SentinelOne describes Deep Visibility as a way to search endpoint telemetry for indicators of compromise (IOCs) and investigate suspicious activity. In a typical hash hunt, an analyst searches for the file hash, checks which endpoints returned matches, and examines related activity before deciding whether incident response is warranted. The available search tools, telemetry, retention, and response actions depend on the deployment and should be confirmed with SentinelOne.

What SentinelOne’s endpoint IOC search does

SentinelOne says Deep Visibility is built into its agent and sends endpoint information to the management console, where security teams can search for known indicators and hunt for threats. An IOC search asks whether available endpoint data contains a clue associated with a known threat—for example, a file hash. A threat hunt starts with a question or hypothesis and looks for suspicious behavior, which may not yet be represented by a known indicator.

SentinelOne introduced Deep Visibility in a September 7, 2017 announcement describing real-time and historical searches, including searches involving endpoints that had been offline. That release is useful historical context, not confirmation of the current search window, licensing, or service level. Check the terms for your deployment rather than assuming a particular period of retrospective visibility. SentinelOne’s 2017 announcement

How to search endpoints for a file hash

SentinelOne’s published walkthrough demonstrates a hash-based search. The following describes that vendor-documented flow; console labels and entitlements can vary by version and subscription.

  1. Get the indicator. Copy the hash for the file you want to investigate, such as a hash from an alert or threat-intelligence report.
  2. Open the relevant event and search view. SentinelOne’s example starts in Forensics, where the analyst copies the file hash, then moves to Visibility.
  3. Select the matching hash field and algorithm. Use the field that corresponds to the hash type you have; searching the wrong field or algorithm may not return the intended matches.
  4. Run the query and review the endpoint results. Identify which endpoints have matching evidence, then inspect associated events and the correlated Storyline to understand surrounding process, file, thread, or other activity.

A match is an investigative lead, not by itself proof that an endpoint was compromised. Consider the event’s timing and surrounding behavior, and follow your organization’s incident-handling process before taking response action. SentinelOne’s Storyline threat-hunting walkthrough documents the hash-search and context-review example.

From an IOC lookup to a broader threat hunt

A single indicator lookup is often a simple filter: find events containing a particular hash. A broader hunt asks whether a pattern of behavior exists across the telemetry available to the organization. SentinelOne describes query assistance, searches using MITRE ATT&CK identifiers, and Watchlists for saved queries and notifications. These can help analysts repeat a hunt or look for behavior associated with a technique, but exact controls and access should be verified for the current console and subscription. SentinelOne’s feature spotlight

Use query assistance for exploration

SentinelOne describes its query language as a user-friendly SQL subset, with interface completion and a command palette. Query assistance can help an analyst construct searches, but the result still depends on selecting relevant fields and having the necessary telemetry available. A MITRE ATT&CK identifier search is a way to explore behavior associated with a technique; it does not establish that the technique occurred simply because it was searched.

  • EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.

Use PowerQuery for analysis and summaries

For analysis beyond a direct indicator filter, SentinelOne describes PowerQuery operations including filtering, grouping, statistical summaries, joins, and unions. These operations can help summarize indicators or examine patterns such as endpoint network connections. They are useful when the question requires grouping or correlating records, rather than just finding whether one value appears. SentinelOne’s PowerQuery overview

Save recurring hunts with Watchlists

SentinelOne’s published materials describe Watchlists as a way to save recurring queries and notify recipients when results appear. This can support repeat monitoring of an indicator or behavior, subject to the features and notification configuration available in your deployment. Confirm whether the required schedules, recipients, and query types are supported before designing an operational process around them.

How to evaluate a hit and decide what to do next

Use the search result to build an evidence-based picture of scope and activity rather than treating a matching IOC as an automatic remediation trigger. Review the correlated events and timeline, identify affected endpoints, and assess whether the surrounding behavior fits the investigation. If the evidence warrants containment or remediation, use the response actions and approval process configured by your organization. SentinelOne’s 2017 release described integration with response capabilities; its current product messaging describes policy-based automated response and rollback. Neither means that every search result should trigger an automatic action. 2017 announcement · Current Singularity Endpoint page

What to verify before relying on the workflow

Product pages explain SentinelOne’s stated capabilities, but they do not settle whether a particular organization’s configuration includes them or retains the data needed for a hunt. Confirm the following with the vendor for your specific environment:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Which endpoints, operating systems, and deployment environments are supported and reporting the telemetry your queries need.
  • How far back endpoint data is searchable, how retention is configured, and what happens to data from devices that were offline.
  • Whether Deep Visibility, query assistance, ATT&CK searches, Watchlists, and PowerQuery operations are included in your edition or subscription.
  • Which response actions are available, what approvals or policies govern them, and whether rollback applies to your use case.
  • Whether the deployment’s SaaS, on-premises, hybrid, or air-gapped design supports the required data sources and integrations.

SentinelOne’s current product page positions endpoint investigation alongside Storyline correlation, Purple AI, identity signals, and other integrations. It also lists multiple deployment environments. Treat these as vendor-stated platform capabilities, and verify availability, entitlements, environment support, and retention terms for the proposed deployment. The page mentions up to 365 days of EDR context retention; applicability and configuration should be checked for the relevant plan. Singularity Endpoint product page

How to compare endpoint hunting tools

When comparing SentinelOne with another endpoint or security analytics product, compare equivalent capabilities rather than product names or headline claims. SentinelOne’s FAQ says pricing varies with the number of deployed endpoint agents, but the sources do not provide a complete current price schedule or a neutral competitor comparison. Vendor claims are not universal performance guarantees

SentinelOne’s FAQ summarizes its 2024 MITRE ATT&CK Enterprise evaluation as 100% detection, zero detection delays, and 80 of 80 simulated attacks. Those figures describe the vendor’s account of that evaluation context; they do not guarantee the same results for every customer, configuration, or real-world threat. SentinelOne FAQ

SentinelOne also reported 10 billion events a day in a 2024 feature article. This is a vendor-reported platform-scale figure, not an independently verified benchmark of an individual customer’s telemetry or search performance. SentinelOne’s 2024 feature spotlight
