarantee of their present production status.
