SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog “Infinite Blue” is a numbered porcelain sculpture, not a mug or piece of everyday pottery. Its flowing form is shaped by 224porcelain, then painted and finished by Ri-Sho Kiln, combining digital techniques with Hizen Yoshida ware tradition and hand-applied decoration. The overseas price announced by the maker is $7,000 before duties, tax, and shipping; the Japanese listing is ¥1,000,000 including tax and shipping.
What is Sonic “Infinite Blue”?
“Infinite Blue” is an Arita porcelain sculpture announced for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary. It depicts Sonic in a dynamic, extended pose and is intended as a collectible art object rather than functional pottery. SEGA lists its dimensions as 15.6 cm wide × 22.8 cm deep × 21.3 cm high. The package includes the sculpture, a certificate, a base, and a wooden box. SEGA’s Sonic Channel listing provides the Japanese product details.
How is the sculpture made?
The work is split between two studios: 224porcelain develops and forms the sculptural body, while Ri-Sho Kiln handles the painting and finish. The maker describes the collaboration as bringing Hizen Yoshida ware together with digital methods, including 3D printing. Its October 2, 2026 announcement also embeds a craft-process film.

The long, thin extensions that give the pose its motion also make the object challenging to fire. Porcelain can shrink and warp in the kiln, and variations in thickness can raise the risk of cracking or breakage. The maker says the studios repeatedly adjusted the design data and molds and conducted firing tests to balance the flowing silhouette with structural strength.

YOYOYO/MARUKYU reports about eight months of development and says a craftsperson can form one to two pieces per day. Those are maker-reported figures, not independently audited production statistics. The stated daily figure is forming capacity, not a guarantee that a finished, fired, painted sculpture can be completed at that rate.
2. Underglaze painting and finishing
Ri-Sho Kiln’s decoration begins with outlines drawn using a fine brush. The studio then builds up blue gosu pigment in layers, combining pigments to seek a bright Sonic blue while retaining the deep indigo character associated with gosu on Japanese porcelain. The maker describes the piece as expressing Sonic’s “fastest blue” through porcelain’s enduring gosu blue; that is a translation of its Japanese promotional wording, not an English-language quotation.

The release says the decoration incorporates shippo, seigaiha, and yagasuri patterns, along with a red overglaze line meant to represent Sonic’s movement. Those symbolic meanings are the maker’s explanation. The process film is embedded in the announcement, but the written product details alone do not establish every step or shot shown in the video.
Why does it cost $7,000?
The announced overseas price is USD 7,000, excluding duties, tax, and shipping. The Japanese price is ¥1,000,000 including tax and shipping, as listed by SEGA and the maker. These are region-specific prices with different included costs, so they should not be treated as directly equivalent checkout totals.

The price is attached to a hand-finished porcelain sculpture made in a numbered run, rather than mass-produced drinkware. The makers describe an extended development process to address firing risks in the thin, extended form, followed by layered brush decoration. These details explain the nature of the object and its production; they do not establish an independent valuation of the piece.
How many are being made, and where can it be bought?
The announced edition is 50 numbered pieces worldwide. Sales are scheduled to begin October 9, 2026. Five pieces are allocated for first-come, first-served sale at the “SONIC the Exhibition -ACROSS GENERATIONS-” event at Ikebukuro PARCO; the maker’s online store is to use a lottery.
