Ordinary Clock alarms generally stay on the phone where you create them. The official Android and iPhone guides do not document an alarm list shared between two separate phones. Google does document a specific exception: alarms can sync between a Pixel phone and Pixel Watch, including a defined behavior when the devices are disconnected. Samsung documents phone-to-watch alert mirroring while Bluetooth-connected, but not synchronization into the watch’s Alarm app or its offline behavior.

If you need two phones to wake you, set an alarm independently on each phone unless the exact app and device combination explicitly documents cross-phone synchronization and offline handling.

What “shared alarm” can mean

People use “sync” for several different behaviors. Separating them prevents a missed wake-up caused by assuming that one feature guarantees another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Alarm-list synchronization: An alarm created, edited, repeated or deleted on one phone appears and changes on another phone.
  • Alert mirroring: One device sends the same alarm notification or sound to a companion device. The second device may not contain a copy in its own Alarm app.
  • Independent redundancy: You create separate alarms on two devices. They are not synchronized, but each device can alert using its own stored schedule.
  • Cross-device account settings: An account, calendar, reminder or cloud setting is available on multiple devices. That does not prove that local Clock alarms are shared.

The built-in documentation reviewed for Android and iPhone explains how to create and manage alarms locally. It does not promise that an alarm set on one phone will appear on another phone, that an offline edit will be reconciled later, or that dismissing one phone will cancel another.

What is documented on each platform

Setup What the documentation establishes What it does not establish
Two separate Android phones Google’s Android Clock guide covers creating, editing, repeating, snoozing, stopping and deleting alarms on an Android device. No ordinary phone-to-phone alarm-list synchronization or offline conflict handling is documented.
Pixel phone and Pixel Watch Google provides an Alarm sync setting. You can choose adaptive ringing or have an alarm ring on both devices. Google says both alert even when the devices are not connected. This is a Pixel phone-to-Pixel Watch feature, not evidence that two phones share alarms.
Samsung phone and watch When phone and watch are Bluetooth-connected, alarms set on the phone sound on both devices. Samsung says those alarms do not sync into the watch’s Alarm app. Watch-created alarms remain on the watch, and the cited guidance does not specify disconnected behavior.
Two iPhones Apple’s Clock guide explains local alarm settings, repeat days, labels, sounds, snooze and snooze duration. It does not describe sharing a regular Clock alarm list between iPhones.
iCloud or general cross-device services Apple lets you choose which supported apps and features use iCloud; Google documents broader cross-device services. Neither page says that regular Clock alarms synchronize or reconcile offline edits between phones.

Pixel phone and Pixel Watch: the documented sync case

Turn on Alarm sync

Google’s supported setup is specifically a Pixel phone paired with a Pixel Watch. On the phone:

  1. Open the Clock app.
  2. Open Clock settings.
  3. Choose Alarm sync.
  4. Select the Pixel Watch you want to use.
  5. Choose the alert mode offered by the setup: adaptive ringing, or ringing on the watch and phone.

With sync enabled, Google says each synced alarm can alert on both the phone and watch. Adaptive ringing determines which device alerts first based on factors such as which device is active and whether the watch is being worn. If the alarm is not turned off, it can proceed to the other device as described by the setting.

What happens if the Pixel devices are disconnected

Google explicitly states: “If the devices aren’t connected, your alarm rings on both your phone and your watch.” In this narrow, documented pairing, loss of the connection does not mean the watch silently loses the alarm.

“Not connected” here should not be expanded into a promise about every failure state. The documentation addresses the Pixel phone-and-watch pairing; it does not say that a powered-off device will ring, nor does it define how an alarm edited offline on one of two phones would later merge with another copy.

If Pixel alarm sync is not working

  • Confirm that the selected watch is the one currently paired with the phone.
  • Open Clock settings and verify that Alarm sync remains enabled.
  • Install current system and Clock app updates on both devices, as Google advises checking that both devices and Clock are up to date.
  • Create a test alarm a few minutes ahead, then test with the devices connected and again with their connection unavailable.
  • For a critical wake-up, add a separately created alarm on another device rather than relying on an unverified recovery behavior.

Samsung phone and watch: mirrored sound, separate alarm lists

Samsung describes a different model. When the phone and watch are Bluetooth-connected, an alarm created on the phone sounds on both. Samsung also says that the phone alarm does not synchronize into the watch’s Alarm app.

How the two alarm stores differ

  • An alarm created on the phone remains a phone alarm, even if its sound is heard on the connected watch.
  • An alarm added or edited on the watch is exclusive to the watch.
  • Deleting a watch-created alarm removes it from the watch only; it does not delete a corresponding phone alarm.

