ReSkate is an unaffiliated fan project that says it can run skate. offline and provide community multiplayer, including Steam lobbies and dedicated servers. It is separate from EA’s official service, which is always online; Steam currently labels skate. Unsupported on Steam Deck. One Steam Deck OLED owner has reported running ReSkate with Proton Experimental, but that is an individual setup report—not a compatibility guarantee.

Official skate. and ReSkate are different experiences

EA describes skate. as a free-to-play, massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox set in San Vansterdam, with cross-progression and cross-platform play. EA says, “The game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving.” The official game has no offline mode. EA’s skate. FAQ says it entered Early Access on September 16, 2025; the Steam listing also identifies it as Early Access and says there is no fixed timeline for leaving that stage.

ReSkate is a community project, not an EA feature. Its README states: “ReSkate is a fan project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle. You need your own copy of skate. on Steam.” The project’s offline and multiplayer functions are therefore ReSkate features, not modes provided or endorsed by EA.

What ReSkate says you can do

ReSkate documents two ways to play:

  • Offline: The project says its offline mode does not use EA servers. Skater, outfit, unlock, and progress information is saved locally. Its README describes offline profiles—including skater, progress, and parks—under %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateprofilesoffline and lists --offline as a launcher option that can play without Steam running.
  • Online with the community: ReSkate documents Steam lobbies for up to 32 players, multiplayer activities, mods, and joining dedicated servers through an in-game browser. These are community-project services, not the official EA online service.

The README also estimates that a launcher-installed game copy takes about 14 GB. That is the project’s estimate and may change as the game changes.

What to expect on Steam Deck

Steam marks the official skate. listing Unsupported for Steam Deck. The listing says the official service requires a persistent internet connection, an EA Account, and a Steam Account. That status concerns the official game; it does not verify or rule out the separate ReSkate workaround.

A recent post from a Steam Deck OLED owner reports running ReSkate 1.0.3 in SteamOS Gaming Mode with Proton Experimental and Steam Input. The reported approach was to copy a Windows ReSkate installation to the Deck, add the launcher as a non-Steam game, select Proton Experimental, and use Steam Input. This is one person’s report, not an official SteamOS guide or independent compatibility test. No controlled testing establishes performance, battery life, stability, or whether the same setup works on a Steam Deck LCD model. Read the Steam Deck OLED report.

How the ReSkate launcher setup works

ReSkate’s README gives Windows-oriented launcher directions; the Deck method above is a user-reported adaptation, not a project-certified SteamOS procedure. The README says to download a release archive and extract ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll either beside Skate.exe in the Steam game folder or into an empty folder where the launcher can install the game.

  1. Download a ReSkate release archive and extract the launcher and DLL to one of the locations described above.
  2. Run the launcher. According to the project, it checks for ReSkate updates and verifies the game files against the currently supported Steam build.
  3. If required files are missing, the launcher may ask you to sign in to Steam and download them. The README currently names Steam build 25414733 as supported; this is a project-maintained version pin, not a permanent compatibility guarantee.
  4. For the reported Deck approach, add the launcher as a non-Steam game, choose Proton Experimental in its compatibility settings, and configure Steam Input as needed. These steps reflect the individual OLED user’s report; results may differ on another system.

Because ReSkate supports one game build at a time, an update to skate. can leave the installed game on a build the launcher does not currently support. Check the ReSkate README for its current supported build and setup notes before attempting installation.