That is alert mirroring, not a shared alarm list. Samsung notes that screens and settings can vary by provider, software version and model. Its cited guidance does not state whether a phone alarm will sound on the watch when Bluetooth is unavailable, so do not apply Google’s Pixel offline rule to this setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To avoid surprises, test the exact phone-and-watch combination you use. Set a temporary phone alarm, disconnect Bluetooth, and observe the result without assuming that the test proves behavior for every software version or model.

iPhone: local Clock alarms, not a documented shared list

Apple’s iPhone Clock guide covers the controls on one iPhone: repeat days, a label, sound, snooze and snooze duration. It also distinguishes regular Clock alarms from a Health sleep schedule; changing a sleep schedule is not the same as synchronizing ordinary alarms.

Apple’s iCloud setup documentation lets you select supported apps and features for each device, but it does not say that regular Clock alarms are copied between iPhones. Shared calendars, reminders, sleep schedules or account preferences therefore should not be treated as proof of Clock-alarm synchronization.

Apple’s AlarmKit developer reference is an API document for software developers. Its existence does not establish that the built-in Clock app shares alarms between iPhones or that offline edits reconcile automatically.

What “offline” means for an alarm

Offline is not one technical condition. Identify which connection has failed before predicting what will happen.

Offline condition Question to ask What is established here
No internet access Does the alarm already exist locally, or does the app need a server to deliver it? The reviewed official pages do not document server-based cross-phone alarm delivery or offline queueing for a shared alarm service.
No Bluetooth connection to a watch Is the watch a paired device with documented standalone behavior? Google says synced Pixel phone/watch alarms ring on both when the devices are not connected. Samsung’s cited page does not specify this case.
App cannot reach its service Will an edit made offline upload later, and which edit wins if both devices changed? No reviewed source documents offline reconciliation, conflict resolution or delayed dismissal propagation for phone alarms.
Device powered off Can the device boot and run its alarm scheduler? The cited Pixel guidance does not promise alarm behavior for a powered-off device. Keep a second, powered-on alarm source for critical events.

Do not infer that an alarm will “sync later” merely because the phones use the same account. A shared account or general cross-device feature can coexist with app data that remains local. Likewise, there is no documented basis here for assuming that dismissing an alarm on one phone suppresses a copy on another phone.

How to create dependable two-device redundancy

When two phones must alert, the safest approach is independent alarms unless your specific product documentation promises synchronization.

  1. Set the primary alarm. Create it in the Clock app on the phone you normally keep beside you.
  2. Set a second alarm separately. On the other phone, enter the same time and repeat days instead of waiting for an account to copy it.
  3. Choose an intentional offset. Use the same time for simultaneous alerts, or a short offset if you want the second phone to act as a backup after the first alarm is missed.
  4. Check each device’s alarm volume, sound, snooze and Do Not Disturb behavior. These settings are local; changing them on one phone should not be assumed to change the other.
  5. Test the failure state you care about. For a watch setup, test with Bluetooth unavailable. For two phones, test with one phone in airplane mode and with the app unable to reach the internet. Record what actually happens for that exact configuration.
  6. After changing the schedule, update both alarms. Independent alarms do not inherit edits, deletions or repeat-day changes from each other.

A separately set backup is less elegant than synchronization, but it has a clear failure model: each device owns its own schedule. That makes it possible to verify both alarms without relying on undocumented conflict handling.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The alarm appears on one phone only

That is the expected result for ordinary built-in Clock alarms unless a specific app documents phone-to-phone sharing. Set the second alarm directly, and check whether you were confusing a calendar, reminder or account feature with the Clock app.

The Pixel watch does not alert

Verify the Pixel-specific Alarm sync setting, the selected watch and current software on both devices. Then run a short test while connected and another while disconnected. The documented disconnected behavior applies to the Pixel phone-and-Pixel Watch pairing, not to arbitrary Android phones or watches.

A Samsung watch alarm is missing from the phone

Check where the alarm was created. Samsung says watch-created alarms are exclusive to the watch, while phone-created alarms can sound on both when Bluetooth-connected without appearing in the watch’s Alarm app.

An offline edit did not appear elsewhere

No reviewed official source promises that a phone alarm edit made without connectivity will upload and reconcile later. Re-enter the change on every independently managed device and test before relying on it.

Dismissing one alarm stopped—or failed to stop—another

There is no documented cross-phone rule in the cited material for dismissal propagation. Treat each alarm as independent unless the exact app’s documentation says otherwise.

Practical decision guide

  • You have a Pixel phone and Pixel Watch: Use the documented Alarm sync setting, select adaptive ringing or both-device ringing, and verify the disconnected behavior with a test.
  • You have a Samsung phone and watch: Expect phone alarms to sound on both only under the documented Bluetooth-connected condition, and keep in mind that the watch Alarm app has its own alarms.
  • You have two Android phones or two iPhones: Do not assume the built-in Clock alarm list is shared. Create and maintain a separate alarm on each phone.
  • You depend on an unverified third-party shared-alarm service: Confirm support for your operating systems, offline edits, delayed synchronization, conflict handling and dismissal behavior before trusting it for a critical alarm.
  • The consequence of failure is high: Keep an independently set, powered-on backup device and test the complete setup after major software, device or connectivity changes.
